View Full Version : Is Anyone Else Getting Nervous About Hosting their Mini Meet?

I volunteered to host a couple of the Pin trading meets. I was thinking that it would be fun and pretty much a no brainer. Now I'm getting cold feet after reading about how many serious pin traders may be there. I have no activities planned, and although I went to the DS and bought a couple of pins for each of us. (Me and my girls) I'm feeling way out of my league here!

Any help or guidance is certainly appreciated!

Gerri,

there is no need to be nervous, both of the Pin meets you are hosting are in conjuction with DISCON Events...Tower fo terror event and the Farewell Breakfast where probably only DISCON people will be, so I don't think you will have a problem. You probably saw ~kathie's thread about 100 people at a pin meet on saturdays and panicked.

I am really looking forward to my mini-meet..I can't wait to meet all of you nice people.

Don't be nervous Gerri. You don't have to plan anything. You're the host/greeter. Once people start looking at pins, it takes care of itself. Hey, I'm hosting the GF tea and I've never done that before! I'm supposed to be a greeter of sorts and everything else takes care of itself. :D

The only thing that's bothering me about "my" mini meet is where it's going to be! For the Illuminations meet the night of the reception, we're supposed to meet somewhere on some bridge outside of Epcot, supposedly by the Boardwalk, close to where the reception was originally planned. I think Marsha told me where that was at one point, but now I can't remember. Old age catching up with me I suppose.

I'm hoping one or two extrovert-types plan on attending to help the conversation along, since I'm so terribly shy.

Yes, Steve, I remember when this was discussed, but I'm not sure that an exact answer was given or not. Not meaning to make matters worse for you Steve, (really I'm not) but I think the time may be in question as well since Illuminations isn't till about an hour later I think. Someone will need to verify that for us.

BTW, I doubt your shyness, but with Tia and me along with Glo, (and many others too) I doubt there will be much down time in conversation. Like at Whispering Canyon, I bet we'll make such a ruckus (noise and craziness) that everyone will be watching our group to see what's going to happen next, and miss Iluminations themselves. :D
Gerri

Thanks guys for your support about my nervousness.

The only thing I'm nervous about is finding a festive hat that fits. ;)

Basically, I'll meet and greet the first few people that show up on time, the rest of you will have to catch up with me 'cause I'll be running in order to fit everything in BEFORE the Buzz Lightyear Shoot Off meet with Barry. :D ;) :p

I'm a little nervous about my meets...

The Akershus meet only because I am always nervous about things like PSs! I would just die if they lost that one! I think I have checked it four times now! Also because I am shy too, I wanted to have some singles meets available for that reason. I figured that being invloved somehow would make it easier, people would have to say hi to me! *laughs*

The sinlges mini meet during the reception at Atlantic Dance is really a no brainer, really just a matter of being there so people can gather, but I had hoped to come up with something a little creative and fun to make our group special. I have creative block though! Hopefuly I will experience some lime green inspiration soon! I'm going to be lucky if I can get myself packed though!

I am not nervous- I am only doing thrill tours so that is easy. I feel sorry for Dan Murphy with that meet he has to host:smooth:

Steve, shy, I think not! ;) Any guy that would run around in a snowflake hat just can't be shy! :D I'm like Taryn, I'm the worrier: will they come?, did they loose my PS?, how will I know who is who?, what do I say?
Yes, Pat, I'd be nervous, too, if I had to host a skinny dippin' meet at the Dolphin! :earseek: :earseek:

Tia,

How about creating your own hat, festooned with key limes, or something? My festive hat doesn't fit me real well either. My head's too big (no comments from the gallery, please!). :D

I was thinking I could make a hat from home....and adorn it with a bunch of little 'ornaments'....and each one would represent something...for instance; pineapples (because I love them), a little American flag (because I love these too), a little Mickey Mouse (because I love him too), maybe a heart, a potato, an emu leg, a corn cob, some lime green ribbon, and a hibiscus (you know, Hawaii's flower). :) :) :)

But then I came to my senses and decided...H*LL NO!!! :p :p :p LOL :D

Gerri, we will be there to help you. Once people start looking at lanyards and book binders, they are on there own. You really don't have to do anything but get a space for us to sit/stand and trade.

Hey Steve,
A few extroverts...hmmmm...I think we can find you a few...let me see????

I will be there, but you know I am quiet, Marsha is planning on being there, Barb, Tia, Patrick....I think you'll have to much help...lol

Tia that sounds like a great hat!!! I dare you....lol

Nope, I am not at all nervous about co-hosting a meet...I figure...with the two other co-host involved I won't have a chance to get a word in edge wise....lol. It will be a blast though..I can't wait!!!

Worried??? You bet. I've been to the Adventurer's Club exactly ONCE and that was for 20 minutes about 8 years ago. I guess I'll just wing it. :)

You guys have nothing to worry about! You just have to smile and be nice -- and that you all know how to do. I think that the trickiest tour to host would be the resort hopping, for it requires a more complex itinerary, juggling with transportation, etc... Even then, there is so much to see and the most important thing is that we will be doing all of this together. that is the charm! I promise that I will be there, completly wide-eyed, easily pleased... I will be the one with the expression 'I can't believe that I am really here'.

BTW, i don't think I will be attending that particular Dolphin meeting:eek: I may be there with my camera though.:D :D :D :D

Smile and be nice, huh? I'll have to ask my therapist if we can work that in.......

Hi Gerri,

I hope I didn't scare you. shoes99 (Michele) is right. You just have to stand there and look gorgeous.......and don't worry, the pins will do all the work.

People just kind of spread out, open their pin books, walk around and chat and see what other people have for pins. Some people trade from their lanyards only, others have books, or bags with which to trade from.

Don't worry.......you'll be fine!

don't worry at all. Pin meets gerneally take care of themselves. You will also have the DIS CON events arounf the meet so - don't worry.
