Sorry I have been lacking in my duties but as many of you know I was on a secret mission. It didn't go well but that my dears in another thread to be told on another day. No more crying in my Pepsi.
Question What do you do with stuff you know you will never use but hate to toss?
I was thinking of going to my LSS and adding stuff to the yard sale however you don't get cash back only store credit. Which is all well and good but like I really need more stuff. I can't even use what I have.
Our Girl Scouts aren't into scrapping *gasp*, I know, for shame!!!! Especially since 1/2 the moms scrap. Back to that secret society thing again.....we must share our vast knowledge with our petite scrappers! Ok I'm drifting..
I've done some MAW pages which were great I really enjoyed doing them but those were completed pages that I had specific ideas for and I went out and shopped for them.
Some things I give to the kiddos, the art teacher, etc....
Ok maybe I need a shopoholic 12 step program. Anyone interested in joining me??? The first step is acknowledging you have a problem.....
So ideas on what to do with any of this stuff???
If you are going to start a shopaholic 12 step program, sign me up!
I never get rid of out any of my materials anymore. In the past, it seems the second I do that, I need the product the very next day. Why is that? :confused3
Is it any wonder I have a very messy, cluttered scrapbooking room? :rotfl:
You've peaked my curiosity on this secret mission of yours..........

LOL. Seriously, though -- if you get out just a few items, you can make up some cards in no time flat! Just make the cards from half of an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of cardstock, then make a "card front" from a piece that's about 4 inches by 5.25 inches, then decorate the card front with a couple of scraps of paper, a tag, a button, a small piece of ribbon, and a written sentiment, and voila! You're done. It takes no time at all. Do it during television commercials & you'll have a set of 6, ready to give as a gift. :)
To inspire you, here are a couple of cards that are super simple:

I have paper and die-cuts and stickers in my craft room that I bought about 5 years ago and have never used and probably never will use it. But like Lisa said, the second I throw it away I'll need it. Luckily I have a lot of storage in that room.
I have become much more discriminating in what I buy now. I'm also becoming more frugal and I don't go to the LSS unless I need something specific to complete a page, otherwise I'll go nuts and buy a million things - I know, how very disciplined of me :rotfl:

I'm doing my part to start my daughter on this addictive hobby. I periodically go through my stuff and put it in a box for her to use. Because she is only 5, she is less picky and loves to create artwork with my olds stuff. I'm taking her to our first Mommy and Me Crop in a couple of weeks - can't wait!

I did put my stuff in the yard sale for store credit and was very happy. I use my credit for crops, card classes, adhesives and tools. Friday night I got REALLY crazy and threw out 2/3 of my scraps!

THE HORROR!!
Seriously, I do need to break down and throw out my scraps from the swaps I made. I mean really, what am I going to do with 1/4 x 5 inches of flower paper?
I do have tons of embellishments that I bought that I'm pretty sure I'm never going to use. I'm just waiting for the next "anything in an envelope" swap to give them a new home. Hey, PrincessNancy96, your swap is almost done, why don't you do this one next? :thumbsup2

Ha, i am with you all! LOL I have stuff untouched from YEARS ago! Geezz..
I am also giving it to my dd to start her off (she is almost 6).
Funny story: About a couple months ago, i had my niece (9) sleep over for the night. I thought her and my dd (5) would be occupied playing together with their "littest pet shop toys", well, i tried to sneak into my scrap room and work on swaps.
Well, once my niece ventured into my scrap room, it was like she was in heaven! They both ended up taking over my 8 foot table, punching and sticking paper into all kinds of collages..lol. I ended up packing her up a huge box full of old stuff i had, and she thought i was the best aunt in the world! LOL

I think I might actually use a lot of the christmas paper to make cards to send to you guys. You are the only ones that would appreciate the hard work that goes into making cards.
I bought an address book so everyones swap addys are together and organized, instant card list! :thumbsup2

I hoard mine too. Ask my kids.. they had to divide them out by color and put them in file folders last weekend.. They had 3- gallon size ziplock bags... but I refuse to part with them!!! I have been using them for pull tags under pictures in layouts... now just to put the total lo together on a page.. I'd be getting somewhere!!! After this week, I can scap more because some sports seasons will be over and I will have a small hiatus before the next seasons start!

I'm a keeper but with my new craft room I'm trying really hard to only move in what I know I will use. I have started a box of stuff that is not coming back in. LOL now I need to figure out what to do with it.
I'm also a scrap keeper. LOL I use mostly SU cardstock which is all in files so I put the correct color back in its file. For the other paper I have a couple file folders for Disney, solids, specific patterns I think I might actually use and then the misc folder. With the new room it may get broken down differently but this is what I'll start with. When people come over and want to just try something I always grab the misc folder.

Hmm thats a good one. I have a sister whose only 11 and loves to use my stuff. She's visiting this weekend so maybe the box of goodies will just have to magically end up in my moms car. LOL

You dont just keep saving stuff in case you may need it in a few years :confused3
I have a LARGE rubbermaid tub for most of it BUT I do go through it once a year or so!

I just organized all my scraps too!
I bought a pack of 200 page protectors from Office Max for $8, and I had a bunch of 3 ring binders that I wasn't using. So now I have 4 binders full of my scraps. One is for patterned paper, one is for Bazzil, one for colors, and one for greyscale.
I have so many basic white scraps that they are in 2 gallon ziplock bags.
And so far, I've found that it works really well, and I am actually using the scraps instead of reaching for another full sheet of paper. I've done 15 pages, so far this month.

Me too.. I find that since it's organized by color I just grab that file folder and more than likely have a scrap of the main color I'm working with!!

Squid,
I would love to save everything but space is at a premium in this house. My current scrap location is in the converted breakfast nook. I live in a Sears catalog house that had the nook with the built in tables. Well it is right near the back door so we put a coat rack with baskets on one side. That is what my paper is on and on the other wall is my bookcase and some shelving. On top of that are 2 units for hardware I bought at Target. I have maxed out my space. I would put the stuff in the basement but it stays moist enough to ruin paper. Next house I'm getting a room of my own!!!!!
Hope,
I 'm doing the same thing with my stickers and rub ons. I also bought 4x6 page protectors that hold 2 photos and baseball card page protectors for the small stuff. It's working out well but those pages cost a fortune!
For my scraps CM makes these folders that have 2 slots I put the larger pieces in the top and the smaller pieces in the bottom pocket. Those fit in my cropper hopper with my full 12x12 sheets which are divided by color, season, and holiday.

Ya know, I have a TON of stuff that I got as part of being sucked into scrap days on QVC. I know I won't use much of it, but I still hang on...I have it in a scrap organizer that I got at CKC last year.
I'm liking the idea of the binders for scraps. I found some plain white ones at BJ's last month, and bought them cause they were on sale. I'm always printing stuff out, and saving in 3-rings. Anyway, I'm going to try them for my scraps....Great idea!!!! :teeth:

I was thinking of doing a pizza party type swap. I was going to throw a bunch of stuff in a pizza box and send it on to someone and they can pull out what they want and at to it, then send it on to the next person. What do you all think of that? Maybe after the first of the year?

Alrighty I will do sign ups on the swap thread and add it to the calendar some time in Dec. I will do the first mailing sometime in early January. I will probably start on the east coast and work westward. If we have a published list of names the next person can get their stuff together. I will also include an address book in oder on the inside of the box, just check off your name when you get it. Do you think a month for each person is good, or more like 2 weeks? The more I think about it I would say 2 weeks that way it's still moving. If we get a lot of participants we could do an East and West that will cross over. How does that sound?
How about I donate the rest of the box when it is returned to me to Make a Wish or Girl Scouts. Or we can just keep going.
We have time to talk more about it. :thumbsup2

I thought we were all going over to your house for pizza and swapping out our scraps :teeth: .
Two weeks sounds good. Any longer and people might forget it. Knowing when your next is good 'cause you can be getting your stuff together to put in after you pull things out.
Maybe also including the address labels on the inside so we can just put the next address on top of the old (until it gets too tall and pull some off then) so that the box stays neat for the postal system?
PrincessNancy96
10-12-2006, 07:06 AM
I say a 2 weeks turnaround is best...
Definitely include the addy's to be checked off in the box!
Donating or continuing at the end of the round is fine by me.. Either way!
I look forward to this one!! :)
ddavis860
10-12-2006, 07:58 AM
So what kinds of things are we to include. Just the stuff that isn't our "style" anymore? I really have a TON of stuff that I thought was so wonderful when I bought it...got too much of it, and now I'm not interested in using it again...half sheets of stickers...stuff like that...
What about swap prototypes that didn't make the cut, but you still have 6 or 8 in "kit" form?
Wow, I'm thinking of too many questions aren't I...
BernardandMissBianca
10-12-2006, 08:38 AM
No your not asking to many questions. Yes you can put in swap stuff, I had 3 of my cuckoo clocks from the Epcot swap returned to me and I don't need all three. You could include stickers, example my three boys names all end in _an so I'm always running out of those letters, if someone else has then that doesn't use them it would be perfect.
Fibers, paper, brads, eyelets, embellishments you just had to have but now your at a loss as to how to use them. I even received some small punches as a gift that I already had so I'm going put those in.
As long as it's in good shape and you won't use it, toss it in.
