Just a heads up... if you are heading down to stay at one of the resorts... I have been checking online religiously for better rates.. and tonight a new one popped up... "Summer Rate" This was $149 at RPR for a standard room. Cheaper than both the AAA and APH rate. I am going down the last week in August.. and only checked for my dates.. but i was able to drop my price down $30... Every little bit helps! :)
Question... does anyone know if this rate would be considered a "qualifying stay"?
Thanks!

yes, it will be a "qualifying stay"
I thought only rack rate and AAA rates were qualifying stays.
From the website: "A qualified stay or qualified night is at any published rate. Group, negotiated, third party and advanced purchase rates do not apply. Not valid with any other discount program, coupon, complimentary or promotional offer".
This sounds like a promotional offer but I am really not sure at all!

I used the PCT discount code last year and it was a qualifying rate.
I think Valentines rate will qualify because that rate is actually published on the loews website. And my understanding of "combined with promotional offer" means that you cant use the summer rate AND get the stay 4 and play for free offer.

Thanks Valentine, that is very helpful and the best rate I've seen so far, did you find that "summer rate" thing on the Universal website? Or if not where? Thanks again.

APH rate is not a qualifying stay and it is published on the website but AAA is a qualifying stay it is also published, who knows??? That's what makes the whole thing so confusing.

I am an AP holder, but wanted to retain our Platinum status last year when we were booking for 9 nights.
They had an internet special rate for a deluxe room that was about $30.00 a night more than the AP rate, but significantly less than the rack rate.
I called Loewsfirst directly to get a clarification on what was a qualifying rate and if this rate was.
I was told a qualifying rate was any rate that could be found on the Loews website and was available to everybody. So, since anybody could book the internet special, it was a qualifying rate.
As long as you can access the rate from the loewshotels.com website and you do not need a special code to get it, with the exception of AAA, or the code is published for all to see on the Loews website, according to LoewsFirst, it will be a qualifying rate.
So, as long as the Summer Rate is one from Loews and not Universal, and you can book it through LoewsFirst, then according to the several people I spoke to last year, it should be fine.
BTW - I spoke to three different people there who all told me that to get the LoewsFirst you really should always book through the Loewshotels.com site or call the Loews registration number. Don't book through Universal because not all rates through Universal will qualify as LoewsFirst credit.
This Thanksgiving, we are doing the same thing - two rooms, 8 nights under the Stay and Play free promotion. I booked through the Loews site and confirmed with LoewsFirst that this is a qualifying rate. It must have been, as I did it online and when I got my confirmation, they automatically upgraded me to my suite. I was going to call to get the upgrade, but LoewsFirst did it automatically. And they will only upgrade you if you have booked a qualifying rate.
Sorry for the novel :goodvibes

I called and was told that any rate published on the Loews website is considered qualifying. I was also directed to this on their website.
"A qualifying stay is at any rate published by the hotel. Group, negotiated, third party and advanced purchase rates do not apply."

Isnt that interesting that damo found different info on a qualifying stay no doubt also found on their website. Loews first benefits has had conflicting info from the start when it comes to the Universal properties.

Thanks so much for this info. My rate just went from 183.00 (AAA) to 149.00. Just FYI, the woman that I spoke with at Loews stated this is not a qualifying rate, she stated this without me asking. I really don't care since I'm saving almost $35.00 a night.

I was told by Loews First when I called this afternoon that the rate did qualify for the Loews first perks. I would check again and get it in writing if you book it.
The rate just comes up when checking dates online. Here is an example.

STANDARD ROOM KING BED 335 Sq Ft Relaxing Tropical Decor Sleeps up to 3
Rate Description:
SUPER SAVINGS Super End of Summer Savings! Not combinable with other offers
Additional Information:

The same special comes up at HRH the rate is $179.00 a night for a garden view.

Hi... Sorry... I haven't been on yet today :) I found it on the Universal site...
www.universalstudios.com
I go there and then pick Hotels.. and then put in the Hotel I want and the dates I want... the different prices come up for that date... I play around and put in AAA and APH in as codes for comparison... and this rate came up.... for all the hotels... you have to scroll down and see what's available. the cheapest price is not always at the top.
Good luck!
And thanks for all the replies about the qualifying stay... I still don't know what the answer is.. but hey.. for a $30 savings per night.. I can go buy my own package of cookies and a container of milk!! LOL!! and with the new supposed rule of all stays have to be in one year... well.. it is all just so darned confusing!
Good luck to everyone.. and I hope you all enjoy your extra cash! See ya at the parks!

So... since I booked mine through the universal site and it was called "Summer Savings"

should I cancel my ressie done on the universal site and rebook under the Loews site to get a qualifiying stay?
Hmmmm... Any opinions?

If you want the Loews perks, and can get the same dates, then I would definitely rebook..
The LoewsFirst people were quite adament when I spoke to them that specials booked through the Universal site, and/or Expedia, Travelocity, etc are third parties and their specials do not qualify. You HAVE to book through Loewshotels.com or call the Loews Reservations number to have your stay a qualifying rate.

I just called and spoke to someone about these rates. I was told they do not quallify. She even spoke to a supervisor and they cannot figure out why. While on the phone with me, the operator next to her, also had someone questioning why. Needless to say customer service is not open today, but I did just pen off a very strong e-mail. I did go ahead and change my AAA rate anyway. I had a deluxe booked for $233 and decided to upgrade to club for the $279. Now I will have to figure out how to get one of the coveted deluxe rooms on the club floor.

AAA rates qualify but APH don't? AAA is available for purchase to everyone but so are the Annual Passes. You would think that Loew's would support/encourage Universal customers with the same benefits as someone who purchases AAA.:car:

You would think, wouldn't you.
My guess is because AAA gives them their coveted 4 star rating, they make an exception for the AAA members. I think it a good thing that they work with AAA to maintain that 4*, so I won't complain. Even though my room is booked with the play 4 free package instad of my AP so I get suite. AP rates were cheaper. And obviously, we don't need the tickets.
I should clarify myself though on what LoewsFirst told me about "available to everybody". I should have added "without having to buy something in addition - AAA excluded."
Sorry, I forgot that part

Hi,
Does anyone know if you book a room through Loews with the Summer Special rate whether you would still get an upgraded room?
I'm platinum and I'm wondering if I book a garden-view room for September at $159 a night whether I would get the usual King Suite Upgrade?

Thanks, OP! We are going Saturday, and I was able to save $30 a night off my AAA rate despite being within the five day cancellation window (I could change my rate with no penalty). The reservation agent did say I would not get my Loew's perks, but as a PP said, I can buy a lot of cookies and milk for $30 a night!
Thank you! Looking forward to our first on-site stay and first visit to IOA! :cool1:

I just tried to make a reservation on Sept. 2 (Labor Day weekend) at RPR for $149. They told me that that rate was not available. I told them it was online. They tried to get 159 out of me but I refused. I booked the 149 on-line then called to see if I could get an upgrade. They said no. I canceled. I can get AAA for 159.20 and I know I can get a bunch of cookies for $10.20 but I can't be guaranteed a suite. I'm getting PBH for 159 APH the following day and I bet real money that I'll be upgraded to at least a suite there. This is frustrating! Yasmin is gone and I can't get Ray Coleman to even answer an email.

This is the official word from Loews on recieving benefits with the new summer rates:
Thank you for your inquiry. If you make your reservations directly through Loews Hotels, by calling 1-800-LOEWS-11, the LoewsFirst benefits will always be extended to you as a valued member. Please note that upgrades and other benefits are subject to availability.
Regarding the Signature Summer rate of $159, if your reservation details follow the terms & conditions of the Signature Summer campaign, you will be able to receive this rate. One of our LoewsFirst reservations representatives will be happy to assist you in determining this.
Thank you for choosing LoewsFirst.

Days ago I posted on this thread that I called the Loews First # and was told these Summer rates did qualify for the loews first benefits. So many after me got different answers and many stated they would NOT honor this rate as qualifying.
I am thrilled to see you got it in writing but upon closer examination once again as usual Loews baffles and confuses. The first paragraph really isnt true and I cant believe they even said it. I DO believe it but still its so crazy. Where is the disclaimer that certain rates dont qualify? Basically they are saying if you call the loews first # and make your reservation they will honor your loews first benefits as a valued member and it will ALWAYS be extended? Hmmm really? OK so we can all call and book APH rates and get our loews first benefits. Did I read it wrong?
The second paragraph is where they dazzle you with their magic ;) My reservation details must follow the terms and conditions of the special campaign I would also receive this rate? HUH? The rate isnt in question is it? I thought the question was plain and simple, Do the Signature Summer rates qualify for Loews First benefits? Really the last sentence is the only part that makes sense. Call Loews First reservations and one of their reservationists will decide at that time what you are entitled to and hey, if you dont like what that person has to say, hang up, call back, and ask the next person. :teeth:
I cant wait to see what the bottom line is with these rates.

I thought the email from Loews didn't make any sense, so I did what they asked and rang them and told them I was platinum, only to be told no suites upgrades available during my stay in September, but they had club floor and deluxe rooms available for 299+. I asked if I could have a complimentary upgrade to one of those, to be told, "no" as they are not suites. I then rang the hotel direct and asked if they had suites, to which they replied,"yes". No King suites, but Kids suites are usually 479, now on a summer special at 335.30. Garden View rooms are 159, but she didn't know whether I would be entitled to any loews benefits, so I've just booked 12 nights @ 159 (for now).

All the King Suites are booked up for your dates in Sept? Wonder if its a convention. I know that the suite upgrades include the kids suites as I have been given a kids suite as an upgrade using my platinum twice now. I like it much better than the king suites but I go with kids not sure if you do.
I would have done exactly what you did and booked the $159 rate and then work on securing the suite. I hope it all works out for you. With your HRH loyality it behooves them to give you the suite!

We just returned from a great trip to Loews Miami Beach where we received the Signature Summer rates, were upgraded to the top floor St. Moritz Suite and was treated like royalty because of our Platinum status.
The rates for RPR and HRH are posted as follows:
Rate Description:
SUPER SAVINGS - Enjoy special end of summer savings, stay longer and save more! Not combinable with other offers.
When I asked for an upgrade they said that these rates were so low that they can't be combined with the Loew's First benefits. I think its bull and reminded them of several stays that were less than the RPR $149.
I got a little miffed at the reservationist that said she showed were no rooms at the SUPER SAVINGS rate because they are still on the website. She, too, asked if I'd been to RPR and I told her, "Yes, many times." She then proceeded to try and sell the place to me by telling me that the rooms had 335 square feet,... and a bunch of other propaganda that I already knew.
I called the Loew's First number ( in Arizona BTW) and they said that they couldn't help. I had to go through the Universal reservationist. I told the girl from Universal that this only happens at the Universal Loews hotels and that I hope my call was recorded and listened to by someone empowered to make a difference.

I call ahead and speak to Chris Garcia. I have had many stays at HRH and do bring that to his attention. Before calling him I call 1-800-563-9712, Loews First Customer Service and try to secure the suite before my stay.
HRH is the hardest of the three onsites to get a suite. It helps greatly to stay off season. I have also been upgraded to a deluxe room when a suite wasnt available but that happened when we checked in.

Not too sure, but I read somewhere they are renovating the rooms, so they may be doing the King Suites first and that's why there aren't any available.
We have stayed in a King Suite during our last four stays, including our last trip which was 19 nights! We have never had a problem securing one before. The time we usually go in mid-September the occupancy rate is usually running at around 30% mid-week and is an ideal time to go and also to secure an upgrade, that's why I was surprised they had nothing available.
We have a room booked at a very good rate and that's all that matters for now. Anything else will be a bonus.
It is interesting that they will upgrade to a kids suite if you are platinum. A kids suite would be ideal for us (2 adults and a 3 year old daughter). Maybe I should work on trying to secure one of these  Do you know who would be the best person at the Hard Rock to speak to? A guy called Mark Shouger took care of a couple of our previous reservations, although i'm not too sure if he still works over there?
Thanks

I just returned from vacation yesterday. I had switched my rate from 183.00(AAA) to 149.00(Summer special) at the last minute. Was told by a Loews rep when switching that the summer special was not a qualifying rate. That was not a problem for me. After showing my platinum card, the person checking us in upgraded us to a king suite...I did not request this. I had requested Tower 1 but was told no suites available there so they placed us in Tower 2. Ended up that I didn't care for the suite anyway and it reeked of smoke (non smoking room). We then were switched over to Tower 1 in standard room. The upgrade was supposedly a pool view but all we really saw was a huge tree in front of the window...room 1230. Was not that happy with the room but we just left things alone. We also did receive the cookies and milk welcome gift, along with turn down service. I have to say, as much as I love the RP (have stayed there every year since their opening), I did see a bit of a decline in the hotel. The suite they gave us originally reeked of smoke, coffee table was missing (I knew that because my son and wife also had a suite right above us and they had the table) and did not seem that clean. Our standard room was fine (except for it's location and view) but the pool area was not kept that clean. On Saturday, we sat at the pool area from about 6am-10am while doing laundry and never saw anyone clean the pool. There was tons of sand at the bottom and floating debris. We also noticed other areas of the pool and grounds that haven't been kept up. Just an observation, I will probably stay there again next year.

Ugghh! I am still disappointed that these "summer rates" are beating the APH rate! At the RPR, a standard room with APH is $179. The summer rate (available to anyone and everyone who stays at least 5 nights) is $139. Wh-wha-what?! This is during low season, in September, after Labor Day. :(
The AP site is advertising rooms starting at $129 per night (which usually means standard RPR room), but I have YET to find that rate for any of the dates which they advertise (August 6 - September 28), and I have been checking about 2x per day for months!
What happened to the stay 3 nights, get one free special they ran last year?! (Not that I was expecting the exact same offer again, but honestly, $179 with an AP during very low -- and hurricane -- season for a standard room? It's unusual is all I am saying.)
I wrote a nice e-mail to the AP office to let them know that they are advertising something that never existed (the $129 rate). Let's see if I hear back.

The summer rates thing is kind of a pain. Right now we have PBH @159 for Sunday night. I want to add Saturday at RPR for 149 Summer or 159.30 AAA and the Loew's site says not available. If I check Fri. and Sat. they are available. I'm considering getting Fri. and Sat. and cancelling Fri. The next question is to get the 149 or go for the 159.30 to be guaranteed the suite? This is for Labor Day weekend.

I just changed AAA rate to the $149 summer rate, I did it throught the Lowes central number and was told this would be a qualifying stay still.
yourgoingagain?
08-21-2006, 07:39 PM
After getting an e-mail from Loew's, I called about the summer rate. I was told (after first being told no it isn't qualifying, then yes it is) it has to do with the number of nights required to get a qualifying stay (4 at PBH). We have a reservation for 3 nights over labor day weekend and as Platinum member already had the portofino suite booked. I didn't want to pay a cheaper rate (only $8 dollars less per) and not get the automatic suite upgrade so I just stayed with the AAA rate.
It did irritate me enough to ask that I be removed from the Loew's e-mail list. The whole thing had a "bait and switch" feel. The money wasn't that big of deal (2 martini's at the velvet bar cost more) but the hassle of talking to 3 different people all with different answers and then to discover it is only for stays of 4 or more nights for the Universal resorts. The Loew's site should just state the requirements then I would have known and not wasted my time or their time.
Oh well, after the 2 martini's (maybe more) I'm sure I'll feel fine  .

A few days back Loews told me the Summer rates were qualifying, then they came back and said they weren't. Then to top it all off Universal reservations and also the Hard Rock Hotel told me they definitely weren't qualifying and we are staying for twelve nights. I have had to change my rate from 159.00 to 229 to secure a suite.

That stinks. I was told the same but as I said in my previous post, when I checked in I was given the suite upgrade anyway. Funny thing, I didn't really want the suite, and when I looked at it, I knew I definitely didn't want it. It was missing the coffee table and reeked of smoke. We then were switched to Tower 1, supposedly a poolview room, 1230. Not exactly the best location (all the way down hall near the exit) and not the best view (I could barely make out the pool thru a huge tree). I didn't want to go back to the front desk and ask for another room..LOL..(I'm not a complainer really but the suite was really unkept and smelled) so it ended up to be fine. Next time, I will remember to request a specific room as we've had some really great rooms with great views in the past.
We just returned form the HRH. Two days before we were leaving I decided to call and change to Club Level using the Smmmer rates. Before I left, I had posted about the Summer Rates not being a qualified stay. I was really :furious: as this would bring me to platinum, but did it anyway  I immediately e-mailed Lowes quoting their site and expressing my displeasure. Below are the responses I received.
I will look into your request and get back to you by tomorrow. Their is
indeed a signature summer program that has to be booked on the web were LF
amenities do apply, and their is also a summer program that can be booked
through our reservation department which is none qualifying. I would like
to research you booking method and get back to you.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding but we will try to accommodate as much
as possible.
Thanks

The Signature Summer rates listed on the Loews Hotels website should
qualify for LoewsFirst benefits as long as the room type and stay dates are
in coordination with the Signature Summer terms and conditions.
Thanks.
I will be calling in the morning to see if my nights were applied.
By the way- we had a wonderful time, received our welcome amenities, no questions asked, and scored one of the queen deluxe rooms :cool1: Thanks to Fan2CSkr for posting those room numbers - I went in with a loaded gun.
