I'm not one, but I have met one once.
ONLY ONE.
She was a navy brat, someone in her family (either her parents or her sister) were in the Navy, and she herself was going to go to military school and then she was going on a Tiger Cruise in Hawaii. It was really strange to hear these things, it's just so different to how I live life over here.

yes the life of a military brat and someone who did grow up in the military is different. some ppl dont think that there is any difference except the word "military". but really how many ppl outside the military moves every 2-4 years at a time. but my family is a little ( ok very different) my sister has an illness that her eyesight is so bad that she was said to be blind but she can see but bearly.for awile we where going to another city for check ups everyother week. the first surgery cost over $90,000 so i gotta thx the military for paying that and the other 5 so yea. i for got how to spell the illness :teeth:

I'm a Navy Brat.
But not really, since my dad retired from the Navy when I was 5. lol So I've never moved around.
But yeah. Both my dad and my uncle went to the Naval Academy, and my uncle actually just retired last year after teaching at the Naval Academy for 3 years. He's been stationed in San Diego, Canada, Bahrain (it's right near Saudi Arabia), DC, and then finally teaching at the Academy.
I've been down to Annapolis and the Academy so many times, I've lost count. :)
And my grandpa was in the Air Force, and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Needless to say, I love the military. Can you guess why I'm being a history major? lol

My friends brother works for the Canadian army. I forgot about that. They move all the time. We met him when I was about 5. I remember him and his sister playing badminton outside. They were french, so back then I didn't know it. But I told my brother who is fluent in it and they became friends. It was funny to see about 50 men doing push ups practically in my back yard. They've moved to Quebec about three times, and this summer they moved away for good to Ottawa. They aren't coming back. It was one of the few times I ever saw my brother cry.

Hi
Im a grown up military brat :teeth: My dad was in the US Army, he retired a LTC. I was born in Ft Jackson SC, my brother New Jersey, my sister Coloumbus Ga. We moved every 3 to 4 yrs, one year I went to 3 different schools.. Missouri, New Jersey and then Germany. We were stationed in Germany for 4 yrs. I LOVED IT! I went away for high school to Nurnburg, since there were no high schools on our post. IT was awseome to be 15 /16 living with all your friends.. The hardest part is moving .. and not loosing touch with your friends.. :guilty: A few years ago we had a reunion and It was soo much fun to see all of our "old friends" Thanks to the internet we have "found" the old gang :) the funny thing is most of my friends married Military men/women.. except for me.. I wanted to stay put, but then again we are always traveling/camping so I guess we are still wandering the world :)
My dad was in Viet Nam for 2 tours and Korea for one,to this day I don't really know what he did while he was serving since he did alot of "spy stuff" or "classified" Once a month I take my mom to Scott AF base so she can go to the comissary and BX :)

I was a Air Force Brat and we moved every 2 1/2 years. The moving is the hardest thing and your dad being gone, I know what you are talking about...My dad was gone all the time, Korea, thailand, Veitnam, TDY all the time. We had a 3 yr Europe tour and that was great, now that I can look back on it. At the time we missed our grandparents and family terribly. There is a lot of sacrifice on the family and parents. You guys hang in there and study hard. Transferring all the time really hurt me in some respects in school. I raised my family in one place, but I do love to travel. We travel the world and that is my dream that I have been able to live. Back your Mom, give her the support that she needs, one day you will be in my place and know what I am talking about. As Military kids we get a bad rap, noone but us understand us. You keep your heads up and be proud of what your parents are doing and God Bless their Service. They are what lets me lay my head down at night, knowing I am safe.

we lived in Graf, I went to school in Vilseck (middle school) then in 10th grade I went to school in Nurnburg and lived in the dorms with kids from Amberg,Vilseck,Bamberg. It was a big high school, Sadly it's no longer a highschool, since they built a new one in Vilseck.
Graf is a training facility, near the Checz border,my dad was in the HHC 7th ATC.. funny how I can remember that and forget our phone number :teeth: When we lived there the Berlin wall was still standing and Communism was still inforced. It was really scary going to the border towns seeing the fences etc, knowing that families were seperated. My mom went back to Germany, for a visit this summer and wow has it changed :goodvibes
as for Scott AFbase things are changing, new gate entrances, redid the comissary.. oh yea that makes the shoppers happy.. not :lmao: the Bx also, expanded. Do you guys still have a youth center to hang out at? back in my day we called them the DYA (dependant youth center) we went on trips all over Europe with them, skiing in Italy, Swizterland, Germany, tours of towns etc.. I imagine they have something similar state side?

I give it up to you MOMS and Dads... I have no idea how my mom managed to stay sane while my dad was gone on his tours..I recall my mom going to hawaii to meet my dad for several weeks.. and leaving us behind with my grandparents.. oh yea that was fun :sunny: spoiled by grandparents. When she came back my brother ignored her for days.. it was worse when dad came home, now there were 2 people telling him NO etc :rotfl2:
also... that we never owned a "house" where mom could hang stuff /paint,with out getting permission from someone. ;) Heck we were not allowed to hang posters etc with out special stuff so as not to damage the walls. When we moved to Germany we had no furniture just "issued" It didn't take long before my mom was ordering stuff from catalogs to make our new home a "home"
It wasn't until dad retired that she finally got her own house and boy does she go all out on the seasons.. decorates for all the holidays.. paints all the time it's too funny..
Every time I see families on tv saying goodbye to the troops, the tears start to swell..it all flashes back.....It amazes me how much support there is out there for families now.. there are times when my mom sighs and says she wished they had that stuff for her and us... When the troops come back I cry again
My dad is burried at Jefferson Barracks, he wanted to be burried at Arlington but my mom told him NO way.. it's too far ... we go as often as we can, and yes we decorate his stone.. w balloons, flowers, flags,. for halloween we have small ghosts etc.. for christmas we leave a small tree..
sorry to get off track.. the brain just starts going if any one wants to chat feel free to Pm me :)

Buddy, I just have to tell you, there is nothing that compares to the Good Old USA!!! You may be on a barren Army Post right now but give it some time. We are not liked in a lot of places any more. I can feel the hair rising on my neck when a foreigner tries to talk down to me. It just isn't going to fly. We fight and die for them to have most of what they have. The French love to give us a hard time in the airport. I have been treated badly and I know people that have had similiar experiences. It's not the World it used to be. Get your History book our and REALLY study it. When You get on your own take some cruises and you will see what I am talking about. Go to Europe and where your ancestors came from, get a sense of your roots. You will have a true LOVE of America and the sacrifice that has made her so GREAT!!!

and im not just talking bout germany. im also talking bout ireland, iceland, scottland, but ( not to offend anyone) i just dont want to go to france.
another place i want to go to is greece i just want to get out of the US for a little bit to see other places and live like they would. it is different and i like different and if ppl have a problem with me being american it is their problem not mine.

This is big ol lineman's mom again.
I understand what y'all are saying. However, I also understand what my DS is trying to say. He wants to see different places. Truly, until you have been stationed at Goodfellow, you don't understand how dang depressing it can be. He just wants to get out and "see the world". His whole military brat life has been spent in Texas and Louisiana. That's it. When you know other "brats", and they have seen and been places, like Germany, you feel like you are missing out. Right now, my DH is in Korea. And even though it is not a garden spot, it would be nice to see where he is. We even tried for Iceland. (yes, really)
I'm not trying to be mean, I just want others to understand him a bit more. I wouldn't mind going overseas. It could be a once in a lifetime thing. He is getting ready to turn 17 and we are looking at different colleges.
Anyways, I hope y'all had a good weekend.
