So excited, I bought a new carry on bag for all of my trips coming up. It's the Overland Donner Bag in the red color
http://img.shopping.com/cctool/PrdImg/images/pr/177X150/00/01/83/23/10/25371408.JPG

I have a trip to Salt Lake this weekend and I think it's perfect for the plane :)

Tuesday, 5/22

B: Bowl of Smart start w/ soymilk
L: Quiznos small chicken, swiss and honey mustard sandwich and a bag of baked lays
D: Salad w/ creamy vinagrette and chicken, apples, walnuts and goat cheese. I forgot to get the dressing on the side, so there was too much. But the rest was pretty good.
S: 2 sets of 5 () raspberry newtons (one at 3ish and 1 after dinner) and a glass of skim milk

Movement: 22 minute walk w/ the dog and a very gentle 3 miles in 53 minutes (around a 17:40 mpm).

Have a great day everyone!

I love it too :) I can't wait to try it out this weekend.

Let's just say my caloric intake on Wednesday was quite a bit higher than I would have liked. And I made some interestingly dumb choices.
Wednesday, 5/23
B: (I woke up super, super early, so two breakfasts )Smart Start w/ soymilk and a small bagel w/ cheddar melted on it
L: Burrito and soft taco from Taco Bell
D: Mac and cheese from a box
S: 6 raspberry newtons (3 at 3 and 3 after dinner) and a glass of skim milk

Movement: 23 minute walk w/ the dog and a very, very gentle 2.75 mile walk w/my student. (about 1:15)

Today will be a better day!

AHHHHH, I have SO much to do before my 6 am  flight in the morning! I'm trying to get all my sub plans done for tuesday, and I'm so unispired. I don't even know what I'm doing today :lmao: Plus laundry, packing, oil change and hopefully I can squeeze in a walk. Why do I put stuff off until the last minute? When will I learn? :rotfl:

Thursday, 5/24
B: BIG bowl of Smart Start w/ soy milk
L: Lean cuisine chicken panini and something else...I can't remember what though...Oh right, a spoonful of peanut butter :lmao:
D: Barilla+ pasta w/ chicken, broccoli and I used a bit of garlic herb goat cheese as the sauce. It was super tasty :)
S: 4 raspberry newtons and a glass of skim milk, hot chocolate made w/ skim milk and some marshmallows

movement: 23 minute walk w/ the dog and a 38 minute swim. I think I need to stop "swimming" for a while. I can get in a do some arm stuff, but the actual freestlye swimming is taking a toll on my back (too much twisting :( ). I'm sad about that, but I have other stuff to do, so it's ok.

I'll be gone until late Tuesday night, so I won't be able to check in. It's a trip for my other "job," and it should be fun b/c I really like this particular aspect (I'm a coach, and this is the selection try-out to choose the 30 best kids in the country) and I love the people I work with. Still it's loooonnnnggg days (7 am to 9 pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday), so I'm coming back on Tuesday exhausted.

Have a great Memorial day everyone! I'll see ya on the flip side :)

Hello bekki!

Hope you are enjoying your trip! We are going on a short weekender to Mackinaw City, it's at the tip of the Mitten on the Michigan Map. It is where the movie "somewhere in time' with Jany Seymore and Christopher Reeves was filmed at. We try to go at the end of the school year every year. Brings in the calm after a hectic school year.

Enjoy!

Wow guys, thanks for keeping me bumped to the top so I wasn't lost in the Dis-universe :lmao:

I was actually on two seperate trips, and each was good in their own way. Memorial day weekend was work related, and I came back EXHAUSTED! Cutting 210 kids down to 30 was not easy. And in a couple weeks we have to cut to 14.

I came home late, late tuesday night last week and basically took the whole week off :) My eating was ok, but the only excercise I did was walking the dog, and I don't think I even did that on Wednesday!

We left again Friday afternoon to go watch my cousin pole vault at the CA state meet. It was awesome--she broke the national outdoor record! She already had the indoor, but this was sort of her last chance to get the outdoor.

Here's the record breaking jump on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlcQWnck8hc

Sunday, we spent the day w/ my mom in Napa. Let's just say I took the day off of my eating plan :lmao: I think that's putting it mildly.

I had grand plans of getting back to my walking routine yesterday and today, but it's raining like mad here! So annoying. I've got to get some walking in this week, as my first 5K is this Sunday. I'm hoping if I can walk Wednesday and Friday, I should be ok. I'm thinking I might need to try the recumbant bike tonight, just to do something. I've already decided I can't do the June exercise challenge--I'm just too busy!

anyway, thanks for checking in. I'll get to journals as soon as I can!

Alright, jumping back on this journaling saddle :)

Tuesday, 6/5--a totally crazy busy day. I was running all over the place!
B: NF Green tea latte and a peice of reduced fat coffee cake
L: Lean cuisine pannini, 10 cherries and 3 oreos
D: ground turkey burritos (meat, beans, a touch of cheese and sour cream and tomatoes and onions on healthy heart tortilla)
S: 3 oreos

exercise: 23 minute walk w/ the dog and 30 minutes on the recumbant bike (7.2 miles)

Wow, have I been a bad, bad record keeper and a terrible Wish buddy. Thanls Wendy and Tracy for keeping me off page 2!

I have both good and bad news...bad news first

I cannot control my eating the last 2 weeks. I haven't pigged out or binged, but I do let myself have little cheats all over the place (like a soda at lunch, or a few french fries with dinner) and it's those little stupid cheats that keep my weight up. I've got to get things under control.

Good news: I did my first 5K over the weekend and had a personal best of 44:26 (a 14:17 minute mile ave.) It was so much fun, and crossing the finishline was about the coolest thing ever. My next goal is to get the same pace (or around it at least) for a 10K in September. I really feel like all of my "training" has worked and I really feel encouraged to keep it up. Well, maybe not today, my legs are a bit sore :)

Anywho, off to check in on all of you girls. Thanks for all of the support!

B: big bowl of Smart Start w/ raisins and soymilk
L: A cherry tomato, bell pepper and mozzerella salad w/ basil balsamic vinagrette (I love leftovers when I've gone all out for company--we had guests on Sunday night :lmao:) and a slice of sourdough w/marg.
D: A grilled chicken sandwich on foccacia w/ caesar dressing and a little parmsean, some potato chips
S: a couple tbls. of garlic hummus w/ a big handful of the wheat thin chips (baked), 2 small scoops of hagen daz light cookie dough ice cream

My afternoon student canceled on me yesterday so I got to veg on the couch for a while! It was so nice. Then we finally went to see Pirates. DH was not a fan, but I liked it.

Tuesday, 6/12
B: Bowl of smart start w/soymilk
L: Lean cuisine butternut squash ravioli, handful of wheat thin chips and 1 heaping tablespoon of hummus
D: grilled chicken w/ tomato salsa and a little cheese on a roll
S: 2 small scoops of hagan daaz light cookie dough, about 10 chocolate chips

exercise: Pup got a 22 minute walk (1.1 miles) and I went on a 1 hour and 1 minute walk. I think I went about 3.85 miles. I just wanted to walk for a full hour at a moderate pace. It felt good!

Yeah Bekki!

Great job on the 5K. DD did a 3K and they didn't tell us what place she was, but out of 350 girls, she still had over 150 left to come in after her. She isn't a runner, but it is a program called Girls on the Run, that has to more with self esteem and such than becoming a runner. It was her second year doing this, and she did great. She is a star.

Oops, didn't mean to chat about my special star, but really wanted to help put a polish to yours! :sunny: :cheer2:

L: Taco bell :( Oops
D: grilled chicken w/tomato salsa and pesto on roll, and a few french fries

I really just need to get this out and it's going to be disjointed and somewhat sad and I'm not really seeking sympathy (though I'll take what you all give) but I'm finding it hard to talk to my husband a)because I know what he will say and b) I don't want to hear it...Just a warning.

I basically am having a breakdown and I am not sure I can pinpoint what is making me so upset and I can't even blame this on PMS, bit it's been a rough afternoon.

I found out yesterday that something I wanted to do very badly will probably not happen. I wanted to travel with my team, the team I've worked with for 3 years, to their final tournament in Australia next week. But I can't because of my stupid back and my lack of $10,000 to buy a biz class seat and United's stupid policy of not giving people biz class seats even where there are 20 available and I have 110,000 miles to give them in return. So I can't go. And I'm sad.

But I don't think that's what caused me to almost lose it on my walk, or burst into tears in the shower or cry now as I write this. I wish I could be better to myself. I wish I could stop eating stuff that is not good for me. I honestly think if there was a way to get rid of my tastebuds, I would do it, because I don't know how to get myself to stop.

I worry that I will never have children because I told my DH that I wanted to be a certain weight before we tried--so I would be healthy, and don't believe I will ever make it there. I don't think I am strong enough or have enough will power to do what it takes to get healthy. And I think I might hate that part of myself, the part that puts a handful of chocolate chips or a milkshake above my desire for a baby.

I have done this work before and I do not remember it being this hard. What was so different 6 years ago when I could lose almost 70 pounds in 9 months and not even think twice about it. It's taken me 6 months to lose 20, and it has been a struggle every single day.

I feel utterly hopeless right now. I am so sorry to dump all of this out, but like I said, I think I needed to and I have no one else to talk to.

 Bekki,

I understand what you are going through.... I think I could have written that post myself. This journey we are on can be so very difficult at times. One day, we are working out and feeling great and the next day, we feel like the weight will never come off. It has certainly been a struggle for me... I've been WISHing since 2004 and I am only a few pounds lighter now than I was back then. :(

I think the key is to take each day as it comes. Everyday has different challenges and different situations that we must deal with. I think if we can focus on doing the best we can each day and just focus on that particular day, then we will feel better about our journeys.

Sweetie, anytime that you need us, we are here for you. :grouphug: Please take some time to do something special for you today.

Oh Bekki...I can certainly empathize with the 'why do I sabotage my self'. I know that the older we get the harder changes are. Even tho the chance to go with your team is very disappointing, I think you found the real reason for the tears. And to acknowledge that must have been very hard in itself. When we look inside ourself, we don't always like what we see, yet, the insight is always more than worth the realization of what we need to really do. Gee, sounds like I am babbling, yet I know you will understand. I send hugs    to you. And to voice your fears, sometimes can make them more managable. And more conquerable. I find myself very disappointed in myself when in 6 months I lost 40 pounds with what seemed like no effort, yet in the last 9 months, I have only lost 6. Very hard. I talk to myself, give myself pep talks, and it seems that nothing changes. Being on the DIS has given me the emotional support to handle the disappointment, yet it is still there. Lord I want to be where I need to be, not where I am. I am here to listen, and to share. We will help each other. We will make it. The road may be bumpy, but the road is there for us to use. I have had to make some goal changes, and it could be time for that in your travels. If you are ready emotionally for children, you should focus on that and know that with pregnacy comes a strong will and reserve to be healthy. I just want to send out good thoughts and great wisdoms. I hope I have at least succeeded with the good thoughts. And pixie dust. It is always there for us.

Take care of yourself, and know that we all care. :grouphug:
We all know you are going to meet your goals.

Sending the very best to you

Wendy

HUGS, Bek!!

I totally understand where you are now. If you feel you are ready for kids, the Dr. says 'ok', don't let your weight decide. I know several people who actually LOST weight while eating healthy during pregnancy (NO, I was not one of them!)

Losing weight is not as easy as it was when you were younger & it's VERY frustrating. Hard to accept for me that it's a journey that will last the rest of my life, but it's a good journey to be on.

Hang in there!

Thanks you guys, I needed to get that out, and it's so nice to have people who understand...and have been there themselves.

My crazy breakdown lasted about 36 hours before I could really get a handle on myself and not feel like crying every 20 minutes.

Still, I'm feeling the effects. I can't sleep through the night, I woke up around 4:15 am yesterday, and about 3:50 this morning and just can't get back to sleep. Plus my student is really pushing my buttons, mostly because I think he's sick of me and sick of school--like very 7th grader would be the last week of June. But it's really hard to not lose my cool when there's so much other stuff going on and he's being a pill on top of it. I had to watch a movie with him (related to the material, but still) because 4 hours was going to kill me.

Eating has been much better since I last posted. I picked up the Best Life Diet book in the library, and although a lot of what he says I know, it's good to hear it again.

We're going away again this weekend for a wedding, which should be fun. But next week, I will be much better about food journaling and such :)

Ha ha, I was just kidding about the being on top of journaling this week. I have fantastic news--I must have an angel on my shoulder or something, because my biz class seats to Sydney came through yesterday! But let me start at the begining...

Last Friday, we had just a terrible time getting from Seattle to LA for a friend's wedding on Saturday. Flight was supposed to leave at 2:40 on Fri. We finally took off (going to a different airport!) at 6 am on Saturday morning. We made it to the wedding with about 10 minutes to spare. I kept thinking that maybe the World or karma was checking to see how I dealt with airline craziness to see if I really deserved the seats. I guess it was!

Anywho, it's also the last week w/ my student and it's a tough one trying to get everything done with a kid who doesn't want to do it, plus making last minute arrangements to be gone for 12 days.

The BEST part? I have been doing a kick butt job w/ my eating. Really healthy meals (like veggie and hummus sandwich on super healthy bread) and only good snacks (like 100 cal pack of low fat popcorn etc).

I had a good 3 mile walk yesterday and I'll do another tomorrow.

I feel so much better about everything. Thank you all so so so much for being there for me. You all pulled me out of a dark place and I'm so much better for it :group hug:

I'm back! I've been back for two days, but all I want to do is sleep :lmao:

The trip was good. The kids were great, they played so well and were such a joy to be around. I am SO glad I had this last opportunity with them. That was the part I was the most sad about, not having one last chance to coach them before they all age up to the next group. And we beat the Candians and the Australians (although our game against the Aussie A team went to OT!).

They were a little disappointed that they couldn't find 32 Wallaby Lane (from Finding Nemo)

We spent the whole time in Sydney. I have to be honest, Sydney is not a place that is worth flying 1/2 way around the world for. Is there cool stuff? Of course. Will I go back? For water polo, I'm sure. But the city itself could be anywhere in the States. It was SO similar to San Francisco, it was uncany. I think I maybe expected something a little more exotic. I think that people who like to hang out on beaches and surf and snorkle would have a really nice time. I'm not one of those people :) Plus it was winter. We really lucked out on the weather, it was in the mid-low 60's everyday and very little rain. But still not warm enough for beach time.

Still, even with those minor complaints, I am so glad to have had the chance to go. I feel unbelievably lucky.

Up for pictures?

Now it has a couple of pools, including a wave pool and lots of fun stuff for the kids. We happened to be there over the winter break for most schools, so it was packed!

That so funny about the water question. I watched many times, but honestly, I couldn't remember which way it went at home, so I had nothing to compare it to! But I'm pretty sure it does :)

On to the whole purpose of this thing, which is to journal my food and exercise :)

Monday, 7/16
B: 3 (about 3-4 inch) 10 grain blueberry pancakes (made w/ egg beaters and soy milk) and a few tablespoons of lite maple syrup and a glass of OJ

L: Sandwich w/ 2 slices of oat bran bread, 2 tablespoons of garlic hummus, sliced tomato and reduced fat swiss cheese. Also a cherry low fat yogurt

D: A grilled chicken sandwich w/ a slice of swiss, bruchetta sauce and pesto, along with about 7 garlic fries

S: 1.5 tbls of hummus and a handful or pita chips, a handful of whole wheat biscuit cereal (the kashi version of mini-wheats, but no frosting) and a WW ice cream bar (which was very good!)

Exercise: Only a 25 minute walk w/ the dog

I've noticed again, that the 4-6 pm hours are my witching hour for snacking! I think it's a combo of being bored and maybe not eating enough at lunch. Just something to keep my eye on :)

Thank you, thank you :) I am feeling SO lazy since coming home. I can barely be bothered to get dressed (out of sweats I mean), let alone take the dog for a walk or anything like that. I'm also sleeping much more than usual (sleeping in until 9 am, I'm much more of 6 am riser, usually). I don't feel sick, but I wonder if maybe something is about to knock me on my you know what!

Wed. July 18
B: Kashi Autum Wheat w/ blueberries and soy milk
L: PF Changs w/ a friend, potstickers, crab wontons, stir fried beef and noodles w/chicken. We were good and left a lot :)
D: Barilla + pasta, w/ jarred Trader Joe's marinara and ground turkey, a little parmesan, a WW ice cream bar
S: A handful of pita chips

Exercise: I finally blew up my yoga ball so I can restart my daily ab work, so I did that...but not much else :lmao:

I'm about to go on a walk, hopefully before it starts raining again. :)

July 19, '07 (I just noticed I never write the date the same way. I wonder why that is...maybe I'm just weird :lmao: )

B: Bowl of Kashi Autumn (I noticed I was spelling ths wrong too!) Wheat w/ blueberries and soy milk

L: Weird lunch, spread out over a couple of hours..Big handful of pita chips w/ 2 tbls. hummus, slice of oat bran bread w/ pb and a cherry yogurt...come dinner time, I was hungry!

D: Chicken burrito w/ grilled peppers and onions, black beans and guac

S: Handful of chocolate chips

Exercise: 2.8 mile walk in 44 minutes. I did intervals of 2 minutes fast, 3 minutes slow (plus about 10 minutes warm up/cool down), 1 mile walk w/ the dog (23 minutes) and we walked to dinner which is a little over a mile round trip (and up a hill :) ), plus ab work on the yoga ball

DH is going to a concert that I opted out of tonight, so I'm trying to work up the courage to go see a movie by myself! I used to eat at restaurants by myself, so I figure this has to be less awkward than that, right?

My motivation has left the building :lmao: I was all geared up for a long walk this weekend, I was hoping for about 5 miles. Well, this little thing called Harry Potter landed on my doorstep Saturday morning, and then it started raining...and it all fell apart from there :) I did walk the dog both Saturday and Sunday, and we walked to lunch yesterday so I did about 3.5 miles over the weekend

Not good enough, but it'll do. I'm still feeling just weird, lethargic. I'm hoping that goes away soon.

Food wise the weekend was ok. I made some good choices (like turkey on whole grain w/ mustard and no mayo etc) and some not so good choices (like a blondie at the movies on Saturday night) But overall, things were OK.

I really need to get moving, and not sit around quite so much. The weather is NOT cooperating. I feel like I'm in FL or Hawaii, it's so muggy here. I'm not used to it. But I also need to get over it. Stop making excuses!

Have a great day!

I loved HP, it was a very fitting end to the series. Over the weekend, I say Harry Potter 5 on my own, and then Transformers w/ DH and friends. I liked both--transformers had really cheezy dialogue, but it was really pretty :lmao:

Monday, July 23

B: Bowl of Smart Start healthy heart cinamon raisin w/ low fat milk

L: Bowl of broc. cheddar soup and salad w/ lemon dressing and a small piece of whole grain bread

D: A heaping scoop of mashed potatoes (made w/ low fat milk and marg.) and a pork chop (done in a pan w/ a little evoo) and a cherry sauce.

S: A piece of oat bran toast w/marg and little honey, a hanful of chocolate chips

Exercise: 1 mile walk w/ the dog. A 3 hour nap in the afternoon conflicted with my plans for a second walk. I'll get to that today

Thanks for checking in!

I have gone to movies alone, and I think it is easier than eating alone. And, it is way better for us too.

We saw HP movie, and altho this one skipped alot from the book, still a pretty good movie.

Tuesday, July 24

B: Bowl of Smart Start raisin w/ low fat milk, 2 pieces of oat bran toast w/ marg and honey (I hate it when I wake up so early--I have this need to eat more!)

L: Teriyaki chicken bowl, about 1/5 c. rice, 3-4 oz chicken and 1/2 cup of veggies (broc, cabbage etc) and just a smidge of sauce

D: cheese and veggie (peppers and onion) quesadilla w/ 2 tbls. each of sour cream and guacamole, a weight watchers cookies and cream bar

S: a few pita chips and 2 handfuls of chocolate chips

Exercise: 1 mile walk with the dog, and 4.75 mile walk on my own in 1 hour and 16 minutes (exactly a 16 minute/mile pace)

I was so tired yesterday, I took a nap and went to bed early. Of course that meant I was up at the crack of dawn today lmao: Oh well!

Hey Bekki!!! You've been walking up a storm (no wonder it's been raining for ya  ). Yes, I know. I'm corny.

Seriously, GREAT job with the walking. That's such a fast pace. I don't run much faster than that. :rotfl:

But about your tiredness, are you usually a napper, or is it just lately that you've been that tired? If it's just lately, you might want to talk to your doctor. Maybe you're lacking some vitamins or something. I know when I was anemic I was sooooo tired all of the time. It was the only time in my life that I could take naps. Now there are days I wish I could take a nap, but my body won't calm down enough. :sad2:

Enough about me....keep up the GREAT work!! :woohoo:

Thanks girls! I love my cheerleaders :)

Kim: RE sleepiness, I've always been a napper, but not much of a nighttime sleeper--I tend to wake up really early and not be able to fall back asleep. I DO need to start taking vitamins again, though. Thanks to you, I took my one-a-day this morning, so thank you!

Wed, July 25

I'm almost embarassed to type out what I ate today, but I figure, you have to take the good w/ the bad, right?

B: Bowl of Smart start w/ soy milk

L: Cheeseburger and 1/2 order of fries (wait it gets worse...)

D: Taco Bell burrito and soft taco

S: A whole cinnamon bagel, toasted w/marg and a 100 cal pack of cookies

I think I ate enough for like 4 people! I ate that bagel at like 6 PM, and honestly, I should have just had a yogurt or something and called it dinner, but I could not resist the Taco Bell....and there's more

NO EXERCISE all day long (well, ab work, but that barely counts). I didn't even give the poor dog a walk.

I would consider July 25 a complete and total failure :lmao: But that's A-OK. I will do better today :cheer2:

Thursday, July 26

B: 2x 1/2 bowls of cereal. I ran out of Smart Start, so I had a 1/2 bowl..but then I was still hungry, so I had a 1/2 bowl of Autumn Wheat. I also had a glass of OJ

L: Lean cuisine chicken panini and 100 cal pack of cookies

D: Grilled steak burrito w/ a bit of guacamole and some cheese. Also about 10 chips w/ pineapple salsa.

S: Kashi waffle w/ 1 tbls of peanut butter

Exercise: Just took the dog for a 1 mile walk, plus ab work.

D: 1/2 order of cheese manacotti (took most of the cheese of the top), a slice of garlic bread and a salad w/ blue cheese dressing on the side (a few dips here and there)

Yes, boring is good. I'm catching up on Battlestar Galactica--season 2 just came from Netflix. I'm going out of town again in Thursday, and this is sort of a fun trip, back to California for a big tournament, but I'm just going to see friends and family, and watch games. No responsibility! I love it :)

Weekend wrap up: Eating was fine, although I had a hankering for hot dogs, so we bought some low fat ones. I can honestly say I've had more hot dogs in the last few days than I think I've eaten in the last few years. But they were pretty darn good. I figure between the low fat dogs, and the whole grain buns, they're not THAT bad for you :) I went on a good hike w/ DH. It's only 2.5 miles round trip, but it's straight up the way back from the beach. I was ok, didn't feel like I was going to die :lmao: But it was pretty warm, and that made it a little harder

Monday:
B: Bowl of Autumn wheat w/ soymilk

L: 2 hot dogs (see above ;) ) a handful of pita chips and a cherry yogurt

D: Barilla+ pasta w/ marinara (w/ ground turkey) and a sprinkle of parmesan. A big glass of milk. A slice of oat bran toast w/ marg.

S: A handful of pita chips, a root beer and a 100 cal pack of cookies

Exercise: I did intervals for 44 minutes (2 min on, 2 min off). I went just shy of 3 miles (I think 2.89 or something). I was happy b/c my fast intervals were fast the whole time (around 13:15 mpm). Usually, the last 2 cycles are really hard for me, but I think I was in a groove yesterday. I also took the pup for a 1 mile walk.

I'm SO excited, I'm getting my hair cut (haven't had that done since Dec!) and colored (not since May...of last year!) today. I hope they can help me figure out what I should do with it. Right now, I just feel like I have this sheet of blah brown hair. I'll let you guys know how it goes :)

Just bumping you up on the page!

Wendy

08-13-2007, 10:14 PM
Wendy, thanks for keeping me bumped. I had a pretty lame.rough week last week.

1) I visited "back home" and saw some really close friends that I miss very much. Meals were the only times I could hang out with them. Poor food choices abound

2) I came home exhausted. I tried to go on a walk in Tuesday and went 2 miles so slowly, I just had no energy. It was a prelude to...

3) Ugh, sickness. Sore throat, stuffy, can't sleep. Straight out of a NightQuil commercial :lmao: And all I wanted was cookies and french fries.

I finally felt well enough to go on another walk last night w/ DH. Maybe 1.5-2 miles, very leisurly. I was pretty excited to be feeling better, but then woke up again this moring just wiped out. Lame! I feel pretty good right now, but I'm nervous that I'll wake up in bad shape again.

If I don't, I will take a longer walk tomorrow to get back in the groove. I'm also going to check in with all you wonderful ladies and your journals. As DH says, I've got to keep this up or I'll lose all accountability.

Thanks for the well wishes ladies :) I got almost 6 hours of sleep in a row last night! (the past few days, I've woken ever hour or two not being able to breathe or swallow), so I think I must be on the mend!

I love, love, love my new haircut :) It's shorter than I think I've ever had it--too short for a ponytail, but SO cute with a headband. I even got some side swipy bangs! I wish I could find a picture online of something similar, but I'm having no luck. I suppose I could take a picture of myself...I'll think about that.

Tuesday, 8/14
B: 2 slices of oat bran toast, one w/ PB one with jam and marg, glass of OJ

L: Chicken fajita burrito, w/ black beans, salsa and guac (no cheese or sour cream)

D: Barilla+ pasta w/ marinara/turkey sauce and a root beer, also a fat free pudding snack

Feeling much better now, but I need to style my hair before I take a pic :lmao: and that requires effort. I went on a hike and to the farmer's market yesterday, and picked up some really nice produce that I used for dinner. Good times!

Wednesday, 8/15

B: 2 slices of toast w/jam, cherry yogury

L: Roast beef sandwich on sourdough w/ swiss

D: Orzo pasta salad w/ corn, peppers, and shrimp. Dressing was vinegar and a touch of olive oil. 2 small slices of sourdough. A peach

S: Handful of pita chips, bites of the stuff I was using to make dinner (corn etc)

Exercise: 1 mile walk w/ the dog and a 3.5 mile trail hike. It was really slow for me due to a) it's a hilly horse trail and I was avoiding, well, stuff b) I was so hungry, I think because my breakfast didn't have any protein c) my hip was acting up again
But I finished and it def. got my heart rate up for an hour so that's always a plus

have a great day!

Thank you guys! I put some smoothing creme in, so that's the "straight" look, but if I put some gel and scrunch it up after a shower, it gets kind of wavy and almost curly.

I am really digging the cut, but I'll be honest, I did not ask for this in particular. I just went to a highly recommended stylist and said "please don't make me look stupid and please give me something that doesn't let me just pull it in a ponytail all of the time or make my giant round head look like a pumpkin" and off she went. :)

Weekend was good, nothing too exciting. I finally got our oven fixed on Friday and I baked a ton for the neighbors (and us!) I ate way too many chocolate cookies, but they're gone now, so no more temptation :) The weather has been prettly lame the last few days, so much rain, which leads to me being highly unmotivated :lmao:

However, I have a doctor's appointment in 1 month and so my new mini-goal is to do something to get my heartrate up every day between now and then. I can't use the weather as an excuse, as I do have my exercise bike and DVDs. But I have to stop being such a lazy you know what. So, starting yesterday, I have to do something every day!

Monday 8/20
B: english muffin w/ PB and apricot preserves

L: Taco Bell (eek! burrtio and soft taco, and a giant sprite)

D: caesar salad w/ grilled salmon and mashed potatoes, also some bread

S: 2 chocolate cookies

Well, I have to say I haven't been checking in because I'm sort of embarassed at how poorly I'm doing the last few days. Burgers, ice cream, cake...pretty much anything goes  I had my own little come to Jesus meeting with myself this morning, and I think that I'm ok for now. At least motivated to be on track. One of my closest friends, who I haven't seen in a year, is coming on Thursday, so my short term goal is to be really happy with my eating between now and when she comes.

Exercise has been ok, not awesome, but ok. Thursday and Friday had walks with the dog. Saturday we went on a HUGE hike, somewhere between 6 and 7 miles. I was working hard :lmao: I'm happy because I'm not sore from it, which means my muscles must be in some kind of shape to be able to handle that much walking (it took us over 4 hours, plus about an hour or and hour and a half for a lunch break and photostop once we got to the lake). Cardio wise, I was breathing hard on most of the climb, but I never felt really bad.

The one bad thing was I fell on the way back (actually twice, I tripped on a rock, and as I was trying to get up, my toe got caught again, and I came down hard!), and really bruised my knee and leg on a rock, so I think I'm going to need another day to rest from that. My poor knee looks and feels pretty angry :)

I'm also feeling somewhat overwhelmed as the house needs a very deep clean before my friend comes, and I have a new student starting next week, and so I have some curriculum stuff I need to get moving on. Busy times, but at least it's all fairly straightforward. Crossing my fingers for no surprises!

kimwim8

Hey girl. Nothing to be embarrassed about. No one here is perfect. We all slip, and we find our way back. I'm glad your friend coming is your motivation to get back on track. We all need something like that in our lives to get us back into it. :thumbsup2

Congrats on the AWESOME hike. That's really great that you can go that far and feel good! It really shows how far you've come after your surgery, you know? :goodvibes

Oh, and I agree with Tracey, if I'm ever in your part of the country, I totally want to come to your house for dinner. You make some very creative dishes! :)

D: Chicken caesar wrap and a cup of tortilla soup

There's definitely something in the air. I think for me, it's the end of the summer putting me in this eating funk. Like, I have to eat all kinds of bad summerish food before it's gone. (of course, I couldn't have this feeling for the wonderful produce that's available now. :sad2: )

We will all get back on track. :thumbsup2

Bekki, the pic your DS took is amazing! He certainly has a great eye. Photographing wild life needs a special talent, and your son certainly has it. I am still working on posed friends and family. :rotfl2:

Time is moving quickly. I am glad the summer is over. I never really do well in the summer, and this one seemed extra busy. DS is now all together in his dorm room, he had a great time at WDW. Thursday we get some options for my dad and his kidney issues. Guess the one is totally dead and the other only at 25%. When it rains, it certainly pours! At least that is what it seems like.

Well, enough babbling. Still have lots of journals to catch up.

Take care!

Thanks to all of your well wishes, the knee is finally feeling close to normal! I'm pretty sure I bruised my kneecap (down to the bone) and bruised bones take forever to heal! But now it really only smarts if I kneel on it, and I think I can avoid that :D

Weekend was so lazy..I think I left the house to walk the dog each day, and that's about it! I'm getting excited for next weekend, we leave Friday to visit my cousin at school (he goes to Penn). I'm sure I'll eat like crazy, so I'm trying to be especially good this week in preparation :lmao:

Monday, 9/10
B: Bowl of frosted mini wheats w/ skim milk

L: 2 reduced fat hot dogs on whole grain buns and about 1/2 cup of baked beans

D: 1.5 balsamic glazed sausage and onion hoagies (easiest recipe EVER! Cut up enough sausage for who ever your cooking for, we eat about 2 each, and you totally can use turkey or chicken or whatever sausage you like. I always use the spicy italian. Toss it in a baking dish w/ about 1/2 of an onion per person chopped up in biggish chunks. Sprinkle about 1/4 c. of balsamic vinegar and a tbls. or water or so. Mix it all up and roast at 425 for about 45 minutes, stiring once or twice during cooking. Serve on rolls, in pita, whatever floats your boat) Yum-O!

S: Handful of chocolate chips, small bowl of Cocoa Puffs

Exercise: walk w/ the dog

Hi everyone!

We're back, and had a fantastic time. We walked SO much, that I think I might have balenced the amount of food we ate :rotfl: Seriously though, we ate at this Spanish tapas place, and I'm pretty sure it's in my top 3 restaurants of all time. It was AMAZING :) Cousin didn't play in the game, and they ended up losing by a point, but it was still really fun.

I would like to share one of the more bizzare things I have ever experianced with you all. I'd like to remind you that Penn is the oldest University in the US and was founded by Ben Franklin. It's an Ivy League school. And this is it's tradition: (from wikipedia)

"As a sign of school pride, crowds of Quaker fans perform a unique ritual. After the third quarter of football games, spirited onlookers unite in the singing of "Drink a Highball." In years long past, students would literally make a toast to the success of Penn's athletic teams. During Prohibition, stubborn students insisted on keeping their tradition - since they could not use alcohol, they had no choice but to literally "toast" Penn. As the last line, "Here's a toast to dear old Penn," is sung, the fans send toast hurling through the air onto the sidelines. In another version of the origins of toast throwing, in 1977, a student threw the first slice of toast after being inspired while attending a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show where members of the audience throw toast at the screen. In more recent years, some students have become more creative in their choice of projectiles, and it is not rare to see a hail of bagels or donuts, or even a loaf of French bread come flying down from the stands.[1]

The athletics department has purchased several industrial street sweepers built by Tenant Inc. The latest is a 6400 Rider Sweeper used for cleaning the concourses and track area of the stadium.[citation needed] The sweeper is often called the "toast Zamboni".[2]"

I would have never believed it unless I was there. It was so weird and so funny. :lmao:

Onto food:
