On the counter service restaurants, one adult can order for the whole family. In our case, we had 4 in our party including two kids. So the adult can just order four regular adult counter service menu items including the adult desserts and they don't ask if they are children or adults. They just fill it. So don't worry about the child's menus at the counter service restaurants.

Of course, once I ordered a child's meal for myself at Blizzard Beach because it was a hot day and I wasn't all that hungry so I got two little mini turkey and cheese sandwiches and chose grapes and carrot sticks for the side and it was just right for me on that day!

Hope this helps.

The KTTW card specifically states how many adults & children there are. There are CM's that won't allow the attempted bending of the DDP policy this way & will only let guests use DDP for the number of AD/CH stated on the card......

We saw this happen on several occasions during our last trip.

The CM may notice that there are 2 adults and 2 children and try and do it that way, but in thery there is nothing to stop you getting two meals, and then getting two more meals.

I'll offer tips that doesn't assume that a CM will let you circumvent the rules.

1) Order the kids meal for the drink, sides and dessert. You can order an adult CS entrée without ordering the combo. Most places don't list it on the menu but you can just order an adult burger.

2) In the resort food courts ask if you can get a kids portion of an adult entrée. Some of them will be able to accommodate you.

We were told at numerous CS restaurants (Cosmic Rays, Flame Tree, Pecos Bill) that we had to order 2 adult and 2 child meals as stated on the card.

My experience last December as well. I have stated this beofre , but will say it again. We found with three adult CS meals it was plenty for all of us with one added a la carte hotdog, pizza, or burger. DD just used the CS for breakfast at the resort where she enjoyed a Mickey waffle.
The idea of using the kids credit and ordering one a la carte entree item is also a good idea. Everyone is over 10 now so whe we returned in July I didn't have to deal with it, I am glad I don't have to deal with this anymore!

When I first read about the changes to the kids CS meals, I thought about going "around" the system by ordering adult meals. :guilty: However, I just read an article on allearsnet.com about the new healthier options, and it says at one point, "Recognizing that visits to Disney parks are vacations, parents will still be able to request more indulgent meals and snacks from a wide variety of food offerings." So I guess, the healthier options--like carrot sticks as a side--are listed on the menu, but if you want the fries, you just have to ask! You can be sure I will doing a lot of asking and (hopefully) substituting on our upcoming trip! I'll let you know how it goes.

While it is true that the enforcement isn't there, the rule is, so folks should obey it anyway.

Just for the record, I didn't set out to break the rules of the DDP. We used many CS for breakfast at our hotel food court. My DD, who is aged 9 looks much older and she got her own breakfast as did my DD, who is aged 8 and looks older than her age as well. They always automatically gave my DD8 a child's breakfast, although it was the exact same thing as the adults menu, just served in the Mickey Mouse plate and with the child's selection of drinks, but they always gave my DD9 the regular meal. No one ever asked about the distinction of the Adult or children credits there or any other CS we went to. When we ordered at a CS, we just ordered what we wanted (although I did tell you that I got a child's menu for myself once) and handed them the card and no one ever asked. It was my first time on the DDP and I wasn't concentrating on how to order. It just happend this way and I wanted to share with anyone who really was afraid their kids wouldn't eat the child's menu.

A couple of the places we ate CS did not let you sub the fruit/applesauce for fries. Flame Tree BBQ comes to mind. They flat out said "no fries for kids." Now I guess you can pay for them seperately or use a snack credit, but they would not give them to the kids with their meal. We used a snack credit for onion rings to split between my two kids.
