I like being homeschooled. It means that if I get my work done early I can get on the DIS, lol. :)
Pros are: not having a set schedule (not anymore; I'm doing online college courses :(), being able to work at your own pace (if you don't understand the math, you can put it away for a week, etc.), and being able to sleep late (8:00, yay! :teeth: ).
Cons: being at home with your family all day long (especially stinks if you have a small place; you're all crammed in together and you end up getting annoyed with one another), and people think you're either weird or not quite as smart. (I could read at 3 and was in 2nd grade at 5; I don't think I'm dumb! :p)
I didn't used to have any social life at all. When I lived in Colorado I ice skated for about 4 years, then played hockey with my brothers for a year, but I never had any real friends. Then I moved here to Florida and got involved in martial arts, and now I'm an assistant instructor and have the entire school as friends! :woohoo:
All in all, I'm glad I was homeschooled. I like to think I'm quite smart, especially since all the people I know depend on calculators to do simple addition and I can do it in my head. Oh, and also when people have to come and ask me "What does 'stringent' mean?" or "How do you spell 'sheriff'?" I am the walking dictionary and calculator, lol. :teeth:

well, heres my "homeschool story" :
i am not a traditional homeschooler. i am "attending" an online school that i just happen to do at home. i have a real teacher who i hear from once or twice a week. but, the main source of "learning", is the computer. i have a special username and password for a website and i am basically taught by the computer.
pros: staying home, going on as many field trips as wanted, work at your own pace, being away from school/social drama, chose what you wanna do!
cons: not interacting with friends everyday, being stuck inside til school is done, not going new school clothes shopping (:sad2: lol).
overall, i like it. yeah i see my friends like three times a week. but half of them, i dont wanna see so i dont miss them hardly. it is pretty cool though sleeping in, working in pj's, being able to go on "shopping field trips to walmart" lol. however, doing this type of school, i dont feel like i'm prepared enough for hs..................................but its pretty cool! :cool1:

I think it really depends on your teacher... if whoever teaches you (for me it was my mom) really knows how to deal with kids and actually works with you and tries to make the curriculum interesting, it's really cool. But if you have to do it all yourself when you're not ready or your parent isn't willing to help if you have a problem, it can be a real drag. I remember that for about 3 years my mom was really badly sick, and my brothers and I were too immature to teach ourselves so no school for us for a couple years (that was sooooo bad!). Thank God we caught up and passed our grade levels again later!
But when we were younger, we had "fun" curriculum. Not really fun as in play-all-day, but we had history books that had some pictures we could color and science books with mini-projects and stuff.

Yeah, I remember that... I didn't really mind when I was younger, but as I got older I began to realize what I was missing as far as friends went.
EDIT: And I can sympathize with you only being around younger brothers and sisters... I had two younger brothers (one was only 2 minutes younger, lol) but they would always play the dumbest games and always with each other. Being left out of all their games gave me the imagination and love of books that I have today.

Wow theres alot of you homeschoolers!! Do you like it? I couldn't imagine not going to another place for school. Do you follow the school year, or do you just do school whenever you want?

Well, we never had summer, but we would get random weeks off and about the entire month of December, so we never really needed summer. Now that we're in college, though, no more random weeks or December, so we'll probably be on a "normal" schedule.
We (my family and I) don't really follow the official school year. Yes, we are 'in school' for most of the same days as everyone else, but we take breaks mid-school year, so that when we go on vacation, there's a LOT less crowds. :)

Me neither. I just wouldn't want to have my mom teach me all day. I would also miss the social life as well. Kudos to those who like it though!

I'm kind of in the same situation as you. I do four classes online, and two classes at a regular high school.
Pros: Sleep a bit later, I can still see my friends and have a semi-normal high school experience, and I learn better.
Cons: Some people think you're lazy or stupid. I do it because I have a problem with being nervous at school, and I have no way of getting there on time. I think it's easier to learn on the net anyways, you get the help right when you need it.

I also do online high school, though I am just an online student. I have never gone to a 'bricks and mortar' school, and have been doing online school all through high school. I live in the country, so I don't have much of a social life, although I do have the BEST friend! She goes to the online school as well, so it is cool :cool1:
The good part of being homeschooled is being able to take time off school, like to go to Disney!! :thumbsup2

Heh, what do you think I do when I get bored with my online class? Come here, duh! :goodvibes Unfortunately, nobody's usually here during the day, so I have the place to myself. :rotfl:

i do online correspondence high school, and really, i like it a lot. i can work at my own pace, graduate early, and i don't have to deal with any teacher or student drama. i have an active social life too, since the reason i do online schooling is because of my main activity which is dance. it's not for everyone, and at first it's really hard to be self-motivated to do work, but i really like it. :)

I agree with you about the motivating stuff!! It takes a long time to figure out a schedule etc. What kind of dance do you do?? There is lots of people at the online school that I go to that Highland dance, my sister being one of them. I train/comptete with my horse, which is why I do online school.
