Does anyone know why you can't self book restuarants online????? It's a pain - i can't ring France (i'm ashamed that I can't speak french and although you don't need to, i still feel odd doing it) and phoning the states just makes me nervous!!!!

I wish I knew! I think it'd be a great idea, hope it is implemented in the future.

Well I'm going to be the odd one out here then. ;)
I love phoning to book our meals ~ it's all part of the build-up to our holiday for me! When I phoned DLRP to book our meals a couple of weeks ago I just start with Bonjour, then I apologise for having to speak English  and there is never any problem. The lady in Dining Reservations and I were having great fun as I was booking everything with the time in the 24 hour clock (which I thought they used in France) and she kept repeating it back to me in A.M. and P.M., not always correctly! ;) We were both in hysterics at the end of the call but it just made me even more excited for my hols!
And when I get back from DLRP it will be time to start planning my WDW meals and phoning the US in September to book them! :yay: :yay:

I actually think it's because there's not much need. I don't even phone ahead to book my restaurants, but instead wait until I'm in resort and do it at the concierge desk. And yet I've always got the times I've wanted, even booking with only one/two days notice (though when we've got to the restaurant, the wait for walk ups was normally one hour or more, so I'm always glad I did reserve!).
Compare that to WDW where I'm on the phone to them the very second my 90 day window comes up and yet still have occasions when I can't get the meal I want on the day I want...
