is TDS doing anything special on Black Friday?

Last year they gave away 102 dalmation beanies! Year before it was a beanie Pooh! Just wondering if they were going to do anything else. SO far It doesn't look like I will need to go out on Black Friday! Looking over all of the wonderful store list! But I would make a trek out for TDS if it was for something cute! and free!

This year it is a Pooh dressed as Santa.I dont believe it is a give away but from what I have read there will only be 70 available per store.

What in the world is Black Friday? I've never heard that term around here. I'm assuming that is the day after Thanksgiving, but don't know why it's called that. I even worked retail (and sis did) for many years!

You're kidding the saying black Friday has been around for ever! I think it was called this years ago that this was the day to put all businesses in the black. Meaning out of debt making a profit. I could be wrong about that! But it is suppose to kick of the big Christmas shopping season!

I never heard of it either. I thought it was an anniversary date of some stock market crash that I missed. Calling it Black Friday to say it will put businesses in the "black" makes better sense to me. I will be out doing my part!!!

I've heard it called this since I was a little girl - I live in Maryland, maybe it is a regional thing? I've never shopped on Black Friday because it is supposed to be so PACKED. This year, however, i'm doing it because my inlaws are vistiting & I need an excuse to get out of the house;)

I'm with GEM, in Arkansas we call it "the day after Thanksgiving"! Until last year, I always had to work, so I never really got in on it.

*chuckling* I myself am originally from the midwest...when I moved out to PA...for the life of me I couldnt figure out why people were so crazy about the mall on *the day after thanksgiving* THEN I learned of Black Friday. :) Its good to see there are others out there who hadnt heard of the term either . It also seems to be that us who grew up in the midwest are the ones who werent aware of the term. :p I guess its like how we call soda... pop

I'm from Reading, PA and have heard the phrase ever since I was a little girl. Also have avoided the stores on that day also.

From the East too, Washington, DC, and "black friday" has always been a phrase we use too. We love it. We are out by 5:00 AM and home by noon. I use to avoid it, but found that it's not too bad, and exciting too! And we get great bargains. Always home by noon or earlier to eat leftovers!! It's a tradition in our family. Can't wait!!

Never heard of Black Friday. I am from Mass and live in RI so it does not appear to be a New England thing, since no one I know has ever heard of it either.

I live in PA and grew up in NJ and have always known the Friday after Thanksgiving to be Black Friday. Although I never knew why until recently!

I'm from NJ and have always heard that day called "Black Friday". I try to avoid shopping that day. The roads in Central NJ get sooo jammed that its hard to navigate any where near the major shopping centers. Our new Walmart opened on Rt 9 south, just across the hwy from KMart, so everyone is going to Walmart instead of KMart. Kmart is honoring all competitor adds. Should make this Friday very interesting.

Glad I'm not the only one who's never heard it called that and I've worked retail for many years. I HATED working the day after Thanksgiving. We call it "After Thanksgiving sale" around here ;) It sounded kind of morbid to me :eek: Do the ads call it that? Ours refer to the "after Thanksgiving" sale...

Oh, yes, you're right, we call it pop in the Midwest, not soda ;) It's a cart, not a basket around here too ;)

Ah yes, I'm from NJ and Black Friday is the BEST shopping day! Sales, sales everywhere. The key is to go EARLY! If the store opens at 6 - be there at 6. By 10 a.m. the stores, the roads, the entire retail world is a zoo. I'm done shopping and home in time for a nice brunch with the rest of the visiting family.

Born, Raised, and still living in Delaware 38 years later and it has always been Black Friday since I was a little girl! Yes, get those retailers out of the "red" and into the "black" by all means! Don't expect to get to much done with the mobs, but enjoy the holiday spirit that prevails and if it doesn't ~share some of your own! BUT. . . save some of your money for Disney!! 17 days and counting!
