Friday morning Gary (my fiance) goes into work and tells him they no longer require his services and that he is being made redundant with immediate effect. :sad2: Felt so so sorry for him it was totally out of the Blue and he hadnt been there long enought to get any sort of pay off! He gets paid his months notice and thats it. Not good timing with the wedidng in less than 4 months.

Then Saturday Morning we got the survey results back from the house we are "hopefully" buying. The survey showed that there is an old disconnected oil boiler - which knew knew about and were going to remove - problem is as the house was built in the 70's the flue for the boiler is Asbestos! Which according to the survey must be removed asap!
Im so annoyed - my parents used to live in a house in the area and therefore i knew that there could be asbestos in the property and before putting an offer in i specifically asked if there was any present in this property and they said there wasnt! I dont know anything about Asbestos or its removal but im guessing this may cost a pretty penny so it looks like i'll have to bargain a bit on the price or drop out of the sale and lose the £1000 in survey fees, solicitors fees etc etc.

Oh Well they say things happen in 3's....whats next i wonder!!

Laura, sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. Don't give up on your house. Hopefully getting the asbestos removed won't be too costly. My sister (who has gone away on holiday or I would ask her about the cost) had to have a shed removed when she moved into her house and I don't remember her saying too much about the cost.

Hope your fiance has got over the shock of being made redundant and there is no number 3

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, Laura. I was made redundant suddenly a few years ago (incidentally just as we were buying our house) so I know what a nasty shock it can be. I hope Gary is able to find a new job very soon and that the house can be sorted out without too many problems :grouphug:

With regards to the house, I would be tempted to ask them to reduce the price slightly or remove the Asbestos at their expense or you'll pull out. Maybe a bit risky but they did say there was none prior to your offer.
