We will be arriving and staying at the paradise pier sunday nov 12 around 1-2 pm.
We dont want to go into the park that day so we can get a full day on monday.
Can anyone suggest what a family can do within walking distance or should I rent a car ?
Thanks

If the weather is as warm down there as it currently is in Northern California, you could just hang by the pool.
You could walk over to Downtown Disney. Kids would probably enjoy the Lego store and Build-a-Bear, not to mention the huge World of Disney Store (this 42-year-old kid does).
If you've never been, it's worth taking 20 minutes to pop into the Grand Californian hotel (accessible from DTD) just to admire the lobby.
Off property, there's not really much within walking distance -- it's all motels and restaurants surrounding the park.

How long will you be staying etc? Because depending on the hours that day you could get 6-8 solid hours in at the park......the parks at nightime are my favorite.

When we went last summer, this was our plan -- like you, we arrived around 1pm. Of course, once my daughter caught sight of the park, that was the end of that plan -- into Disneyland we went. It actually worked out well for us, as we had only been planning on spending one day at DL and the second at DCA, this gave us more time to do things and not feel so rushed.
If this ends up happening to you and, like us, have to add an extra day onto your parkhopper, be sure to do it over at the Disney Travel office in DTD -- much cheaper than doing it at the Disney ticket windows.

Just down the street, (Katella and Euclid) kinda a long walk, there is a arcade store called Nickel Nickel... It has an entarance free but every game is like 1-10 nickels. so its really cheap. Theres also a free games section.
they have a package... $6.95, this gives you enterance fee and 100 nickels. easily play over 4 hours.

I agree with the other poster that suggested walking around DTD, hanging out at the pool, and checking out the other DLR hotels. I am sure that could keep you busy for quite a while and you wouldn't feel like you were missing any of the Disney magic :wizard:
If you wanted to rent a car, you could check out Newport Beach or go to the Block at Orange for some shopping, or go to the Disney Warehouse for discounted stuff.

Chomperoni,
every trip I take I go the day before and dont do the parks...I take the opportunity to go to a character meal(usually dinner) at Goofys kitchen or go over to Joes Crab shack..something that I cant usually do...theres also Medieval Times and Pirates Dinner...both in Buena Park, within minutes of Disneyland...both themed restaurants with a show...also I go over to the character warehouse and see what they've got good to buy before I hit the parks and pay triple :rotfl: and as the other op stated go out to the pool...just being there and staying in a hotel makes the anticipation grow and you know your on vacation...plus it helps to get a good night sleep before you hit the parks the next day...Im so exhausted at the end of my trip and need a vacation lol

Is this true? We have 2 day hoppers that were purchased from a Safeway grocery store. We need to upgrade to 3 day... maybe even 4 days if I can talk my DH into it. How much cheaper are we talking here? lol
