Now Airlines have banned hand luggage from flights except for the bear essentials I just wanted to make UK bridea aware of this. I would suggest that you call your Airline/Travel Agent to check if you can still take your dress on board the aircraft and if not how they can transport it without it getting ruined.

From what i understood most airlines policy was to always put the sress in the hold. However i think alot of the time when you turn up at check in most were lenient and let you carry it on as hand luggage although not always.
Personally i think im just going to Fed Ex my dress straight to Carolyn Allens - atleast then i know its there safely!

Thats a great idea Laura :)
I packed mine into a hard shell case labelled very clearly! and checked it into the hold. No probs. I must admit I was nervous - and SO relieved when I saw it coming around the carousel in MCO. :bitelip:

I guess they made the decision for me. I was a little concerned about carry on anyway. Just the fact that I could have it nicely draped over a chair in airport and some careless idiot trips and spills a coffee or drags a chair onto it. Would be fine if you went straight to the plane but we have connections to deal with also.

I checked mine into the hold. I told the lady at check in that it was my wedding dress and she stuck at least 20 fragile tags all over it.
It got there without problems.

I am hoping that come December the security might have gone back to normal and then the normal hand luggage rules will apply.
Hey Funniebunny, you a travel agent by any chance?

I would doubt that they will ever go back to 'normality'.
I think this is what we now how to live with.
It's like you will never be allowed to go & see the pilot in the cockpit ever again too.
It's such a shame.

Even if the "normal" rules do apply which i have to agree with Janine - im not sure that they will. Many airlines do not let you travel with them as hand luggage anyway - although this does depend on the size of the dress and obviously the airline.
Im travelling in December with Virgin and was told their policy states all wedding dresses must be checked into the hold - although i may get a nice person at check in who would arrange to have it put in the upper class wardrobe for me but this was unlikely. A friend of mine flew first class BA and was made to put it in the hold.
Most transatlantic airlines were looking to reduce the hand luggage allowance anyway - i think this will now make it a reality.

Hi Doodles13
Yes I am a travel agent. I book corporate travel for businessmen and this has really put the cat amongst the pigeons. We all agree that it is much safer that hand luggage should be at a minimum, unfortunately some of our travellers son't think that way. At lot of them take their luggage into the cabin rather than checkinging it into the hold. We have some not very happy bunnies at the moment.
I'm glad to hear that the people who checked their dresses into the hold didn't have toio much of a problem.

Hi Funniebunnie,
I am a business travel agent too! I am going to check mine into the hold I think.
This may seem like a silly question but are you a rabbit owner too?

I used to own a rabbit when I was younger. The main reason I use 'funniebunny' is because my Fiance David called me that. When I spoke to him on the phone once he started laughing and said "you are a funny bunny" :lmao:
Did I just notice that your name is Emma too?

It is such a small world!
We are planing an Intimate wedding at Sunset Pointe at the end of November 2007. I can't book anything until this November but I'm trying to get things planned in my head a least. We are in contact with Tanis Armstrong who has been so helpful, she has answered all my emails.
Do you have a contact yet? Did you know that you can use your travel agent discount on the room rates? That's why I'm booking mine direct, I'll probably get the flights with touchdown too.
I read you post about getting married alone and I think it's a lovely idea. I would have done that too but David would like some people there. We have 6 guests but will have a reception when we get home.

I've booked mine through Virgin as we get discount through them. We have a week booked in Florida and then we are flying down to St Lucia for the 2nd week. Bit of a last minute change as we originally had the wedding booked in St Lucia and 2 weeks there.
We have got a reception booked for when we get back in Early Feb as we get back just before Xmas.
My date is December 11th at 2pm at the Wedding Pavillion.
It is a small world after all!!!

Will do, I sent Tanis an email on Friday to see when the 07 prices will be out.
I work for a small independant company, only a couple of us here. It's nice though as we get to know our travellers quite well.
What about yourself?

sorry to butt in, but I've just had an email from Virgin about a VR at WP for next year and it says the times are 2:30 or 5:00 (it's a Tuesday in Dec). Do they change the times according to day or month? It can't be already booked in between these times as it's over a year away so no one else could have booked it already.
