Thanks everyone who replied to my post. I took all your opinions, and ordered both the Tonga Toast and Pineapple Macadamian Nut pancakes. Also, I had a pot of Kona Press Pot coffee, a Mimosa, and DD had a strawberry banana smoothie. She tried both the french toast and pancakes... (they had pieces of nuts, and she for some reason has decided recently she does not like nuts). She also ate the bacon from both meals.... (can you say SODIUM?)

Our ADR was for 10:30, we arrived about 10:05, and parked in valet... no JESSIE today - he's the "hunky (in my opinion) valet attendant that I hope to see each time I pull up to the Poly, and I actually had to WAIT for someone to come to my car.... not sure what the one gentleman was thinking just standing there, but this has never happened before at Polys valet to me! We proceeded upstairs and checked in at 10:13. They asked if we would give them 5 minutes... no problem we wanted to go the the gift shop (even though were not on vacation... we still like to shop!) We were barely in the shop, when we were beaconed by the flashing vibrating contraption!

We were quickley seated, and then...... we waited..... servers walked by, the lady with the little pad that keeps track of the tables walked by, more servers walked by... but no one stopped at our table... I looked at the paper they left with us... it stated 'Not assigned to any station" - now I've never worked as a server, but that sure sounded to me like our table was not assigned to ANY one. I stopped the lady with the little pad thing, and she quickly went and found our server. "I am so sorry for your wait, they asked me to cover this table and I forgot!) Okay - I forgive you, I want my Tonga Toast.

Our beverages were brought promptly, and our food followed shortly after. We were brought extra plates as I said we were going to share! Gave DD the bacon, and a pancake, and a few pieces of Tonga Toast. I think took a 1/2 pancake and about 1/2 of the Tonga for my plate. They were both to die for. The Tonga Toast really stands on it's own - does not need syrup. It is very rich and very sweet! It is a pretty large piece of "french toast" for as rich as it is! The pancakes came with three BIG pancakes and a large scoop of macadamia nut butter mixed with pineapple sauce. (Again can you say RICH?) The pancakes contained small bits of macadamia nuts. I used only this "sauce" on my pancake.

The pressed pot of coffee was heavenly. I love coffee, but am no expert, but this had to be one of the best tasting cups of coffee I have ever had. I might have to get "me" on of those contraptions. DD liked her smoothie, and of course the Mimosa was good. They always make it feel like a special occasion!

I enjoyed the relaxed atmospehere of Kona. I LOVE character breakfasts, but this was just a nice relaxing time for DD and I to chat about "whatever" she wanted to chat about.... Maybe due to the later ADR, but the restaurant was not jammed packed which again was nice.

In all the meal was a little pricey for a Saturday morning breakfast adventure.... but 1/2 was the beverages. The total was $39 and some change, with my 20% DDE discount it was not quite so bad.... . (Not to mention the $$$ we spent in the gift shop!) Tara also had fun trading pins with the CMs in the stores.

We then watched the Hawaiian (Polynesian?) dancers practice downstairs. We had seen them perform one other Saturday were were there for breakfast at Ohanas, and they are enjoyable to watch. I love that there are young children to older (senior) aged woman of all sizes dancing! It really is a wonderful art form!

After we were done exploring the Poly for the day... making us anticipate our one night stay there in October..... we were off to play mini golf at Fantasia.

Here are some photos!

OMG!!!! The pineapple macademia nut pancakes are to die for, I had them for the first time last trip. We are big Tonga Toast fans and last trip I decided to try the pancakes and we split an order of Tonga Toast. The macademia nut butter was UNBELIEVABLE!!! I got extra. Share the Toast don't share the pancakes

It's just me and DD and I don't know if she will like either of them, but at this point I am pretty convinced I have to try both, maybe she will decide she likes them. She's getting Goofy Toast I think - so not a real big deal. Still a pretty reasonable b-fast at Disney since we normally do character breakfasts!!!

I can't wait until tomorrow morning, I wish I had made it earlier than 10:30 now!

I will put the cooler in the car, and maybe I can doggie bag some of it... if I separate it out right away.... so it doesn't get mushy from syrup/butter/etc.

I am thinking way too much about this breakfast!!! Are we there yet?

The pineapple pancakes...usually my dh2b gets the toast and I get the pancakes and we share...best of both worlds!

I said who do you think is going to eat all this food and his answer was, we are on vacation and I want to try them both! I hope he doesnt plan on ordering 2 entrees at every meal ha ha.

I hope you have a great trip!

DD and I are lucky enough to live close by to WDW!!! This is the first time we have gone "out to breakfast" without it being a character meal... sort of like heading down the street to IHOP!!!!

I will get both!

I was hoping ALLEARS (http://www.allearsnet.com/din/rec.htm) (http://www.allearsnet.com/din/rec.htm) would) would the pancake recipe - but all I see is the Tonga Toast

Ingredients:

2 or 4 slices sourdough bread, cut 1 to 1 1/2 inches thick
1 banana
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
oil or shortening for frying
whipped butter and/or syrup

Method:

Cut a 1-inch pocket in one side of each bread slice. Cut banana in half crosswise, then split each piece lengthwise. Remove peel and stuff two pieces of fruit in each pocket of bread; set aside. Mix sugar and cinnamon; set aside. Mix together well the egg, milk and vanilla.

Heat about 4 inches of oil in a pan to 350º F. Dip stuffed bread into egg/milk mixture and let it soak a few seconds to let penetrate bread. Fry bread on both sides in hot oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels or wire rack. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve.

Unless they offer coconut syrup for the pancakes (if you have never tried it, you MUST!) I would get the Tonga Toast... slathered in butter... forget the syrup... oh, and maybe a piece of fruit for balance :rotfl2:

I went to Kona Cafe for Breakfast all by my lonesome in Dec (DH was on the golf course), and was undecided about what to have, so I asked the waitress and she said "Ma'am you can get eggs benedict anywhere (My other consideration) but Tonga Toast has been on our menu for 35 years", so I ordered it, I was NOT disappointed. It was great...of course I could only eat about 1/2 of it...and it was worth every calorie.

Eggs Benedict is my all time favorite breakfast meal, but as the CM said, you can get it anywhere, and I make a pretty good one myself......

10 hours to breakfast!!!! LOL!

LOL! We're from Cheektowaga/Depew! I went to Depew High School (eons ago) and DH went to Maryvale (even MORE eons ago). I grew up in the French & Borden area. How about you?

I've just been reading the breakfast menu from Kona and I'd say YES, we must eat there. Hope I can still get an ADR. It would be for 7 weeks from today!

Hope you enjoy your Kona breakfast AND your anniversary trip! :goodvibes

I have updated post #1 with my review! Before I saw your response I thought to myself.... (no one else here will listen!).. if I were vacationing here.... this would be a great place to end the trip. Not too much hustle and bustle before the long journey home!

I give it two thumbs up..... and will return again - but unless there is another adult with me - I will only be ordering ONE BREAKFAST!

Martha~ Thanks so much for letting us have breakfast with you...its was wonderful.

My goodness - I wish you all would have eaten more. I left sooo much food on the table, but we weren't coming right home, and I forgot the cooler with ice! I could have eaten those pancakes and Tonga Toast for a little snack.

I need to get one of those little coolers that you can plug into the ciggy lighter in the car for our day trips.... so we can have cold water waiting in the car, and for situations like these! I''m just never organized enough to remember to get the cooler ready!

Luckily I could get a to go cup for the coffee - it would have been a real waste to have the left as well!

oh my.. I want some NOW. We had a version of Tonga Toast when we did the AKL breakfast safari at the Tusker House. The chef prepares a buffet meal for us beforehand and he did a verson of the Kona tonga Toast. However, his version used dark brown sugar. The Tonga Toast one looks soo good too. We're going to try the recipe that's in the Disney cookbook.... we'll have to see if it's anything like the real thing.

That's to the OP for the great pics.

Thanks for the review. I love Kona CAfe  Its our favorite in all of WDW at the moment.

Next time I go I have to have a Mimosa too. I have never had the pressed pot coffee before. Big difference from the regular Kona Coffee?

Thanks again

Oh, and did I mention that I am so jealous of how close you live to the WDW :rotfl:

Have a great trip in October

Perfect timing on the review. We were looking for another breakfast place and you sold us on Kona. We love coffee so that is a big selling point.
