I called today & spoke to a CM. She said that if the castle is to be tarped they only do it when they are painting the castle. As well if they tarp the castle it will be on the refurbish list. She said they are only taking down the decorations and it will not be tarped at all.

I am so glad to hear this!!! I was really disappointed when I read it would be tarped. As a WDW vet, seeing the castle is one of the most magical moments and I was looking forward to seeing the original castle. In the Magic Kingdom it seems they are always doing something to it. When we were there in 2005 they were fixing it up with different golden adornments, but just blocking off small sections, so you could still see it and take great pixs from various angles. That must have been the decorations for the 50th, now that I think of it! Deb

Glad it won't be tarped for those of you visiting when the 50th stuff is due to come down. I was so disappointed when we went in 2004 as it was completely tarped during preparation for the 50th. SO glad I got to see it during the 50th and just that I got to be there during the biggest celebration is Disney history. I cannot wait 'til the 100th!!!!! :thumbsup2

Thank you, thank you, thank you for actually calling and finding out! I have been seriously bummed out ever since I read that it was being tarped! I HATED coming on here and posting that, but I did want people to be prepared before their trip. Thanks again! :thumbsup2

To remove the shashes and the crowns I don't think they will need to tarp anything off.
But some in-park maintenance tech CMs have said some painting (to take off some of super-glittery shine) and some cosmetic work will have to be done on Sleeping Beauty Castle around the time the extra decorations are removed. Specifically facilities has to fix the dent in the castle that happened on May 4th 2004 when a crane placing one of the crowns bumped the Castle and dented the fiberglass.
I know the decor is coming down in October, but the painting and repair to the Castle is also going to have to happen soon. :confused3

According to miceage, they will be repainting the castle. So, I would be prepared to have tarps over it sometime soon. The problem with asking random cm's, is that if you ask 10, you'll get 10 different answers! Doesnt matter the subject, they all will tell you something different. Miceage and Mouseplant both have some "ins" and seem to get and post pretty reliable info.

I read that too on MiceAge... I'm hoping they'll be done for our trip in November. I just can't imagine being at DL and not getting to see the castle! :guilty:
