On a different thread, someone mentioned this "once in a lifetime" feature. What is this ? I've never heard or read of this.

You won't find it in any printed literature! It is an unwritten, mysterious, rumored, you-didn't-read-it-here-or-anywhere-else, word-of-mouth "thing".
It is really an opportunity for DVC to provide some "magic" when a member misunderstands, misinterprets or has an emergency causing them to miss a banking deadline or some such mishap. Having nothing in writing makes it possible to deny any such program, if needed.
Some have reported that DVC has allowed members some leeway in the way points are handled and has deemed it a once per member per lifetime type of policy. If you have a problem with points which you will likely lose, call MS and see if they will help you.
Enjoy the "magic"!

We called MS last year at this time to request our "once in a lifetime" assistance with canceling and rebanking due to DH needing back surgery. They did take care of everything for us and did tell us that our file has been marked, and tht we have used this one special, non published, assistance. Without this, we would have lost over 250 points, plus the 100 BWV points that we had just purchased, with a dec use year and the 12/99 points were about to expire. They were very helpful and knew exactly what I was asking about when I called last year.

Ya know.... finding out about this mulligan is probably the most important thing I've ever read on this board. I wonder how many members know it exists.
