anyone with experience buying delta tickets for april vacation

Whats the deal with airplane tickets around April vacation week? My son is on vacation april 14-20 and Id love to take the 2 of us to FL and stay with Nana. when do they get sold out? Would it be any cheaper flying the fri before or returning the mon after? when do i need to book by?

We purchased our tickets through Delta.com for next May. We got a rate of $146.00. I just keep looking for a good rate. You have to look about everyday and a couple times during the day. They go up and down.

I'm with Megansmom, keep checking, twice a day.
I got our tickets in August, $94RT out of Houston, changing planes in Dallas or Atlanta, for the last week of April. I originally wanted a non-stop out of Dallas that was $110, but by the time I got DH's okay and got back to Orbitz 12 hours later, the fare was $224. The next day, the other fare appeared; it was gone by the next morning. We're a 3 hour drive from DFW and 3.5 from IAH, so I always check both.
Use the Orbitz "deal" tab to explore different day combinations and airports within 50-100 miles of your first choice. When I find the flight times/price I want, then I go to Delta.com to buy.
