Wow, I just saw it all on TV, what brilliant news.

They showed men shaving off their beards, women showing their faces and children flying kites. Everyone in Kabul seemed so happy.

This is such wonderful news, I'm so happy.

Perhaps this is the end of Bush's 'war on Afghanistan'.

I hope so. I haven't had time to watch the news, or read the paper (our semester is winding down and i got a lot of stuff goin on!!)
that would be wonderful.....however i suppose it would be too much to ask that the war in afghanistan be over!

I'm so happy for all those people! On Channel 1 (it's a news program that's shown in schools) today they were showing vans driving around blaring music and men shaving their beards and women showing their faces for the 1st time in years.:)

This is great news but you have managed to mix things up a little.

The Taliban was not overthrown...troops simply fled Kabul on their own accord.

The Taliban does not force the men to grow beards or force women to cover their faces. That is part of the Muslim religion. If women were uncovering their faces and men were shaving it is simply because of celibratory reasons.

DIsJosh-sorry but your wrong(about the women and men had to..you are right about the taliban)

they had to have beards that were 4 inches long...women had to go out in public with a male relative and if any part of a womens body showed then they were flogged on the spot(or some other bad punishment)so YES it was Taliban laws
one of my really good friends is Muslim and she said the reason that Muslim wear things is for modesty...it doesnt say in the Koran that you have to though. B/c she wears one covering her hair to school all the time.

I had some of it explained to me today, and I found out that the Taliban haven't been overthrown afterall. :( DISJosh is right, they just fled one city. This war is nowhere near over. My theory is that the Taliban are regrouping somewhere, and getting ready to fight.
It was still wonderful to see everyone in Kabul celebrating though.

Taliban do force men to grow beards and women to cover their faces. They don't even allow girls to have an education. None of these are parts of the Qur'an, they are just radical interpretations of it.

I know that Bush calls it a 'War on Terrorism', but until something more than bombing one of the poorest countries in the world is done, I won't be calling it that.

They have left the capital but they are still at large in the south of Afganistan.
