so i don't know how many of you are plotting on going to orlando for college or to work at disney, but i know i am. im not entering the college program, but im moving a whopping 2 hours away from home just to be there. heres a question, how many of you have mentioned to a guidance counselor or a teacher/sponsor/scholarship someone/college representative that for a career you would like to do something at disney? wether it be an imagineer, tour guide, character, technician, cook, etc. and how many of them have basically laughed in your face?

yes, i said "laughed in your face".

we're doing career research papers in english, and for mine i chose to research disney tour guides for myself and the paper. i only asked my teacher a simple question of "do all of my work cited cards have to be from both books and websites, or can i have them all from the internet?" and she looked at me and goes "oh, you're the one doing disney arent you?" at my blank "of course" stare, she grins and for a minute i thought i was going to hear "disney? i love disney!" or..something...but oh no. she laughed. "right, so what do you want to do in disney exactly? be a little character or something?" i could feel my face turning red and trying not to be rude i ended up half way "grinning" back with a small "actually no, im too short."

now, ive seen this problem before. people having this "fabricated" view of disney. you tell people "hey, im going to work at disney" and they automatically think "LoL!!!!11 you like, wanna be mickey mouse?!?11" people just dont get IT that disney isnt all just happiness and giggles. you can really build a good career inside of it. i would just rather not be made fun of for something i want to do. atleast i KNOW what i want to do, unlike half the people in my grade.

so, has anybody else had this problem? or something close to it?

Oh, I'm sorry.

I'm not planning on doing anything remotly related to disney, so no, I've not had anyone laugh at me over that. But I have had people laugh at me over what I do want to do.

I want to teach highschool studio art.

When people hear that I usually get a, "so...you wanna color?" or a "you couldn't pay me enough to come back here."

Well, no they won't be paying me enough. And yes, I will make them color. Coloring is fun. But beside from that I want to teach a class where REAL art is tapped instead of just a box of crayons and a plate of fruit.

I would love to get into the Disney College Program.

Tell those people to look up the Disney College Program (even if you aren't planning to do it) they'll realize how serious this job is. Disney has rules for everything under the sun. The way you dress is enough to cause you a panic attack every morning trying to get dressed.
And yes, it is a serious job to make people happy. That's what Disney is. If you were to wind up being a character, it's still a job, it's still serious. Disney World and the other parks were made so people could vacation and make memories. That is a job that is completely worth while.

Well, to answer your question your right. When I was back in middle school and told my teachers that I was going to work for the Walt Disney Company at Walt Disney World, most of them would laugh and tell me that there are so many other jobs that will pay better and be more rewarding. Fast foward 6 years and now I work at Walt Disney World as a full time cast member. I am going to college and working. I can't tell you how much I enjoy working for this company. I plan to finish off my degrees and stay with the Walt Disney Company for the rest of my life. Please don't let anybody tell you what to do, and don't let them turn you away from one of the worlds largest media companies. It will look amazing on your resume if you ever decide to go to another company. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about working or anything like that. Have a magical day!

I actually work at Space Mountain in the Magic Kingdom. I am the guy that sits in that tower all day and makes sure the ride works, and everything is operating smoothly. I am hoping to get moved up to a shift supervisor soon.

Please my mom's DREAM is for me to work at Disney. I personally wouldn't care if a teacher laughed or not, it's not their business. But I do want to enroll in the college program, I just don't know that they have anything for nursing majors (maybe work at a first aid station or something).

But yea, my mom has it all planned out, she's going to work in the first aid station (she's a nurse), my dad will do boiler work and other maintenance things, my sister will work at the Disney florist, my brother will do carpentry, and I'll do something...

Ugh, ignorant people, yes I have encountered many of those...but not for career purposes.

I had to do a career research paper during my sophomore year and I chose to research the career of a graphic artist as that is what I had planned to take up...a year later I changed my career ideas completely to be an English teacher...I know that isn't the topic here, but your point of doing a report like that reminded me, heh.

I plan on entering the College Program during college...but it would be during the summer because the college I plan to enter is 24 car hours away and 2 1/2 plane hours away.

I wouldn't care if a teacher laughed in my face...I know what WDW is and the varities of options there. Just think of yourself smarter in at least something over the teacher!! lol.

I am not in the Disey College Program, I am going to a full time college and working at Disney at the same time. Its tons of fun, and Disney is helping me pay for college. The reason I didn't go to the Disney College Program was becuase the school that I go to does not support the program, and I only like 15 minutes from Disney World. Plus I get to live in my own apartment, and don't have money taken out of my pay for housing and other activities.
