I seem to remember someone saying that when you purchase the passes at check in, if you ask they will drop the first and last day. Is this true? And does everyone in the party have to buy a LOS pass? And as DVC'ers we get a discount? Thanks for any info.

The DVC Member discount on UMP's is 10%. They will allow us to drop first and last day from the pass. It will be encoded on the room ID. You may purchase UMP's for as many- or few- in your party as you wish.
Do the math for the UMP and figure in the "extra" benefits you will actually use (like PI, DQ, water parks). In some cases the UMP (with discount) may even be cheaper than an AP for up to 9 days. Of course the AP will win out if you will return within 12 months for more days in the parks.
Enjoy!

When we checked in at BWV, we told the CM that we wanted to drop the check-in day and keep the check out day.
They replied, "sure, no problem!" and charged us for one less day.
It was a bit embarrasing when we went to go to MGM on the last day and the CM said that our pass was no good. :(
We had to wait in the customer service line outside of the park for 20 minutes while they figured things out. It turns out that the CM at BWV did the exact opposite of what I asked for.
In the end, Disney made it right, but it's not something you want to deal with if you can avoid it. Next time, I will ask them to confirm which days were dropped and which were kept if I stray from the normal process.
While we have seen instances of DVC allowing you to knock off one day or even the front and back day from UMP, this is not the standard. I would not be concerned about getting one day off but would be concerned about getting both knocked off.
As for the passes, I was under the impression that the "official" stance was that you had buy UMP for all in the party unless the others had multi day passes of some type. I know they haven't upheld this very well but at least though that was the rule and I know we've seen multiple reports on this BBS of members being allowed to buy only what they wanted or needed.
I guess my reason for posting was that I felt it was important for the original poster to know what the possibilities were so they could posture accordingly.

We plan on checking in early on a Monday and checking out of BWV on Saturday. However, we will not want the Saturday knocked off of our LOS pass. This means we would actually be using park passes for 5 days/nights. In trying to figure out the budget, do we look at the cost of what the 5 night LOS pass (-10% discount) is or do they actually give you a different price.
Thanks,
Pam

Woops, that was a mistake in my last post. It should have read that we do want the Saturday knocked off because we have to catch an early flight. Thanks

When I called disney and got my reservations for my trip in Dec, the lady on the phone told me outright that that you could drop your first and last day on the lenght of stay pass.

Thanks for the replies, We may just drop the last day, due to the time of the flight out. But we may keep the first. Wow, less than a week to go!!

Hi, I have a UMP pass question also! We are taking friends that will be getting UMP and the guys will be playing golf our last day, so can one person drop the last day and the other keep the last day? If not, I was just going to have the girl that needs the last day to buy a one day pass, but it would be easier to have it as UMP. Also, can we get a 1 day pass at the resort or will we have to buy it at the park?
thanks for the help!

We've also been trying to figure out the best way to go. We arrive late on Sunday and have to leave early Saturday (thanks to United's juggling our schedule around). Anybody know what the adult LOS/UMP would be if we dropped the first day (Sunday) and the last (Saturday)?
Thanks

That would be $263.96 minus the 10% DVC discount.
Here is a link to <a href="http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/tickets.htm#UMP%20Prices%20for%202001">Ticket Prices</a>.
They will not combine discounts- so it's either the 10% DVC or the 5% DC.
They have been very good about offering to drop 1st and last days- I've done it twice this year with our guests. They asked on both occasions if we wanted the 1st/last days. They also told us that our whole group did NOT need to buy the passes- just those who wanted them. I think this was also stated in a DVC publication, but can't find the reference now.
Enjoy!

in the past few years on a couple of occasions we've purchase umps for part of our group. THey have let us drop at least one day.
The only stipulation we've ever been given is that we must do the same for all that we buy and all must be purchased at the same time. THey have let us purchase the day after arrival at least once- so that everyone could figure out what they wanted to do as we arrived late at night. We did NOT have to purchase for everyone in the group.

Thanks Doc. I didn't realize that DIS had a ticket page. As always, the folks on this board know everything there is to know Disney.
