I have 6 tattoos now - none are Disney (yet). Mine are mostly tribal signs and zodiac signs of my family members. They are addicting!

I am turning 40 next Tuesday and am getting a tattoo. I can't wait. I was thinking about Tinkerbell, but I really like the castle with the mickey ballons. The inside of the ankle really doesn't hurt? This will be my first one and i am sort of nervous.

I've got tattoos on the inside & outside and they both were the same. If you get one on the outside & on the bone, that tends to have more pain then off the bone, but it's still tolerable. I'm a HUGE baby, too. Of course I have 7 tattoos, so that may be hard to believe, but it's true!!

I've been debating putting up the other sketches my tattoo guy drew up for me. Would you like to see them?

Yes, I tipped my tattoo artist well. Heck, $10 on a $30 tattoo is pretty good, or so I think! Here are my others since you've asked! ;) They are in order of how I got them...

#1 - Designed by a friend (her initials are in the ear). It's my favorite color, my favorite animal, the "99" in the tail was a year of growth & change for me, just an all-around story of me. Inside of my right ankle. ($60 in 2000)
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x18/theatermouse/doodle004.jpg

#2 & #3 - (left to right) Friends & Dreams. These were shrunk too much & blended. Outside left ankle. ($20 each, Aug. 2000)
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x18/theatermouse/doodle003.jpg

#4 - Even though this isn't one of my ankle tats, this one is on my left shoulder blade. I got this with my best friend in college, hers is on her lower back. The chinese symbol is friends, too. Yes, we're still friends! ($75, April 2001)
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x18/theatermouse/doodle005.jpg

#5 & #6 - The footprints are my son's from birth (shrunk like half a centimeter). The symbols are his name. My only regret of a tattoo are those symbols, I think they're too big for the footprints, plus the guy went WAY too deep and it hurt to move my leg for days. Most people like the combination, though. Inside left ankle. ($40 for the footprints, $20 for the symbols, Jan. '09)
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x18/theatermouse/doodle001-1.jpg

Here are the sketches. I think my next one will be the first one. I LOVE it! I also really like the one that's next to the castle. I'll get them in color, though. I hope to have it done before we go again in December. He quoted me $30 for each of them, too.

Not a Disney tattoo but this is my next one. I am going to hopefully cover up a tattoo I got last year. My hidden Mickey needs to be touched up too!

And if you have an idea in mind, try asking the folks on the creative DisSigns thread to come up with something for you. Natalie made my avatar in honor of my kiddos, and I turned around and had it tattooed on my leg! Only one like it! All I did was post a thread asking for a design with Belle and Sebastian together.

I am back to the drawing boards. I have decided against the Snow White with Grumpy because I feel like to get the detail it would need to be bigger than I want.

I really love the recent castle tattoo posted. Anyone have any ideas for something along the lines of the castle or maybe a Mickey head with crown?

I am about to cover up some Chinese symbols on my ankle by making them into black mickey heads with colored outlines. They are right next to each other on my ankle. I just don't love them and I know I would LOVE a Disney tattoo.

I think 2 will be face up and one will be face down, or vice versa.

Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to go to the place you plan on getting tattooed, or even to a few different places. Take in a picture, sketch, or even idea of what you'd like and see if the artist has an inspiration to go along with it. That's what I did and I love what my artist came up with. I know what I ended up with is the logo for this year, but I wouldn't have thought of it! Plus, his other sketches were awesome. That way, too, you can get a feel of the place & person if you don't already know them and see if you're comfortable with them. Fortunately, the area I live in has many tattoo places and I was able to feel them out. I DO NOT like a certain chain we have around here, another was okay and she would have been alright, but the 3rd place I stopped to price & get ideas at was "IT" for me. Hope you're able to find "your" tattoo! Can't wait to hear about it! :wizard:

I couldn't agree more. My brother and I got "matching" tattoos to honor my grandfather...I am really hating mine and going to have it covered up. I love the rest of mine but didn't put enough thought into this one. BE SURE!!!

Oh, I didn't realize I'd missed this remark, Mandy. I'm a quiet reader of this thread and never comment, but I didn't know you're getting the paw covered. I loved it when you posted it to be honest. Obviously, you have to love it yourself, but it surprised me when I was going back through this and saw your post.

Little Side Bar ----
I suppose I should mention (or introduce myself) that I have no Disney tats yet, but I have half sleeves, one tribal under my belly button that I got when I was 18 (years ago :lmao:) and one on my back before they became better know as tramp stamps - I hate it now, but I still leave it there... I'm an ink freak and going for full sleeves. I have 2 artists and an apprentice that are allowed to touch me unless I find a major artist in the area or at a convention, :lmao:! My Hidden Mickey tat is currently under way and it will be placed in an anchor with a leopard print bow on my foot or ankle. I currently have about 5 tats planned which include a upper back piece with sugar skull and roses, more flowers on my lotus arm which will contain roses, asters, lilies and hyacinths, and a feminine rat head, pig head and snake on the swallows arm to represent family members, sounds crazy but they'll be amazing when done - probably in a few years as time and money allows.

Anway. I've seen some cool pieces here. I adore the Snow White Half Sleeve. It's beautifully done!

Awesome!!! How did you find the foot pain?

I'm not the poster, but this is my tattoo that I got last night for my 16th birthday.
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n180/browneyedbrunette23/103_1302.jpg

The pain was not that bad at all. It took about 10 minutes, both the outline and the coloring. It felt like a really bad cat scratch. At some points it was worse than others, but it lasted maybe 10 seconds before the artist moved on to another spot. At some points I could feel it "rattle"my bone but it actually felt kind of worse. I actually let out, "THAT'S IT?!" when I started getting tattooed because I thought it would be sooooo much worse.

The gold ribbon is for childhood cancer, which both me and several good friends and classmates have had. One recently passed away so this was for her too.

ETA: Oops, this is imabrat on mom's account. Whoops.

I have 2 others besides this one -- one of them was a cover up. The one on my lower back is really large and took almost 4 hours...the one on my ankle is about 5 inches in height and is pretty detailed.

Compared to those, the foot was not that painful while I was actually having it done. What IS painful -- and it still hurts now, is the aftermath! I walked on it in Vegas all day Friday and Sat and by the time we flew home Sat night it was swollen and painful!

Foot tattoos take more dilligence about aftercare than other locations on the body. But I love it!

I still want a Tink tat.....in the future!

Thanks guys. Only issue I see is where to put it. It has to be able to be covered by clothes when I need to (ie. work) but I want to be able to admire the artwork without looking at a mirror and want it in a spot that won't get messed up when I lose weight/get pregnant.

The castle/dumbo would be nice. Upper Arm area might be an option for you as that was not affected by my weight gain and loss at all during pregnancy and I had a 60 lb gain and loss from the time I had him 2008 until now! My belly tattoo is messed up a little where I scratched it and it has a few stretch marks on the one side that need touched up. Good luck Friday! Ankle area is also nice if you only wear pants to work.

These are all really great tattoos !!! :) I have been wanting to get one for 7 years, since I was 17 & got my belly button pierced. One of these days I will finally get it. I'm thinking a foot tattoo && a crazy curly/cursive font that says Dream (for Disneys value, Dream.Believe.Dare.Do) with a very hidden (not filled in) mickey! That's my idea so far. I'm trying to find the font I want so I can design it myself. Who knows I will be in Disney in 3 weeks. I might get it then!

Now for dumbo flying across, maybe this? Or is it to much detail for something to hide under a short sleeve shirt? I like it because Donald and Pluto are my favorites from the fab 5.

Yeah, I only plan on getting it to where I can wear a T-Shirt and you can't see it, so I don't think it'll be big enough for it. It might not even be big enough to do Dumbo alone...we'll have to see.

Now for dumbo flying across, maybe this? Or is it to much detail for something to hide under a short sleeve shirt? I like it because Donald and Pluto are my favorites from the fab 5.

I think that's adorable and it would be great! You could easily hide it. This is a pic of my arm and it's not the best quality pic as my friend shrunk the image when she saved it for their page, but you can see my half sleeve and I easily hide it when I need to look professional.

Yours looks SO cool! I love it!

Mine has to be hidden under a short sleeve shirt though, because I'm going to Disney for my college program, and I can't have any visible tattoo with my costume, and a lot of them are short sleeves. Disney is going to (hopefully) be my career, so that is really important...

lol wow. I don't know if I could do the whole "identical tattoos" thing. Similar theme maybe though, kinda like how Mandy had with her brother earlier in the thread, with the two different bear claws on her and her brother.

Yea...df wants matching Tattoos when we get married but I'm not in for that. I am thinking maybe getting each other's astrological sign or something.

Did you read the part where I am getting the paw print covered up...

Yeah I saw that, what are you getting it covered up with? Did you decide yet?

Guys, I'm wondering if the dumbo with the castle will be possible, because the tattoo I want is kinda small....you might not be able to see it...if that's true, should I just get the Dumbo with Pluto and Donald or the castle...I can't decide!

Having a Disney career is an awesome goal! I say go for it and try to stay small enough with your tattoo that you can hide it well. Also, look for some cover up make up "just in case" to carry in your bag!

Good luck!

Thanks!! The funny thing is my husband got the same one too! he insisted that we get identical ones down to the same colors. I told him I didn't care what he got but I was picking out my own. His friends gave him a hard time for awhile, but he doesn't care. :rotfl:

My husband and I have the same tattoo...it's a grateful dead bear. His is on his leg and mine is on my chest. The only thing is...we didn't know each other when we got them. I was 30 and he was 18. And I am 5 years older then him. I don't know if I could ever do identical tattoos...but it's kinda cute!!!

I took the tattoo artist my sketches today and he drew up some awesome designs for me. He saw I attempted to draw a castle and decided to draw one, too. He looked up the castle online & found the castle that's used for this year's Celebrate theme. So, I got my tattoo today...It only cost $30. He was awesome and said he enjoyed doing the castle for me. He's never been do WDW but would love to.

I was going to ask how bad it hurt. I want something with the castle and have printed a million pictures of the castle to take with me. I have several pictures of Snow White, Tink, and Minnie printed also, I am hoping to combine one of the characters and the castle. I also have a pretty cool picture of a tiara that is a tattoo that I thought might look good with the castle. I dont know?

That sounds cool! The artist will be able to draw it up for you, and you can decide from there whether you are going to get it or not. It felt more like a hot scratching feeling, and sometimes it made me wince, but it wasn't tear inducing painful. More annoying then anything.

The only problem with the Disney idea is that people keep saying "Isn't that kind of childish?"

Why worry about what your friends think. My family is mostly "from the old country!" and they think tattoos are a disgrace, yet the one that I have of my parents pays respect to them and they cant even realize that. And as for anyone else, well i belong to a motorcycle club and when we are out i sometimes get ribbed for a disney tattoo until some of the girls see it and say things like "oh that is cute (like me LOL) or they tell the others to shut up because it is a sign of respect, or they even admire me for having the guts to have one and show it off! Just remember as long as you like it is all that counts. Think of it as hanging up a piece of art, some may like it and others may not, but its your house and if they dont like it they dont have to look.

When you least expect it you will find something perfect.

For as long as I can remember I've wanted a tattoo, but never got one because I didn't know what I wanted. Last summer while at Disney my dd and I got temp. tattoos, mine was Grumpy, and I then knew what I wanted! I searched until I found the right one and 2 months ago at the age of 35 I finally got my tattoo. Now I want more, but doubt I'll do it since dh isn't too crazy about the first one.

Just keep in mind what your looking for and it will come to you.

Good luck

I searched until I found the right one and 2 months ago at the age of 35 I finally got my tattoo. Now I want more, but doubt I'll do it since dh isn't too crazy about the first one.

Just keep in mind what your looking for and it will come to you.

Good luck

:goodvibes Thanks

I turned 36 yesterday, so I might be 46 before I figure it out. Who knows. I am just not creative and I dont want to pick something off the wall if you know what I mean. :upsidedow

It took me about 9 months of planning AFTER I knew what I wanted before I actually got mine done. I was terrified about the pain too :scared1: so many people told me how bad tatoos hurt and people kept telling me that the feet are the worst.
I'm a wimp and got thru 5 hours of pain ...both feet...in one sitting...so once you determine what you want, you can do it!!! :thumbsup2

I love it!! And it didn't hurt at all!!! Although its sore now.

Thank you! How cool that we live so close to one another! I see you are a cruise fan. We are going on our first cruise in Jan
Now about your tatoo, you could get one of Mickey holding a huge ribbon (maybe hugging it), he could be wearing one, or he could even have the breast cancer ribbon as his ballon. You could do any of these with Minnie too
p.s. sorry to hear about your cousin:sad1:

My husband got another tattoo, too. Today's our 4-year wedding anniversary and this is what we did as gifts. Here's a pic of his for those that like looking at tattoos... ;)

I LOVE that idea of getting them together and having that be your anniversary gifts. Want to know why? My girlfriend and I of nearly 6 years decided yesterday afternoon to do the exact same thing for our anniversary next weekend. Crazy, huh? LoL

So, this also means that I'll have pictures of my castle/spaceship earth design sooner rather than later

I was at Disneyland a few years ago and saw this design on the exit gate at the Snow White's Adventures ride. i'm not sure - i have a music staff and notes on my lower back that the tattoo artest though would look better which all kinds of other notes and a sharp making it unplayable so i was thinking of covering it up.

i had thought of the side view of the castle with the river in front making tinkerbell a flying one over my shoulder.

but if i cover up the notes with something else tink could sit on it.

I think I am going to get a Sorcerer Mickey, half sleeve, on my right upper arm. I want a lot of color. I have found a really great one on line, but my daughter is a really great artist so I may have her use it as a guide and make some changes.

I thought the best place to get some advice would be from some fellow DISers. So, any tips, advice, etc.????

Thanks!!!

Make sure to research the tattoo artist doing your work. See what other work they have done in color, this way you know what to expect. As always we want to see pictures after your tattoo.

Mine is posted on page 5, post 66.

I also wanted a lot of color & style.
Interviewed 4 artists, before I got mine done.
1st you have to like the style they work with.
2nd you have to be comfortable with the person that will be doing it.

I still love it wouldn't change it at all.

Thinking of getting another.
Peter Pan, Wendy, John, & Michel with Tinkerbell.
Flying pass Big Ben in the clouds.
Still haven't found a good picture I like to use.
Anyone have any suggestions?

so the tattoo artist can't do a tinkerbell tiny b/c it will bleed together....and i don't want her the same size as the flowers...so any more ideas??? Really wanting something small added to the tattoo, but that weaves through the two flowers???? also started thinking maybe a disney quote under the flowers, but that also references my kids...any help???

What about Thumper? Or would you have the same problem with the size of the character ?

I think the problem is the flowers are the size of quarters, so maybe a character is out all together. Since I have a hidden Mickey in one of the flowers, maybe instead of pixie dust, mickey head sprinkles through out the tattoo or small mickey balloons. I could always fall back to starburts and an airbrush look around the flowers, just wanted more of a not so obvious disney touch??

I think you could feasibly do a tiny Tinkerbell, like just have her outline, all black. I tried to find something to show what I'm talking about but I can't. Anyone understand what I'm trying to say?

Hey thanks!!!! I will see if I can find them on line too. We live in Statesville, so that is not far at all.

BTW, Grumpy is one of my favorite Disney characters!!!! That is a really cool tattoo!!

Here's their website http://inkwelltattoosnc.com/home.html If you look at their myspace page in the pictures and go to John's pictures you will see my tattoo as well as other work he has done.

Thanks for the compliment. I really love it and think that John did a great job with it. He told me it was his first Grumpy but he had done another Disney tattoo that morning.

Okay I have given this lots of thought.... I want a Disney tattoo but I want to make sure that *A* it's not a faze with me, so I will give myself a good 6 plus months to see if I still feel the same way, *B* it's something that I want and like for the rest of my life. *C* I give myself plenty of time to find the right tattoo artist to do what I want; and finally *D* come over the fact that I hate needles with a passion.

I love Queensryche and always wanted a Tri-Ryche and I also like the Canadian Mickey head which I don't have a pic on hand for at this time. I need to find a way to incorporate them together.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b111/metallicawindsor/qrpic.jpg

If I was to get the Tri-Ryche I wouldn't want it bigger than maybe 2 inches by 2 inches and for the Mickey head it would be around 1 inch by 1 inch. Both tattoo's I want small. I'm also thinking on my ankle or foot.

Gosh maybe this is a mid-life crisis thing that I have going?

I sent an initial email last night to a local shop. The artist wants me to come in so he can look over the pictures I have and get an idea together. He said he would estimate at least 2 sittings, possibly 3 or 4.

Looking at a few artist. But have emailed the one I want to meet with first. I am thinking of a sorcerer Mickey, maybe a half sleeve, or close to it. Lots of color.

Any suggestions?

Definitely shop around.. The tink I got on my back was pretty detailed, so I kept going to places where they said they would have to make it bigger than I wanted to get all the detail.. Finally, a shop on I-Drive in Orlando said he could do it at around 6 inches. I was happy with that, and 3.5 yrs later, I still love it :)

I had that same issue (with my chip and dale)....another shop said they needed to enlarge it by at least 25% and I didn't like that idea at all.

It definitely pays to shop around. Especially cuz it's YOUR body and NOT theirs.

When you guys say to look around first, should I get drawings from each shop? In other words, should I take my ideas to more than one place and have each shop draw up a sketch? Did you go and look around the shop you used?

Thanks :thumbsup2

some lady came in to the shop when i was getting my tattoo who was doing this and the guy who did my tattoo basically told me that it's rude to go and get drawings from multiple shops at the same time. he said, you can see what one place does and if they don't work for you, go somewhere else, but don't see multiple places at once. he said that they will actually get ticked off at you if they find out that you've been doing that. that was just the place i went to, so i'm not sure how it is everywhere??

most places are pretty good at creating something that will make you happy.

I checked two different shops before I decided which one to use. I didn't have them do any sketches but I did take the picture of what I wanted done and showed it to them.

In the end I went with the one that I felt more comfortable with, and some of my friends had went there and so I was able to get advice from someone who had BTDT

IMO I would go and talk to a few people and see who makes you feel more comfortable.

I think I FINALLY decided on an idea for my Disney related tattoo. I knew I wanted something involving the parks, and I found this from a pin on ebay a few days ago. It's almost EXACTLY what I was envisioning in my head. The only thing I added was the small "hidden mickey" in the bottom left hand corner.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v448/thadarkslayer/disneytattoo2.jpg

I want to get it done just below my neck at the top of my back.

UPDATE! We were supposed to go a few weekends ago, but car issues made money a bit short at the time. I plan to finally do it this weekend! I'm excited. I was debating about keeping the entire thing black with the exception of the color stripe on the monorail. If I did that, I would go with lime or blue. I'm still debating on that one, though.

thadarkslayer: If you do your entire tattoo in black & get the monorail strip done in blue, it may be hard to see, depending on the shade of blue. Lime may stand out more. Just my 2 cents! Good luck & can't wait to see it!!

Okee dokee! This is about 5 or so hours after it was done. It took an hour to do.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v448/thadarkslayer/100_8977.jpg

I had to compromise with my castle.

1 - I didn't have a super huge image of it. The picture I had was a scan from a "Happy Birthday Disney World" button from the 80's.
2 - He said with the size I wanted, all of the details within the castle would eventually bleed together.

I ended up pulling up another castle logo for him on google images, and he just put it where the other castle was.

I love it. I was really going for something that was more symbol-related, and a representation of it, without trying to look like an actual photo. I got exactly what I wanted. =)

OK, now it is kind of hard to explain the location. It is kind of on my ribs, on the right side. So, if you are looking at me from the side, and I am in a bikini, its about an inch or two down from the bathing suit top.

Does that even make sense?!? :confused3

Anyway, I am debating getting it colored it an some point. I kind of like it plain, just outlined. What do you think??? :)

Here's my Hidden Mickey tattoo. Sorry the pic is so blurry, but did you know it's really hard to take a picture of the back of your neck yourself??

http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/data/500/thumbs/mickey_tatt.jpg

The "Mickey" part is the scrollwork Mickey head in the middle, "Hidden" because I usually wear my hair down, and even when I wear it up, it's not overly obvious to people that it's a Disney tattoo right away, until they look closely!

Yep. It's at the very top and center of my back. It's not huge huge, but it's a decent size. I need to get a shot of my entire back for perspective.

And eep! Infections in tattoos don't sound like fun. How long did it take to heal with that involved as well?

This is what I want to get! But I also am a huge chicken. I've wanted this for the last several years and always chicken out at the last minute. I want to put it somewhere near the foot. I wanted to do it on top of the foot but I hear thats really painful. I wanted to do it in red with a smaller Mickey Head in the center swirl part in black or reverse the color around and have a small red Mickey Head instead. I hope you have the guts I probably never will! Post pictures!
