Good Morning everyone ...I'm in a bit of a crisis...I already paid for my atkt from Venice to PAris for Dec. 26th - 31swt...and booked Newport Hotel...Now my sister in law...my mother in law...and other people are telling me that my 4 yrs old is too young to take to DLRP...and that I should wait a couple of years. Instead of being happy for us, and for the girls, they bursted my bubble. All of you are Disney experts....and your comments would be greatly appreciated. I am looking forwar to this trip and I am having a great time planning it ( by myself)..my husband thinks the girls are also young...(you see this trip is a gift from my parents..! So he does not pay at all :-))...
I believe that when the girls will be older, we can then plan a trip to Orlando, where there is so much to see.
Any comments ? Please !
Thanks,
Martina

No they are not to young! I think between 3 and 5 is the perfect age to go! If they still belive in Santa Clause they also think the characters are real! And to see the look on the face of your child when they meet their friend Mickey or Pooh is a once in a life time thing! YOU will never forget this! So enjoy your trip. And don't forget to write a trip report for us after your return! :thumbsup2

But you should be carefull with the Snow White and Pinocchio ride. This could scare even 6 year olds!

Hi
No, 4 is definately not too young.
I personally don't think there is such thing a thing as being too young for DLRP(or too old come to that :rotfl: )

My DS was only 7 months old and DD 3 years when we first went and they both thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Seeing the wonder on their faces was worth every penny :cheer2:

Have a brilliant time and enjoy your planning

I took my 2 the first time when they were that young and they had a great time. They were facinated by the whole place.
The only thing to bear in mind at theat time of year is that it is very cold, take hats and gloves and big coats.

Thank you all for such a quick response...you sure have made my day !! Sometimnes I wonder if it's just envy...and wished they could go ! Anyways...I am enjoying every moment planning this trip. And thaynks so mcuh for the weather information...I will invest in very good winter walking shoes for the whole familya, as well as hats and mittens !
Oh...should I take my stroller or just avoid the hassel of doing it and rent one there ? I have seen it's €6.50 ( I think) for one day. My 4 yrs old does not use it any more, but you never know.

Thanks again to all !!

Too young at 4 - No way.

At that age its all magical because its real to them. My DD was a month off being 4 when we took her in 2002 and just the look on her face when we spotted the castle was enoughto confirm we had not taken her too early.

Go for it,you will have a great time you will never forget. :santa: :santa:

PS: Christmas is extra special at DLPR and the NBH is a nice choice.

You will not be surprised to hear me say the same. Your 4 year old will love it. If you are unsure how they will react to a ride, go on it first, then talk them through it.
As Marcus said some find Snow White and Pinocchio scary yet will happily go on Phantom Manor... or many be my DD (see trip report) is strange :goodvibes

We held off going until my youngest's 5th brithday because I though he was too young, now I regret missing all those visits we could've had. My 3 year old niece went for the first time last year and loved it :goodvibes

If you have your own stroller that could safe you a lot of time. But it could be a lot of stress to bring your own stroller to DLRP!

We went to Disneyland when our DD was 15 months old (actually, it was a month ago). Probably, she will never remember this, but we'll never forget how she ran trying to hug Mickey...

Nobody is too young to go to Disneyland. That's the magic of Disney

I wanted to go while they still believed the charactors were real. I can't wait....tissues at the ready!

I was warned on here about the weather in december so they have now got some cute all in one pink ski suits! If they're cold after that there's no hope!!! :rotfl:

no 4 year old is not too young!theres Dumbo and the carousel, Small World etc also fun getting their piccies taken with the characters
i just got back, there were just hundreds and hundreds of young Spanish kids there! younger ones might tire a bit early.
glad you are going to the Newport, the buffet dinners and lunches are to die for!!
there is also an indoor pool
also book a character dinner or lunch or afternoon tea at the Plaza Gardens for the little one, both 4 year olds and everyone else will love it

We took our DD just before she turned 3 and again this month for her 4th birthday. She loves it (even though the first time she was very wary of the characters) and some of the rides (Snow White , Pinocchio , POTC). Even if they don't like things just the atmosphere in the place is magical and will amaze them and you'll have great memories of it forever. :goodvibes . Don't let anyone put you off at all.

No way is 4 too young! You will have a ball! Look at my trip report for the evidence!
Go to the Trip Report Index; and under September 2006 you'll find the 'How many princess dresses can we buy in one trip? Trip'. Lots of photo evidence!!!

whilst I have never taken my son to DLRP his first trip to WDW was aged just 1 yr.

He loved that trip.. and he definitely got something out of it.

It is true to say that he has got more out of it on each trip.. but he is now 6 and much of the "magic" is gone.. as he said he can see a zip in pooh bears back (surely its just his clothes zip!) -
anyway.. no, 4 imho is a perfect age.. but they will get more out of it later too.. but differnt stuff!

Hi Higgy 66 and the rest of you who have made illusion come back again ! The ski suit is a very good idea..I had never thought of it. I have to see about what kind of shoes are the best...which will be comfortable and keep their feet dry !
Thanks for the input !

The strollers at DLP aren't particularly wonderful - big and heavy!! Having said that, they will be fine if your 4 year old should need one just for a sit down on the move, so I wouldn't bother bringing your own. Also, if the weather is very cold, I think that children keep a bit warmer if they are walking around and moving, rather than sitting still in a pushchair!!

As everyone else has said, both your daughters will have a fabulous time - and so will you!! :goodvibes Trust us, we know!!! ::yes::

If they still belive in Santa Clause they also think the characters are real! :thumbsup2

Sorry Marcus are you suggesting in someway that the characters and Santa are not real?

I have met Mickey, Minnie and Co and can confirm that they are very real and have photos and autographs and video to prove it. And the suggestion that Santa isn't real, well I know who will be getting coal in their stocking on christmas morning - naughty boy!

Four years old is a perfect age, as is forty and one hundred and four!

Okay your four year old may not remember their visit in ten years time but they will have the best Christmas ever at the most magical happiest place on earth.

No problems.

Enjoy your trip and and very merry christmas to all.

Of course Santa is real! But here in Germany he is visiting every family on the eve of the 24th December! And then he is moving to the UK to visit the chimneys at night! But we see him in person every year! :Pinkbounc

We took my DD when she was 4 years old and she loved it.

Other than the big roller coasters she was able to go on all the rides, including Big Thunder Mountain which she loved. Like other have said though she also did not like Snow White and Pinnochio, she found these quite scary, but wanted to go on Phantom Manor again and again and again.

My DD managed without a stroller, the park is not that large and is easily walked round. The only time it would have been useful was on the walk back to the Newport Bay Hotel on the 1st evening. The 2nd evening when she was tired we just caught the bus back to save her little legs.

I am sure that you will have great time when you go.

Oh No..my eldest who was 4 at the weekend asked me this morning "are the characters at Disney really people?"

I happened to be in the bathroom at the time and I nearly fell of the loo :rotfl:

When I asked her why she thought this she explained "because they don't talk?" (We went to meet Noddy this summer so he's the only character she's met)

How do I get round this.....next she'll be asking about Santa! We're already bribing her that Santa's elves are watching her everytime she behaves like a baby and they'll tell Santa she needs baby toys - works every time :rotfl2:

When did 4 years olds become so suspicious??? :confused3

We took our dd for her 4th birthday to DLP and she loved it. Her wee bro was 14 months and he was really into poking at the characters etc. Whereas this time he was a bit shocked by it all. He enjoyed the rides and slept 2 and a half hours one day.

What do you mean, of course the characters are real! I always tell my DDs that if they stop believing in Father Christmas they won't get any pressies on Christmas Day!

BTW, my eldest is nearly 15 :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hi (again ;-) ) Martinacris! Too young? Too young for what? Sure is too youg to ride Space Mountain but Disneyland offers things for all ages!

Toddles, kids, teenagers, fathers & granfathers... everyones enjoy Dlrp on his way.

You know, a lot of people told me the same last year: "It's too young. She will catch anything". Well, one thing is sure, their childrend catch anything too: They haven't been at Disneyland (I'm afraid they won't catch for a long time :rotfl: ) As we said in spain about envy: "la envidia, que es muy mala!"

My daugther was 2 1/2 last Xmas, and do you really think she looks too young to enjoy the trip?
