How long will the LA Zoo take?

I've heard that the San Diego zoo is one of the best but unfortunately we won't have enough time in San Diego to visit their zoo.

We were thinking of visiting the LA zoo instead and wanted to know how many hours we should set aside for it? Is it an all day thing? Half day thing? What's your advice?

Unless it's a day when they have some special bonus going (like Halloween Haunt or something), a half day is fine. We once did the Zoo and Universal all in one day.......but Universal was open quite late that day so it was no problem getting there at 2pm. They're about a 15 minute drive from each other, by the way.

If you're at all interested in the Wild West (boys 8-13 in your party?)....then the Will Rogers Museum is walking distance from the zoo and is really quite surprisingly fun. Good lunch cafe there, too.

It's the Gene Autry Museum. Will Rogers has a park somewhere.
