If you're driving and worried about lovebugs ruining your car, read this. I found Rain X for the windshiled and the car. The one for the windshield repels water and makes it hard for lovebugs to stick to your windshield. I also found a bug and tar repellant to spray on your car body. It's by Rain X also. They also have a bug and tar cleaner. Just be prepared!

We bought a Rain-X type product for our car. They're wipes for the windshield. I can't remember if they're Rain-X brand or not (threw them away). Anyway, I suggest trying any rain-repellant product out in the rain PRIOR to any long trips. I think the stuff makes it more difficult to see in the rain and I hate it. It beads the water up really small so instead of having a clear window for a brief moment after the wiper swipes it, it's immediately covered in tiny water beads, as if the wipers aren't on. Even if you're only getting it for love-bug repellant, you may end up in rain.

good luck :)

Will the lovebugs still be out in 2 weeks? We'll be down there then and if they are still swarming I need to get the Rain-X! Thanks for the tip!

i love that rain-x, great for long trips and for keeping bugs off.
many times, at highway speed, if the rainx is put on right,
i never need to turn my wipers on!
gotta look for the bug stuff for the body of the car.
I hate that!

Get them off ASAP; there is an enzyme in their bodies that is corrosive to automotive paint. It WILL damage your finish if you leave the remains on the car for more than a couple of days.

Many folks who live in lovebug country put a coat of unbuffed paste wax on their cars during swarming periods; it helps protect the paint.

Each swarm usually only lasts about a week, though they are around to some degree from early May to late fall.
