on your credit card when you rent a car?

I have a limited line of credit and I don't want it all tied up with the car rental.

I'm renting a car from Budget and I'll be paying cash but do I still have to secure a certain amont of money on my charge card? Anyone know how much?

Thanks.

I believe it's the amount of the rental, or $250, which ever is greater. I definately know they will hold the amount of the rental though.

You will need to check w/ your credit card company, but you might be able to pay extra on your card. Example: You have a credit limit of $500, you might be able to send the cc company $100. Effectively giving you a "credit" line of $600.

Good luck!

It wouldn't hurt to call the car rental company and verify. I believe it is usually several hundred dollars.

I think they attempt to take a hold based on what they think the charges will be. For example if the rental car quote is $300 then they hold 350 or so... I know that is how hotels do it! I think they can hold more depending on your car type also.
