cheer2:

Its so far away, just about 501 days but is anyone planning yet for February 2008. I've never been to the World during a Peak time, so any information about weather :sunny: , crowds :dance3: etc will be very helpful.

:Pinkbounc

The sands of time are passing slowly :hourglass on this planned vacation trip. We hope to have a group of about 13 however my mom is one of 13 and she doesn't know yet that we are planning to nclude her. She is mobility limited so I am starting to research such things as scooter rentals, ways to shorten the walks to get to the rental areas, trying to find out about elevators etc.

See here's Mom on her scooter now :moped: vrrrrrrrrrom I can just picture her and how much fun she'll have watching all the grandkids and her own children thoroughly enjoy ourselves.

Glad I'm not the only one planning so far ahead - just excited I guess! I've never been during this time of year either so I hope you get some good advice that I can read up on! We're planning on Feb. 3-8 which is Mardi Gras week for us. I've heard its not that busy and the weather is pleasant. :goodvibes

Feb is our FAVORITE time of year! Feb 06 Feb 07 and Feb 08! Crowds are great! Example It's a Small World 5 mins!! The weather is great for Wisconsin people okay for most people about 70 and Sunny but mornings and nights cold some times even 40's. I don't know about the scooter thing but we rent a stroller for kids from WDW and it works out great. I hope you have the time of your lives! :cool1:

Hi Melanie, we are not going until approx mid February during school vacation but I'll be interested to read what others find this February as far as the crowds and weather.

We officially booked our stay at Pop!:cool1: Of course, they gave me the whole "rates may change - blah, blah, blah" but at least it is official! Now the wait is on until the packages come out during the summer. :rolleyes1 Did anyone else book?

I'm trying to plan an 08 trip as well. I'm curious about the crowds during Mardis Gras week. Cant't be as bad as Presidents week can they? Has anyone been during that time?

I can't believe you're booked for 2008. WOW. I want to go in 2008. There will 9 of us. Will need 3 rooms at POLY. When would you suggest I book. Not sure of the exact date. But maybe Sept/Oct. Never been before. So much to learn. Will try to use frequent flyer miles. Which do I book first, flight then room? Thanks

I'm not as experienced as some of the other Dissesrs who can give you better advice, but I can tell you our situation. My husband and I are both teachers so we're pretty locked into when we can go on a vacation. Since summers are (imo) too hot and crowded, we try to go during one of our holidays (this time being Mardi Gras). I've always booked close to a year in advance probably because I'm anxious and excited to start planning. This way I know the availability will be there and gives me time to pay and plan. One problem about booking that far in advance is there may be a rate change. I don't know if you can make a reservation earlier than a year. Maybe a more experienced Disser can answer that for you. Good luck with your vacation! :goodvibes

Congrats on already having a booked vacation. Since February is school vacation time, what are the crowds like. According to most charts this is one of the prime seasons -- that's why I wondered about crowds.

We generally prefer Sept/October however with my sister working in a school system -- the February vacation seemed like a good idea.

I have several friends that escape the Mardi Gras season by vacationing at Disney and they all say that it depends when Mardi Gras week falls. In 2008, Mardi Gras Day will fall on Feb. 5 (extremely early). This is good. Value season usually lasts until about Feb. 14 so we fit into the lower rates. As far as the crowds, I've heard that some schools in some states get off the week of Presidents' Day so you have to watch that Mardi Gras and President's Day don't overlap. Other than that, my friends have said they find the crowds not too bad - just a lot of Louisiana people. I plan to sport my LSU, Mardi Gras, and Saints attire. :cheer2: OK -well depends if the Saints play as well as this past season - I know I'm fickle. :rotfl:

I called CRO today and was told I COULD NOT book 2008 until July or August. What's up with that??? :confused3 Plus as soon as I said I didn't have any more questions the woman hung up on me. No have a nice day or anything. I was definately not feeling the magic.

When I first inquired about 2008, I got the same story and the CM didn't sound very helpful. I insisted that I was told that I could reserve a room only and switch to a package later. She put me on hold and came back to explain about prices probably increasing but that she could reserve our room if I really wanted to. She seemed a little friendlier during our conversation, but it seemed like they try to discourage booking so early. Maybe try again with another CM and mention knowing someone who has booked (room-only) reservervations. ??? Hope you can book soon. :goodvibes I know how anxious I was to get the ball rolling.

I'm glad you were able to book your reservation. I'm waiting patiently :rotfl2: for Dear Brother in law to finalize the dates with his parents and work, and until then I just don't feel like it is real. Once the reservations are made (JOY oh JOY) :cheer2: then there will be some relief as I count down the days until I can make ADR's about 180 days out.

Anyone have any information about crowds and weather from February 15 through February 24, 2008?

I'm also thinking of late Jan/early Feb. Combination of far enough away to start seriously saving money, time for planning, what seems to be good conditions for crowds, weather and value--and our 25th anniversary is the same day as Mardi Gras in 2008!!

We will go again the week before President's week. My kids are out of school President's week but there isn't enough money in the world for me to go that week so I take them out of school the week before and they have the week school is out to do all the work they missed while they were out. As for me well I just get a 2 week vacation:lmao:

We're going to be going the last week of February. Our oldest son will be in high school and so there's no way of getting any extra days off. Nope! Our district just set next year's calendar so making reservations is on my list of things to do. I'm glad to hear that I might have to ask patiently for a reservation.

I just checked airfares and it's already more expensive to fly then than it is to fly in June!

We went this February vacation and my younger son wanted to get haircut at the Main Street Barbershop. While waiting, a man getting his haircut said something like "I can't believe I came all the way from New Hampshire to get my hair cut!" That started everyone else saying "We're from New Hampshire!" Turns out all four or five families who were waiting were from NH!

Which resorts are people staying at? I know I want a hot tub, because the air will probably be too cool for me to swim. I really enjoyed POR's hut tub this year. :)

We're going February 24- March 1 and staying at WL if all goes as planned. I've heard fromn both AAA and a CM that the New rates for 2008 should be released in June. We're waiting until then to book the trip. So excited!!party:

We're planning our first family trip to Disney in Feb as well. Exact dates are up in the air, but it will definately be before the peak season rates are in effect. Right now, the favorite resort choice is the Poly. I really want to be close to MK since our children are still young (11 and under) and would like to escape to the hotel during the afternoons. Kids love to swim and the Poly looked like a good place to relax. All this pre-planning is so exciting and really gets the family involved by being very aware of spending habits ("do we really need this right now?") so that we'll have enough to enjoy our vacation.

We're booked, group of 7, 3 rooms at PC Feb 2-10. Will wait until AP rates are out to see if we'll change resorts. Can't wait. Will be DS's girlfriend's first time. Will be the first time for DSIL since 1971. Can't wait to share the memories.

I'm so glad I am not the only one planning that far in advance! My dh and I just decided that we are going to go the week of Valentine's day along with my parents. All we are trying to do now is decide where we are going to stay. We really wanted to try a MK resort and my mother like the idea of CR, but with all the construction going on I'm pushing for the Poly.

I've never booked this far in advance so how is it done? Do you just book your room and then wait for the package prices to come out and adjust your reservation? I do want park hopper and dining plan if all goes well so would appreciate any info someone might have.

We've booked our room at the Poly and bought our park tickets for Feb. 08. I'm wondering when is the best time to get our plane tickets. I don't want to wait too long, but I'm worried that if I book them too soon, we'll miss out on the fare sales.

Just booked POR and may change to one of the value resorts. Jan 31, 2008 - Feb 5th 2008. We were just there for a week March 29th 2007 and boy was it crowded and hot. I talked to alot of CM and ask when was the crowds very low. They all said Jan and Feb were the best ---no crowds and no hot days. A friend of ours went last year during this time and she said the longest line to wait in was 15 min and alot of the rides they didn't even have to get off -- they just stayed on and kept riding. I can't wait. We have always been when it was so crowded that you couldn't even walk. Feb 2nd will be our daughters 13th birthday, so thats the only reason we are going. YES I'm keeping them out of school for 3 days, but we don't always do this. We have a 9 hour drive so we can't stay too long on this trip.

I just booked our next WDW vacation yesterday. We'll be at POP 2/9-2/16. We went this year at approximately the same time. The week prior to President's Day week. It was great. Although you could definitely tell the crowds were up on Friday before the holiday. The weather was great and the crowds too. Anything is better than NW Indiana weather in February and the heat and crowds of summer. It'll be myself, DH and DS9. I wanted to squeeze one more trip in while DS9 is still a jr/children's menu as we'll be doing the DDP again. It was great this year. I'm sure we'll do better at using the DDP this time. It took us a little while to get use to it this year. We'll be sharing more meals, etc. This past visit was our first time at POP and as you can see we'll be visiting there again. I loved it and can't wait to go back. Here's hoping February comes fast. Have fun planning everyone.

Several posts I've read about Mardi Gras week said that this year Mardi Gras and Daytona were the same week, so that led to larger crowds than just Mardi Gras....and that since it's much earlier in 2008, and no Daytona, that might work to the lower crowds. I hope so, we're going last of January and into Feb.

Actually, the big problem last year was that it was the day after President's Day. That meant more people were able to go to WDW because of school holidays. Since we fall on Feb. 5th this year, there really isn't a BIG reason why we should see a large influx of people there. Besides, my DH is already having fits because Feb. 3rd is the Super Bowl. I told him that he can go watch it at the ESPN Club.:thumbsup2

Hee hee, and the Super Bowl is the whole reason that I picked this time period to GO to WDW....we're in Phoenix and the plans they're making involve closing down sections of the city for the parties and such, add in the extra traffic, crowds, traveling around town with not just a closed street, but entire areas closed.......well, and the fact that I'm definitely NOT a sports fan.....and to be honest, all I wanted to do was get OUT of here. From the plans being made it's not going to be fun to be anywhere around here. Tell your DH, he could come here and stay at my house so long as he promises to protect it from the drunk lunatics that are bound to take over this town! :rotfl2:

We're going in Feb. also. I think we are going to do the 6-13th, with the DDP. We are planning on staying at POP. But we haven't booked yet. I'm hoping the new rates will come out any day now so I figure I might as well wait a little bit longer to see what they are. I'm so excited! The last time I was at the World was in January of 2005 and it was great, not to busy not to hot. So I am assuming we can experience the same for the week we are going this time then.

I booked our room last week at the All Stars Movie Resort. I will switch it to the package once the prices come out. We are doing the DDP as well. It will be our kids first time, DS(3 1/2) DD (1). Its also our first time staying on property and doing the DDP.

So the DDP works like you have prepaid for your meals allowment everyday. So when we go to Le Cellier and use our DDP, we won't have to pay anything unless its not part of the app, entree, dessert? Am I right?

I cannot wait til we leave.

You'll get a table service credit, a counter service credit and a snack credit with DDP. Some restaurants like Artist's Point use up two table service credits. You may want to plan on bringing breakfast food if you don't want to pay for anything other than the DDP.

I'll be riding in the Bacchus parade this year which turns out is also Superbowl Sunday. Then we're waking up Monday morning and flying out of New Orleans for our Disney Vacation. Like many other of my fellow Louisianians, the Mardi Gras school holidays are perfect for a Disneyworld visit. The weather should be much more tolerable than summer and the crowds should be smaller. My wife booked us a room at the Contemporary Atrium Club Concierge or something like that yesterday from 2/4 - 2/10 and booked a Garden View room for her Mom and Dad to stay in and babysit our 8 year old son and 3 year old Daughter when we need them to. We were there last year for a few days before the Daytona 500 and it was pretty crowded. I'm just wondering what type of Mardi Gras Day observations Disney puts on, if any.

I called CRO and there is plenty of space on the 8th and 9th. It's munchies with Capn Hook and Mr Smee at the Contemporary, then a cruise with a pirate captain to see the Electrical Water Pageant, then off to the seven seas lagoon for Wishes. On the way back they read from a big book of stories about Peter Pan and Peter is waiting for us on the dock when we get there!

It's $43.99 for 10+ and $24.99 for 3-9.

The 8th starts at 8:45 and the 9th at 5:30. Since my daughter's only 5, I don't know how well she'd hold up on the 8th, so would really rather do the 9th.

As I'm booked through DVC, I have to call them in the morning to get the Grand Gatherings ressie number. Let me know if you want to do this and I can send it to you.

It sounds like a lot of fun, but I think we're going to have to pass. We have dinner plans on the ninth already. The 8:45 cruise would definitely be too late for our crew.

If anything changes, I'll let you know. Maybe we could try to switch our dinner plans.

I remember one of the Moms was a teacher, teaching high school math if I remember right.

We'll be there again this February vacation but only until very early Thursday AM - we're flying back to Manchester where ds14's robotics team will be competing. Set up is on Thursday and we're flying in, dropping of him and anyone else who wants/can stay and then at least I'm heading home.

We went last year at this time, and while it certainly wasn't as crowded as Memorial Day weekend & week, it wasn't particularly light either. The last week of February is New Hampshire school vacation week. Massachusett's is this coming week. (By and large, I believe.) We've tended to run with the rule that each person gets to pick one ride/show where the line is longer than 30 minutes as their "I really, really want to do this" event. Otherwise, we'll try to fast pass it, go during a parade, get there early or late but only one long line per person.

As far as the weather goes, I've been obsessively checking www.accuweather.com and www.weather.com for forecasts. It looks like the last week will be warm and then cool-ish but still way warmer than New Hampshire. I always make everyone bring their winter coats anyways because if we have dig out our car, they'll need them then.

And as far as the snow goes, our neighborhood has nearly become an exclusive community - it's a deadend Y shaped road on a hill so there's not a lot of traffic and the road is just getting bumpier and bumpier. Pretty soon you'll either have to have a four wheel vehicle or just not get in. Our driveway is particularly bad. I've been using 4wd since Wednesday.

We're in the small hills in the Monadnocks area. When the forecasters paint a heavier swath on the snowfall maps, generally we're in it unless the storm is goes north. I'm not looking forward to Sunday's storm.

I took out duffle bags today. I'm trying to figure out if we can do just carry-ons. I think it's going to be too chilly to go without jeans for the evenings and that makes everything a bit more bulky.

We're from NH, too - we also are going during school vacation week. We are staying off site at Windsor Hills - namely b/c I'm almost 6 mo's pregnant and won't be able to share a room AND a bed with my family of 4! Too crowded - I need my space! :rotfl:

We are leaving from Boston on Friday. The weather looks really good for travel - we're flying into Tampa this time - mostly b/c it was the best rates and times for us. Renting a car for the week and that will be a new experience for us....paying for parking 7 days - yuck!

I've been watching the weather for next week too and it looks really great! I should be packing and preparing but we have been so sick in our house. I just got back from the dr's for my 3 year old - she has had a fever for 4 days; the doc says it's an ear infection....sigh...so hopefully we'll all be better by Friday!

I just don't think I can waith any longer!!!:rotfl2: I hear you about sick kids, mine has had a cough, just a cough, for 5 weeks, 2 doctors trips and they still keep telling me its just a cold. I am hoping the humid aie in FL will help, but I am a little nervous about flying. I think we are going to be sticking clost to home this week to avoid germies. Flu cases are widespread in NH right now, and I have no desire to pick that up before we leave! We may even skip the gym to stay out of the playroom, who really cares what I look like in a bathing suit anyway, lol :rotfl: Is anyone planning on the pirates and princess party on the 26th? It looks like rain that day, but I think we will go anyway, DS is excited about it!

We considered the P & P party, but being 6 months pregnant, I can hardly stay up until 9pm, never mind any later! And w/the 3 year old just getting over her sickness, I'm thinking I won't push it....plus the extra cost....:confused3

I have my bag packed - going to work on my 12 year olds today with him now that he has no school today - that will be half the bags to deal with!

I'm finalizing my plans for next week - does anyone know how exciting ESPN wknd is? My 12 year old is really into sports and would probably get a kick out of it - expecially that Roger Clemens is supposed to be there - but I'm thinking the crowds.....dunno....

I looked at weather again this morning. weather.com seems to predict more rain than acuweather.com either way 60's and rainy is better than 20's and icy.
I did buy them already for 2/26 (we are thinking about maybe going a 2nd time on Saturday but I don't have those tix yet). I bought them online, then they sent the tickets through the mail.

Safe travels for all who leave this wknd!! We leave tomorrow afternoon from Boston - oh, and wouldn't you know, snow is in the forecast! For the whole East Coast it will be crummy weather from teh looks of it. Oh yay We are happy to have warm weather to look forward to in 24 hours!

Yep! Luckily for us, I think the storm is starting tonight rather than tomorrow night. Still there's a chance our flight will be delayed on Saturday. I sure hope not though! :sad2:

Obsessively watching the weather here... www.easternuswx.com is to weather what disboards is to Disney.

Gack! I feeling like I should be literally running in circles! Nothing is packed. A snowstorm is coming. Our flight goes through BWI which is forecasted to get a quarter of an inch of ice. Aaaaaaaa! (runs off, bangs head on wall)

And my blessed calm family is completely untouched by this. What? Tomorrow? Oh, I'm doing something now.

I've eaten a totally unreasonable amount of food today. Maybe it's balanced out by walking in circles as I waited on hold with Disney and Southwest.

My flight is out of BWI so I completely sympathize with you. Right now they're saying it should turn to rain tomorrow night so hopefully it won't be too bad on Saturday.
