Another thread got me thinking, has anyone every had such horrendous service while on the DP that they requested that the 18% be removed? I'd never in a million years try to gyp a good waiter, and I'm not one to ask for a free meal if the server is at fault (though I have once when the food was inedible, not at Disney), but if the server is just attrocious I'd like to know if diners do have the unadvertised option of withholding the tip, even if it takes a manager's permission.

We had this happen to us once. It was a couple years ago at the Trails End buffet. It was the worst experiance I have ever had ever. We had to wait for drinks which were never re-filled, never cleared the table, server was just rude and acted as if we were a bother. And we paid out of pocket. It was a couple years ago. I wondered if she treated us this way knowing she was getting a tip. (Have been back since and all is well) We were charged the 18% because my size of family. It is silly though because my kids are young. It is the only time I have ever complained and the manager took off the tip. We still left her money but not as much. I only hope she was having a bad day. Last Oct we left more then 18% at most places and we were on the DD. So, I guess the answer to your question is yes.
