Welcome from cabin 8086. We have just arrvied in Key West. It's been a little interesting this morning. 3 coast guard vessels including a missile cruiser took up positions around the Magic all the way into Keyt West. Approximately 44 miles out, 10 uniformed, armed coast guard members boarded the ship on the left side while moving. Not sure why.
Palo has also been closed all day. Some sort of power failure. Related issues?

Now if I were on the boat, I'd be freaking out that there was a terrorist on board or something. Do you have any theories? Keep us posted!! I will definitely check back later ! :surfweb:

All is/has been normal on the ship. Perhaps a surprise CG safely inspection?

The 10 members returned to their boat, again from the left side, 10 min after we docked. (on the right side)

Maybe a possible inspection. We just got off the Magic yesterday and the crew had several drills this past week. One was while we were at Palo brunch. All the alarms sounded for "abandon ship" and another type of drill. (They announced to the passengers to disregard prior to alarming). Then later in the week, they had a "power failure" drill. I noticed a set of lights across from us at Palo on Thursday blinking(fluttering). That was only one side of the room. So maybe they anticipated an inspection :confused3 .

Good thing the Coast Guard stationed a 'missile cruiser' off the Magic :thumbsup2

-- no telling when Goofy could have 'lost it' and starting throwing day old donuts at them!

They do a *LOT* of drills - one reason I always feel so safe cruising with Disney.

We were on the 9/23 Magic sailing and also had the Coast Guard board the ship. Didn't see any missle cruisers but there were 3 small boats with machine guns in front. Maybe they board all ships coming into Key West.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise!

the plot thickens......

The US Public Health Service was leaving the ship as we were returning to the ship an hr ago in Key West.

Interesting, since my 2.5 daughter has been throwing up all day, and has been quarantined to our room for 24hrs by the med staff.

As for the CG, they had 1 small boat with a machine gun on the front, a larger boat with a 50cal gun on the front, and then the Missile Cruiser.

How do I post pics?

There was a public health inspection the day we were in Key West too - we were unable to get room service because of it. Must be a convenient place to do it, since the ship is going to be in port for several hours and yet everyone not rushing around to load supplies.

My husband who was in the Coast Guard says that all cruise ships are boarded while arriving in a US port since 9/11. In addition, other vessels such as liquidfied natural gas tankers are rountinely escorted into port. Other cargo ships are boarded and searched but not escorted.

On our 9/9 cruise there were two small CG boats off the port and starboard bows. I did see uniformed coasties walking around deck 9 and 10.

As for the trip insurance reimbursement, YES you can get some compensation. Friends that cruised with us last year had a little one get quarantined for a day and they got back $200 - $300... can't remember the exact amount. You do need documentation.

And it's not just KW. The cruises sailing out of Tampa (not DCL obviously) also have a Coast Guard escort out of the port with mounted machine guns........always interesting to watch - along with the mentally challenged individuals on jet skis circling around them - since they sail by several residential areas before making their way into the Gulf of Mexico!

On to Grand Cayman in the morning.

Sailing in or out of Juneau, Alaska will also get you a coast guard escort.

sami90tsi, I am glad your daughter had a speedy recovery!

I was wondering if they have started putting out the new shampoo/conditioner, towels, bedding, ect yet?

Hope you had fun in Grand Cayman!

The Coast Guard is more concerned with the boat being used as a guided bomb than about the passangers. Remember, that beast has 250,000 gals. of fuel aboard. We're just along for the ride...

Yes, all the new stuff in now on board.

Unfortunately, both my wife and I have also now become ill. Last night after Palo, both of us were very sick. The rough seas did not help the issue either.

Today is a new day in Cozumel. Hopefully we will fell better.
