When do your kids go back to school after the holidays?

I thought most kids would be back in school on Tues. January 2nd, but I've noticed a few posters mention that their children are going back on the 8th. It surprised me.. why the 8th? :confused3

We planned our trip from Jan.2-13 to avoid some of the holiday crowds and now I'm wondering if we should have planned a later trip :blush:

We go back on Jan. 2 here. Our school system never gives us much of a break!!

i don't think it would have much of an impact on wdw (we're in california)-but more and more school districts out our way (not our school thankfully) are increasing the winter break to 3 weeks. the reason being is that our hispanic population traditionaly travels to mexico over christmas and as a result their are large amounts of kids who no show the entire first week school is back in session. the schools don't get their funding for these unauthorized absences so they figured if they restructure the school year and give the kids a 3rd week off they are financialy better off. this is very controversial in one of our neighboring towns-the parents of the non hispanic kids are VERY upset because they point out that the extra week places a real hardship on working parents who may not have the ability to take 3 full weeks vs 2 weeks off to stay home with the kids, and the local daycares can't handle (or it's insanely expensive for the parents) a huge influx of kids for just one week.

we went to wdw in january a few years back-but i think our school calendar that year had us out right before christmas so we had that week after new years off and went then. i loved it-the parks were totaly vacant.

Are schools go back on the 2nd (we are goin this week). They do not have as long a break as previous years. Before they have started the break on or around the 17th and been out through the 4th. This year the break does not start until the 21st :confused3 .... We were at WDW two years ago right after new years and it was not bad at all...not including new years day...so I think that you will be fine.....

We don't go back until 1/8/07.

I have tried to convince DH that we should be at WDW for that week, but no go yet. Since we are going to DL in February, he thinks that should hold me for awhile.

My kids go back on January 9th. Several of our friends are taking thier families either to WDW or skiing the first week in January.

We go back on the 8th. We're not out until the 22nd though so we have 2 full weeks. The poor kids were so confused at the start of the year. The school calandar says winter break starts on the 25th. I had to explain that since Christmas is on a Monday, it is the first "official" day off. Break actually starts at the end of the day on Friday the 22nd.

Our last day is Dec 15 and we go back on the 2nd of Jan.
