I am the coordinator of a scrapbooking project that provides the Central/Western NC Chapter of Make a Wish with scrapbooks; given to families who go to Disney on their wish.
I've been organizing this project for 2 years, and MAW now counts on us to provide each and every family an album!
Our group of scrapbookers sending in layouts has dwindled to a loyal few, and don't want to let MAW (and these families!!) down, so I'm reaching out to YOU!!
here is a list of faq's to help explain our project and how you can help!
*What is this project about?
Scrappers create Disney themed layouts and send them to me. I combine them into albums, and give them to the Central/Western NC chapter of Make a Wish. MAW then gives these albums to families who go to Disney on their child's wish.
*is this tax deductible?
YES! just include a note in your package letting me know you need one, and I will get one on MAW letterhead out to you!
*how many do I have to make?
this is completely up to you- you can make 1 or 100!
*what character/s do I have to make?
again, your call!
*what size pages do I have to do?
yep, you guessed it! your choice!
*if I dont have time to send layouts, what else can i do to help?
We desperately need 8.5x11 binders/albums and page protectors. Colorbox donated a BUNCH of 12x12 albums, but we need the 8.5x11
*what do I do when i'm ready to mail my layouts?
email me, and I'll get you the address!
*how long have you been doing this?
2 years THIS MONTH!!
*when are these due?
currently we are accepting layouts as they come in, but normally we have deadlines every 4 months or so.
*will you be doing this again? absolutely! , as long as people are willing to donate, then we're willing to keep on!
*Can I do other sized albums/layouts?
(6x6, cm 7x7, 8x8, accordian albums) Sure, but if you're gonna do this, please do a completed album. It's really hard to request x number of 6x6 pages, for example. We had several people do these completed albums last round, and they were awesome!
*how do I send/package my lo's once I get them all ready?
Pizza boxes work great!, or priority boxes from the post office- these can be left flat, and just slide your lo's in!
*do my layouts have to be all the same?
nope! but they CAN be if you want!
So, with all that being said... aren't you just itching to help!!!! :yay:
Fire away with any questions or thoughts, and thanks to Peggy for pointing out this site to me!!

This is a wonderful way to indulge your passion for Disney scrapbooking while doing something for someone else (is there a better combination?)! I have been participating for about 2 years now...Sheri is wonderfully flexible and so appreciative of whatever you can send. Come join us!

Do you think anyone here would mind if I included some of their swap materials in the donated pages? We have some amazingly talented swappers here and as much as I love the items I've gotten, there are a couple that I don't think I'll end up using. I don't want to offend anyone, especially sonce I think this would be such a fantastic place to donate some of these beautiful items to.

If you have any of my items, feel free to use them on a page to send to this worthwhile cause. :sunny:

I'd definitely be interested in doing this. Do you know if other chapters of Make a Wish throughout the country do something similar?

as far as I know, no.
I know a few helpers of my project have tried to get something similar started, but I don't think it ever really took off for them.
You are more than welcome to do the same, though... just get in contact with your local chapter and find out if they'd be interested in receiving the albums, etc.

I don't think I posted this on the original post, but if you will please write your first name and city/state on the back of EACH layout.. it would be great!
When MAW gives the family their book, they point that out to them, to show how people from all over the world have come together to give them their book.
Thank you!!

Sheri--
I would be happy to help with this project. I joined your yahoo group and posted a message there too. My boys received a MAW trip to WDW last fall and I can't say enough great things about MAW and GKTW where we stayed!
I have been working on my boys' album and have extra supplies to make some other layouts.
I'm going to check with my local chapter to see if they do anything like this. What is the deadline for mailing them to you?

Marie,
The last round "officially" closed October 1, but I accept layouts and goodies any time. I'm extending Round 8 (the one that ended October 1) until the beginning of November, I think. So you're good to send anytime!

I must have missed this, but you say you can do "other" sized layouts. What size are you actually looking for, 12x12 or 8 1/2 x 11? You talk about both sized binders and I'm just slightly confused, sorry.

She will take either size. Right now she has a lot of empty 12 x 12 albums that were donated and very few 8 1/2 x 11s, so the 12 x 12 would probably get used faster. But I know she was looking into another source for 8 1/2 x 11s....I would make whatever you're the most comfortable with, they will get used!

Well, it started out with 2 double page layouts and it morphed into 6. They are going out in the mail tomorrow. Hope they are what you need! :) It was fun! Now, why can't I get them done like that for me??? :rotfl:

Hi guys!
I'm here!
I thought I was getting emails with new replies- but apparently not :rolleyes1
anyway, yes, as peggy said- I do accept any size layouts. We have lots of 12x12 albums to fill up, and NO 8.5x11 albums to even put the layouts we currently have in.
If you want to do another size, like 8x8 or 6x6, then I ask that you do a complete album (and include the album), because it's very difficult to ask for 6 8x8 lo's- for example.

Well, a friend and I sat down over the weekend and had a BLAST making pages for you. A grand total of 40 pages will be heading your way as soon as I can find a box for them. Enjoy!

You're better than me! It took me forever to do one 2 page layout and I don't think it looks that good. I hope it's because there aren't pictures on it yet.
I usually design my pages around the pictures so it was really hard for me to design a page without any pictures to start with. I'm going to try to do more and see if it gets easier. Maybe I'll get a polite note back saying not to submit anymore pages because they're "not what they're looking for" (i.e. ugly) :lmao:

I just joined the Yahoo group too. This is really going to help me clean out my stash! I have been wondering what to do when my swaps are finished for the holiday break...
I was wondering, are digital pages ever used? Or a combo of digital and embellished? Just curious...

This is amazing! I am going to go out to the site, but wanted to let you know I will be sending things in the future. My DD has been wanting to help me scrapbook and I can think of nothing better than to let her help me do these pages.

Our pages should be on the way early next week -- I've got a high school reunion this week so I'm a bit stressed! We had a terrific time making pages. It looks like you will get around 20 pages. We'll keep making them if you want to keep taking them. This is a GREAT way to be involved. Thanks!!!!!

This is so worthwhile! Is there a UK co-ordinator do you know, or is it exclusively a US project? (I spend so much time on these boards I think I lose track of where I live :guilty: ) I've just finished saying on the November Challenge thread that I may have some Disney supplies left after my album and I spotted this! I don't do very "heavy" pages so i could send them in a stiff envelope if I didn't send too many (the sort with a cardboard back) or put them between card in a jiffy, but if there was somewhere a bit more local I could maybe even deliver them.
I am a slow scrapper so don't wait with baited breath, but I really would like to do something if I can. :wizard:
