Okay, it may be a tiny bit of wishful thinking and I may have to change the subject of the thread several times. But, I'm in. DCL, are you listening? :confused3 Send the ship and I'll send money!

I'm in too! My only Alaska "cruise" was on the ferry from Juneau to Skagway to Anchorage. Not much luxury there.

My DH & I are celebrating 20years in 2008. We ARE going to Alaska. I would absolutely love to do it on a Disney Cruise. Unfortunately, I don't know if I could do it without the kids. We were planning on doing HAL by ourselves but if Disney is going, the kids are to. Please, Please, Please go to Alaska.

Yes, yes, YES!!! I had planned to do an Alaskan cruise summer of 2007 and then changed my mind since Disney is doing the Med cruise then. I am currently booked on that, so figured Alaska would have to wait until 2008. If DCL goes, there -- count me in!!!

I would prefer to leave from Seattle because I think the airfare would be cheaper than it would be if the cruise left from Vancouver. Of course, leaving from LA, a quick trip to DL could be included. If DCL decides to do longer cruises, that might be a possibility.

Not sure what port they would leave from. But, I would suspect that Vancouver would be in there somewhere to satisfy the foreign port requirement. I don't expect to see anything out of the ordinary in any of their port choices, actually. But, I would certainly not be opposed to getting off of the beaten track! I would guess Vancouver, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Icy Strait or Sitka with a hubbard glacier flyby. I honestly don't know what other options are at their disposal. I would guess that they would need to add a couple of days to leave from LA or San Fran.

I'm not too sure I care where they stop. I've been to most of those ports anyway. There is plenty left for me to do in any of them!

Oh, and if they DO make it for '08 - that'll be a 15 year anniversary! :Pinkbounc

For Pete's sake, we're not cruisin' in January and we aren't going to the south pole! It's Summer! Granted, it's not summer in Phoenix. But, it's not THAT cold! You're probably looking at temperatures in the 50's, 60's, and possibly even low 70's. You probably don't want to be wearing a bikini at night (those 3 or 4 hours) though. OH, and it MIGHT be a LITTLE bit cooler when you get near a glacier :)

Check out the excursions for one of the other cruise lines - there are tons of cool (pun intended) things to do. And where else are you going to buy an Ulu knife? :rotfl2:

:wave2:

It may be ignorance on my part, but what is missing that would TOTALLY dismiss taking the Magic to Alaska? I've not checked for heaters in the staterooms - that could do it. Covered pools? Don't need them - they are heated and it's summer. The kids won't care anyway. They could stand another hot tub or two, though ;) Ship construction? I'm sure it's built soundly enough to sail the inside passage. Too big/small? There are smaller and larger and less maneuverable ships sailing Alaska.

Everything I read says the Magic is just not built to cruise Alaska....or any other cold port.

I've read that a bunch, too. But, I don't buy it. It's a ship. It floats. We're not going to Antarctica. It's SOUTHeast Alaska in the summer. It could be 80 or more degrees, though 55-75 are more likely highs. Okay, you might not want to be in the pool while you're cruising Hubbard glacier. But, Alaska is so port intensive, that the pools aren't that important anyway. Is Radiance of the Seas better suited for Alaska? Maybe a little, but it's not the Magic. :)

.......scuuuuse me - but - as I do not put toe into water without a wetsuit until after May 30, may I suggest "I don't think so". Heated or not, emerging from the pool when icicles are forming is not my(!!!!) idea of fun.....and the wetsuit would look a little funny - don't 'cha think.......

Now, if we replace the pools with ice skating rinks, perhaps.

You know they wear wool sweaters in Alaska.......OK, I wear wool sweaters in Alaska and that is in July!!!!

The pools not being covered does not make the Magic incapable of traveling to Alaska. It may keep you from getting in them. It's a heated pool! And how is it going to freeze when it's 55-75 degrees outside? Yes, it will be colder than that the ONE day when you are cruising through Glacier Bay (assuming they go there). I like the pool as much as the next guy. But, that is NOT even remotely important to me on an Alaskan cruise. The food, excursions, and other activities will MORE than make up for not being perfect swimming weather. There are so many other things to do on the ship, I'm not sure I would not miss the pools a bit. Maybe they should just add a few more beer tastings? Then you might get in the pool :rotfl2:

I've been swimming in a heated pool (in UT) when it was snowing. If the water is warm, you are too.

And, yes, you might look a little funny climbing into the pool in your wetsuit and a wool sweater. :rotfl2:

Oh, and I have also worn wool sweaters in Alaska. I have also worn T-shirts and wished I had taken shorts with me...

:rotfl2: That is TOO funny about the iceburgs.

As far as excursions go, how 'bout a Misty Fjords Boat & Floatplane Wilderness Adventure? Halibut fishing. How 'bout Snorkeling or scuba diving (Barkley's DH did this)? How 'bout some King Salmon fishing? Sea Kayaking? Ropes & Ziplines? Halibut fishing. Rainforest canopy ziplines? King Salmon fishing? SUV excursions? Jet boat tours? King Salmon fishing? Whale watching? That's SOME of the stuff RCCL offers in Ketchikan... Lots of ice to look at, hike, and climb on. Beatiful country, bears and other critters. Halibut fishing. There is no end to the amount of money you can spend!

Will you look it dat! Mice and Princesses in the snow? Who would have figured? At least some of the characters will see considerable insulation being in costume! And just think of the nes merchandising opportunitiies! Ohhhh, what fun!

Seriously, sign us on! Can I be Captain? And if not truly as captain of the ship, then can I at least start signing up souls for a Mickey Ice Cream Eating Race while embarked on the voyage? Like, when again am I going to be able to say you can compete and NOT be at risk of getting a freeze headache since it'll already be so cold!? As I'll move the contest to be pool side on deck 10... at nite?!!!! LOL! OK, we;ll keep it inside in the cozy Promenade lounge!

So on ground diversions - my cash is going towards the previously unmentioned heli-tour and dog sleding option!

Cheers!

If Disney goes to Alsaka - perhaps (don't kick me) 2009 -

And they'll just stay in the Caribbean doing 3,4, & 7 day cruises for their 10 year anniversary? You could be right. However, 2 trips outside the Caribbean isn't much of a pattern. And, as I have previously stated, I don't care that much. I will simply change the title of the thread :thumbsup2

In any case, we'll know soon if something is up when they release the 2008 dates! If there is a big gap in the summer schedule, we'll know ... well, nothing really. Just that they have something special planned, I guess. Then we'll probably get to wait until May again to find out what it is....

If they DO announce Alaska (or some other special cruise) for 2008, what is that going to do to your "do-over" cruise? I don't know if I could keep up with that thread!

I couldn't buy a clue! I REALLY don't have ANY idea what they are doing or going to be doing. But, I really think there are too many rumors about Alaska for it not to be true - in the next few years, anyway. Maybe it won't be 2008, or even 2009. But, I would like to be there when it does!

If they do the west coast, they'll only be able to hit Castaway Cay on the repo cruises. But, didn't you hear? Disney is going to buy Catalina island! :rotfl2: Just kidding! That's just part of the new ships & west coast base rumor I'm starting ;)

I've heard the same about the 10 day cruise. I really liked the iternary on the 10 & 11 day cruises - but no way would I risk that in the middle of Sept either! It might be easier with that Fla rate, though ;)

LOL Yeah, I've been keeping up with it. I love the rumor threads. Which part of that thread are you referring to? The OP making things up :stir: ? The great information on ship building? The bickering? I wish they would have moved the discussion back to the thread that the OP copped the idea from - which was the miceage article (http://miceage.com/allutz/al091206a.htm) thread - the one that reported Jay Rasulo as saying a west coast based ship would happen "sooner rather than later".

I don't think there is any way they can get a new ship floating before 2011 or 2012 - unless they bought an existing hull. I don't think there is a secret shipbuilding yard capable of building a ship of that size without everyone noticing. And there is no way Disney could hide that amount of money from stockholders (for more than 3 months, anyway). And I don't think they would be scouting out ports, as has been reported, for cruises in 2012. So, I still think something is up for much sooner than 2012.

Whomever originated the Disney Dreams name - and I'm sure that was YEARS ago - did a great job. I think it's perfect.

We were on the recent Sept 7th cruise and booked another cruise for 2007.At that time I asked shannon bradley the cruise lines on board travel agent . She said she expected 2008 to be released late Sept-early Oct. Then she added she thought at that time it would be only a partial schedual available to book. Which leads me to think perhaps there is something special planned for the summer of 2008.

We're going to Alaska in June 2007 with Princess! I first booked DCL to the Mediterranean for 2007, but that lasted all of a week!

IF DCL were to cruise to Alaska (and I don't think it would be in 2008), they would probably sail roundtrip from Seattle or Vancouver. I doubt DCL would do one-way cruises between Vancouver and Seward/Whittier. If the ship left from Seattle, it would probably stop in Victoria or Prince Rupert Island to satisfy the "foreign port" requirement. Other probable ports would be Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, and either Hubbard Glacier or Tracy Arm Fjord as the glacier. I doubt DCL would be able to get a permit to sail to Glacier Bay.

As much as adults would enjoy Alaska, I don't see it as a destination for families with really young kids.

No announcements have been made at all! It's strictly DISboards sleuthing! The thread with the evidence is on the main board at http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1316427 and it rather strongly suggests that the Magic will spend the summer of 2008 doing 7 day Mexican Riviera cruises.

Al Lutz' column on MiceAge today mentions a press event for Jan 24th at DL to announce the Summer '08 itinerary and the new ship!

From http://miceage.com/allutz/al010907a.htm
The other big announcement to be made is that the Disney Cruise Line will be returning to the West Coast for the summer of 2008. A third ship in the Disney fleet has been contracted out of an Italian shipyard, but it won't be here in '08. They'll borrow one of the existing boats from Florida for that summer while they wait for the new boat that is purpose built for West Coast waters to arrive at the end of the decade. TDA would like to run cruises to the Mexican Riviera in winter, and up to British Columbia and Alaska in summer. But those types of itineraries require a different type of ship with different types of weather protection and amenities than the fair weather Disney Magic and Wonder are equipped with.

We did the Alaska cruise on RCCL and the scenery is amazing - being on a Disney ship would make the whole trip that much better! We are soooooo in!

Starting to think, that if, DCL does Alaska, it will be on the Wonder.

Will wait and see..:confused3

Plus a couple of comments made by Brent on the ship last week, have me thinking they may..:confused3

Why Magic in Dry dock now, no roof..

Wonder goes into DD next year, could add the roof then...

Will wait and see..:confused3
