View Full Version : Pre-planning for a weekend away

Tomorrow is my 20th wedding anniversary so this weekend DH and I are going away to a bed and breakfast in the blue ridge mountains. Only thing is we will be having a gourmet dinner Saturday night and a gourmet breakfast on Sunday, with champagne, wine and cheese Saturday afternoon. I need some tips to keep me on track as all of these temptations will be difficult. Help!!!!

Happy Anniversary! My first thought is to tell you to go and have fun and not worry about it. But, I know how sometimes one or two days of overindulgence can lead to more days like that, so I so understand your wanting to hold it steady. I would suggest lots of water and if you can work some activity in, maybe a walk in those lovely mountains. I would imagine that at the champagne and cheese thing they will also have fruit so that might help. I would try what looks good and try to just have a little. And I have a friend who has lots tons of weight with apples. Before every meal, especially restaurant and special occasion meals, she has a nice juicy apple and 16 oz. of water. I am seriously thinking of trying this next time I have a special occasion. Have a wonderful time on your anniversary. If all else fails just hit it hard next week when you come home!

Thanks for the tips. I know having good intentions is the first step, but I know my weaknesses and I am so afraid of failing. We had to inform the inn of our meal selections so when I sent my email this evening I asked if there was any way possible to make one of their selections healthier or perhaps with the sauce on the side, so we will see what they say. Here are the menu choices that are available. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Balsamic Marinated Chicken – Grilled Marinated Boneless Breast of Chicken topped with Sautéed Mixed Peppers and Onions, on a bed of Jasmine Rice, and Seasonal Vegetables.

Tournedo Au Poivre – Pan Seared Medallions of Beef Tenderloin with a Peppercorn and Brandy Sauce, Potatoes Galette, and Seasonal Vegetables.

Salmon Newburg – Roast Filet of Atlantic Salmon topped with Shrimp and Scallops in a Sherry Cream Sauce, with Lemon Chive Cous Cous and Seasonal Vegetables.

Rack of Lamb- Roasted Rack of Lamb with a Rosemary and Whole Grain Mustard Cream Sauce, served with Wild Mushroom Risotto and Seasonal Vegetables.

Grilled Ribeye – Grilled 10 oz. cut of Ribeye with a Virginia Merlot and Saga Blue Cheese Demi-glace, Potatoes Galette, and Seasonal Vegetables.

Grilled Pork Loin – Charbroiled Center Cut Pork Loin topped with a Cheddar, Pecan and Local Maple Syrup Glaze, Mushroom Risotto, and Seasonal Vegetables.

North Carolina Trout – Pan Fried Potato Encrusted Trout topped with an Herbed Butter and served with and Seasonal Vegetables.

Veal a l’Espagnole - Pan Seared Veal Cutlet topped with a sautéed tomato, onion, garlic and sweet pepper demi-glace, accompanied with Jasmine Rice and Seasonal Vegetables.

All entrees served with Chef’s Salad du Jour, Homemade Dessert, and Coffee or Tea.

Congrats on 20 years. QUite an accomplishment these days.

THe first choice doesn't sound too bad. I agree to stick with fruits and vegs and share dessert.

Congratulations on 20 years! That is wonderful.

If you are not willing to completely indulge then my suggestion would be portion size. No matter what you get, make the portion size one you want before you begin eating put the rest aside. Enjoy whatever it is you select.

Hi Debbi :wave: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and Tim! Good for you for planning ahead. I would concentrate on fruit (if available) when you have the champagne, wine and cheese and also try to walk during the afternoon ~ I am sure it will be beautiful there in the mountains. Have a wonderful time and enjoy yourselves!

I agree and this is what I ended up ordering with the sauteed onions and peppers on the side. Sharing a dessert is a great idea, silly, I never thought of that!!!
