Wicked in Chicago meet-11/4/06

Good afternoon!
I am putting together a Chicago DIS meet to go see Wicked on Saturday, November 4th for the 2pm showing at the Ford theatre. We will meet up somewhere nearby (TBD) to have lunch at around 11:45, eat and head over to the theatre for the 2pm show.

I currently have 14 people signed up and have a reservation block for 20. So the first 6 people get tickets!! Families are welcome, but keep in mind that the show may not be appropriate for very small children.

**Tickets are 37$ each (that includes all taxes) payable to me via check in advance (no later than September 30th) :teeth: PM me for my address to send the check. Please put your phone number on the check so that I have a way of contacting you on the day of the show. I will mail your ticket to you when I've received your check. Late payments may result in releasing your seats. **

I am paying for the tickets on the 11th of September. I will post the confirmation when I receive them.

Is The Ford Theater where The Lion King was? I walked there from the train and was wondering if I can do the same thing this time.

I'm not sure if this is where the Lion King was, but I know its pretty easy to walk to from the Metra Electric lines and the CTA train lines. Its a little farther from Olgilvie Metra line, but still not too long of a walk.

Is The Ford Theater where The Lion King was? I walked there from the train and was wondering if I can do the same thing this time.
Paint, not sure if this was where Lion King was, but I know that the train station at Mich/Randolph is only a couple blocks east of the theatre. I am planning on taking the train with my DD if DH won't drive us and walking the couple blocks.

We would take a train to Union Station, then take the 151 Bus from Union Station to State Street - it is on the corner, catty corner from Marshal Fields store - which becomes Macy's on Friday!!

(depending on the dates you usually can get a great room on Priceline too!! Usually the Hyatt goes for around $50 a night - unless there's a convention! - they dont have an indoor pool tho! )

DH is in a meeting - but dd is excited, and since I read someone else was bringing a dd - we went to see the Ballet of Sleeping Beauty at the Chicago Theatre - it is around the corner from the Wicked Theatre...

My girlfriend went as a chaperone for the high school group, and while the seats do seem high, she loved it, and wouldnt hesitate to go again -

Also, in the basement of Marshal Fields is a "food court" lots of seating that moves around, salads...etc...

Short rant: I really have come to despise Broadway in Chicago group sales. They are completely non user-friendly, and everytime I call I get someone who needs a serious attitude adjustment. They refuse to accept credit cards at all, so I had to pay via check from my bank account. Can we say OUCH!? Not only does it come out all at once, but I don't get my Disney points! :( and of course they treated me like a complete idiot for even asking, although it says nothing to the effect on the contract I recieved. Come on people- get with the program. I don't think I'll ever pla anything through group sales ever again. I'll just have 2 groups of 19 and go through ticketmaster or something. Group sales is not worth the hassle.

Has the Walnut room changed?

Is there still a food court type area in the basement of formely known as Fields? That's a great close place to grab some food (The place formerly known as Field's that is - the walnut room, anything...)

I'm debating on getting a room and making a nice weekend of it!!

I was thinking walnut room because its nice-not too expensive, and its historical landmark which makes it cool. Its also right next door. If everyone is in let me know and I'll make a ressie. I don't think its changed-at least I hope not!

I'm not sure if this applicable to all year long, but last holiday season I tried to make a ressie there and they said they don't take them. It's first come first served. Maybe that was just for the holidays. They used to have the Walnut Room's phone number on the Field's web site. Don't know if that has changed either since the buy out?

Is there some place less formal that anyone has considered, just in case?

I called today and alas they do not take reservations beginning Nov. 1. How about the Marketplace in Fields? The one next to the Frango mints. Is that in the basement? The prices are reasonable and its a lot less stressful as far as planning goes. Everyone can get what they want and sit where they want, no reservations. What do you think?

There really aren't too many places to eat around the area that aren't fast food-most of the rest are upscale and probably not family-oriented.

from what I can gather it is open-there is also a food court on the 7th floor.
So lets plan on meeting in the basement of Fields (now Macy's) on State and Randolph around noon. Then we'll walk to the theatre which is very close afterwards

I know I have been MIA on the Chicago thread, with school and all, but I can't wait to see you guys at Wicked. We are going to Italian Village instead, though. My best friend is coming up from Central IL, and she has only been to Chicago once. This is also a belated 30th bday celebration for her, so we are going to IV instead. Have fun at Macy's, and we will see you at the theater!

this gives us some info on the characters - DD 10 is coming, and I remember when we took our boys when they were younger, giving them background info helped them enjoy the experience...

are any people even planning on going to the Macy's lunch thing? I'll admit its not my first choice either and my friend has never been to chicago but because of the size of the group I could not accommodate a sit down place. If no one wants to go we can just all eat lunch where we want to and meet up at the theatre..

I'm excited that you gave so much of yourself to put this meet together - :goodvibes I put an internet message board "gathering" together (it was a realty tv message board - I posted anyone want to come to Chicago in the spring? Next thing I knew 30 people signed up, so I gathered everyone in one hotel, and made dinner ressises - and it wasnt easy... we ate at the Rock Bottom I think - a brew pub near the hotel - and then of course the German Restaruant that is now closed!! (dagnabit!!) and a CUBS game!

But it was so stressful for me - people coming - posting, not coming, not posting... so hard to plan!!

as for not coming into Macy's... well you could enter through the basement pedway, and he wouldnt even realize it was Macy's!! :rotfl2:

If no one wants to commit to you Mindy (except for me!! ;) ) then just post - everyone on their own for lunch...

Its too bad - I was looking forward to meeting Dis members, and WICKED too!! I was going to ask about that suite VIP service they have, but its $30 a person... when I win that lottery!!! :teeth:

Hi everyone! So excited for this weekend! I have a couple questions, though.I noticed the two tickets you sent me are not in succession-321 and 323. Is that a mistake? Also, Michele got stuck with some extras, bc someone backed out. I bought one. Do you think we will be able to switch around once we get there? I don't care where we sit, I would just like to be together.
Also, we are going to have to skip lunch. Our train comes in at 12:30, so we will hustle on over to the theater.

Kellie and I will meet you at Macy's food court. Hopefully they will have something that a picky 8 year old will eat. I thought I'd bring my recent pix from the trip. If other people would to, we could look at everyone's trip pix over lunch. I plan to catch the 9:56am train from home which should get us downtown at 10:54 and then walk the 2 blocks over. DD very excited. Does anyone know what time the show ends? Have a b-day party to go to that evening if we will get back in time.

For those that don't know everyone, maybe we should agree to all meet outside of the theatre, not inside where things can get crazy and loud. Maybe meet to the left of the theatre doors.

The running time may seem long, but the pace of the play really moves along quickly.
And IMO I think the intermissions are longer than that.
When we went and we had Suite Service, we had enough time to go downstairs, use the restroom, eat desserts and chit chat before it was time to return to our seats. :goodvibes

Oops! Havn't been online in a while- computers down at home. Got my tickets!These are the same seats we had last year (went with our girl scouts)! It was extremly warm inside the theatre. The show was great. I am bringing my dd(10). We will try to make it to lunch at Macys.

noon is the lunch, but we have a good 2 hours there and the theatre is right accross the street so don't knock yourself out getting there exactly on time.

Mindy, we left for the train this morning at 8:30AM, since no one posted, it seemed like people had made other plans. I wandered around the food court. Made dh and dd stand at the "entrance" by the book store... and looked...pathetic...

So we moved up to the 7th floor - there was another food court - more seating, and quieter. (dh is hard of hearing and the basement food court, he couldnt hear anything)

I wish I could've met and talked with you, all of you!! I posted my report on the CB Chicago thread...

Thank you so much Mindy for giving us the opportunity - for Wicked!! I truly appreciate it, it was so memorable!!!
