Where does everybody go to pick up groceries before they get to their room?
And what are directions to this place from the airport or from OKW?
:D

We hit Albertsons on the way from MCO. I believe it's John Roe Pkwy? Right off the parkway.

hi: we just got back last night. we prefer albertson's to publix because it's usually less crowded. it's right off exit 11 or 12 and is visible from the highway. prices seem to be comparable.

Exit 11 or 12 or WHICH parkway? John Roe parkway??

I can't think of the major road from MCO to WDW. Greenway Beeline, ??? Anyway, it is on John Roe

As I posted recently, Albertson on Orange Blossom Tr. if you are travelling from the airport.

We usually shop at Public on the Central Florida Parkway, that intersects with I drive, near Seaworld. I combine this trip with our first trip to the Premium Outlets off of Vineland. It's only a short drive further. ( could you beconfusing John Young Parkway with John Roe?)

We always stop at Albertsons off Orange Blossom exit from the Airport. It is just off the exit and one of the "Super Stores". My only complaint is the lack of Micro Beers.

There's a Publix right off of Rt 192 & International dr (turn left at Intl drive off 192 when heading East from I-4 and it is just to the right). It's about a mile east of I-4. Very close to the resorts and good prices, selections.

We get to the unit first, then shop. Not enough room on the way to OKW for groceries. We use super Wal*Mart on rte. 192.

as I read this thread I am noting the places fellow DVCers shop. However, truthfully I do not cook while on vacation ( unless you count toasted english muffins), but we still need some supplies as I travel with my DSs.....a baby and a school age child. .
I ordered everything right through VWL, faxed them my list and everything was in the refrig, freezer etc when I checked in. It was easy and great!

Associate discount, not on food not normally sold in every Wal*Mart.

I know that I'm in the minority, but we go to Gooding's. I don't cook when we are on vacation, but we do eat breakfast in and we always want snacks when we return from the parks. I know that Gooding's prices are high, but I find it very convenient to OKW and I now know the layout of the store. Also, I must admit that I get lost ALOT. Knowing my way to Gooding's is worth the $$$. I got so lost when I went to buy groceries in HH, that I was ready to call the front desk & have a CM talk me back.

Pluto,
Nope, shopped there before I became an Associate/Manager.
Just like the prices.
Now, tell me, are you and Lawgs having fun with this? :)

gail....we like the prices too....
we usually hit walmart with all the other ads.......=))...after we have checked in....
the one on rte 192 is much nicer than the one on John Young Parkway...but it is MORE crowded sometimes.....
only two more weeks and we are there again....this time .....one night at AKL (to see what it is like) and 4 nights at VWL....the other two ...well there was the 1$ deal with super 8 and we are still looking for a night some place else for the first day......
we changed our reservations so often ...we now have a "folder full of confirmations".....but we did get the 4 days we wanted at VWL after being on the waitlist for a while...

Does anyone know which of the aforementioned stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day? We arrive Thurs. afternoon and need to make a baby food, diaper, and adult beverage stop!
Happy Turkey Day to all you DVCers!
Thanks-

Nothing personal Gail, but Publix wins over Super Walmart hands down in my book.
Overall, I've been very disappointed in the grocery section of Super Walmarts. The cold cuts stink, the produce is overpriced (and, at my local store, they usually have fruitflies as an added bonus.) The two times that I made the mistake of getting fish I've had to toss it. I wouldn't recommend getting groceries from them.
I've never had a bad experience with a Publix. I've also been very impressed with the Super Target stores, but I don't know if there are any in the Orlando area.

Regnia,
I don't take it in a personal way, I have always been pleased with Super Wal*Mart, have yet to notice a fruit fly (UGH) and I rarely eat cold cuts, (just Plumrose ham) and I purchase packaged cheese. I find the meats (steak etc) at the Kissimmee one to be excellent.
Compared to the prices in CT, these are practically give aways.
I am not a fan of Publix, but, I do pick up items there if they are out of them at SW.
I guess the difference of opinions is why they have different grocery stores. :)

We go to Publix on 192!! It's quick, convenient and serves the purpose. We usually only buy breakfast items and drinks.

I had a great time!
Actually, I hit Publix, Goodings and Super Walmart. I found SWM to be extremely busy on a Sunday night. Due to the crowd, it was a huge mess. Goodings was fine, near bym didn't notice any major excess in prices, or the "so-called" smell either. Publix is a beatiful and clean store.

On a recent trip, I noticed they're building a Winn-Dixie, just down the street from Goodings. Does anyone know if it's open yet, or when it will open?

coming in late here....has anyone been to a Chamberlin's? They are supposed to be more natural foods oriented....sort of like a Whole Foods Market...and have several stores in the Orlando area. Just wondering if anyone knows the closest one to WDW...we prefer to eat organic when we can and ds has some dietary restrictions that are more easily met at a natural foods store.
Or....which of the above stores carries the best selection of organic items? My ds would be grateful for a stash of Fig Newmans and NewmanO's in our villa! Particularly when most WDW treats are off limits to him because of the artificial colors and flavors...

wow Gail, all over me already :)
Typo: meant "near by"
As for smell, I remember a couple of posts about an odor at Goodings.
2 weeks, lots of neccessities :)

There is a Chamberlins in the shopping center at Dr. Phillips Dr. and Sand Lake Road. There is also a very nice Albertson's in the same shopping center. The shopping center is about 20 minutes from WDW and reached from the Sand Lake Road exit on I-4.

Pluto,
Now you know I just had to get the "first tug" in sometime.
;)
Glad you had fun and I have never witnessed an odor at Goodings except the smell of "greed".
