My DH has asked for a "full English breakfast" on Sunday during NFL football. I can make everything (beans, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, tomato - am I missing anything? :confused3 ) except fried toast which he really wants. Can anybody help me with a recipe?

Think from your description you mean fried bread. When I am making it, I put some oil in a frying pan then add the bread. Turn the bread over when the side in the oil looks like toast. Repeat again and there you have it, fried bread :thumbsup2

Frying pan of oil (extra virgin if you are doing the healthy version :rotfl2: )
Place slice of loaf into pan of hot oil. Turn when brown. When the otherside is brown place on plate and watch the rest of breakfast float on oil slick ;) Delicious :)

You could use wholemeal bread if you wanted to do the REALLY healthy, diet version ;) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You're right - I think once we've had bacon and sausages we might as well go all the way the ultimate fried bread.
All right I think we're ready to feast! :woohoo: Thanks for the help.
Yum! I hope your DH enjoys his breakfast

Oh boy...my fiancee was just here in New Hampshire about 2 weeks ago and he fried me up some bread in the bacon fat. I just heard my arteries clogging but was it YUMMY!!!
BTW: I just adore a full English breakfast! I am just glad y'all don't eat it every day...I dont think you would be walking around for long.

Definately, I think I'm at one or two times a year! It's true about the food sliding about on an oil slick though, quite disturbing really!

Definetly a treat :)
Oh dear! DS17 spent 6 weeks in the UK this spring & told me just about every morning he enjoyed 'English' breakfast! :teeth:
Thanks for the pointers, I'll have ti surprise DS one morning soon! :thumbsup2
On the whole, I do think it is much better than the black coffee & Pop-Tarts he's confessed he's been eating for morning break at his school's cafeteria!

Why is it that most of the really yummy food is also really unhealthy for us??? :(

Now if you add fried haggis and black pudding now I'm in heaven

Maybe not a good thread to read then! ;)
Think anyone on the "Dis Health Check" thread should avoid this one like the plague ;)

Just in case our colonial friends haven't heard of this english delicacy;
Take one pigs intestine and wash it out. Boil some barley and pork fat and chop finely. Mix with lots of curdled pigs blood and fill intestine. Boil in pan and eat with very runny fried egg and bread boiled in oil. Yum! :stir:

My dh is from Yorkshire and for some reason they only fry their bread on one side. I thought this was weird till I tasted it but now I am a convert! :thumbsup2

I want to thank everyone for their assistance! I think the Full English Breakfast was a success! We had 5 kids and 7 adults who all ended up quite full. They all raved over the Fried Bread. We also served Bass, Stella and Pimms.
We also served Bass, Stella and Pimms.
Glad it went well - of course in England we'd have it with a cup of tea but the pimms sounds great!

I thought a fry up was considered compulsory as part of hangover cure :goodvibes
