I realized I still had the camera set at 1600 when I was downloading the photos and finally figured out why so many photos were over exposed.
The clean look is thanks to post processing several of those shots (anything with the exif stripped off) with Noiseware Community Edition.
The lens is a second hand Sigma 55-200m 5.6f lens.

Posted them in an other thread, really I did not have much luck shooting today since I was too busy DRINKING but I will post more in the AM.

Your pics are great!!! I was considering a Rebel but needed a camera that would fit in my inside jacket pocket. I ended up with a Canon S3 IS. Not a Rebel, but a great camera in it's own right.
