View Full Version : Help - Which Mod Resort for Little Ones?
08-03-2006, 03:09 PM
Sorry for another one of these questions - but I am thinking of upgrading our reservation. We are staying at the AsMovies in Sept - but with the pool being closed... We are travelling with two DDs both 4 and loved to swim. Which Mod resort would be best for little ones? Any suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks

Personally my favorite mod is POR. Old Man Island is a great swimming hole, there are several quiet pools, the landscaping is beautiful, you can rent boats, go pole fishing, ride bikes, take the boat to DTD, etc. Many people on these boards really like the pool at CSR with it's fun slide, but for two 4 yo's, I'd recommend POR. The slide there is definitely manageable for 4 yo's, I personally don't think my girls would try the very long one at CSR until they're around 8 or 9--but that's just my kids.
The food court there is great, large seating area, lots of selection. I personally do not like the setup at the Pepper Market, but many think that you get a good value there, especially on the dining plan. I do not care for the food court at CBR.
The other benefit of POR is that it is a sister resort to the French Quarter side so you can also use it's themed pool which many say is great for the kiddos as well--with a really nice slide for the younger set.

Thanks for the feedback. I have heard good things about POR. I stayed at the CBR 13 years ago. All I remember is that is was very large and we had to walk alot- I dont remember anything great about the pool. Hopefully I will be able to get my reservation changed.

POFQ. here is link to its slide.
they are little to young for CSR - although it has a nice slide - but more for pre teens and teens
the slide is on the other side of this
POR is nice too
but for 4 years old POFQ wins hands down.

we love POR; it's so green and shady. The ducks are wonderful. Great for taking a nice walk by the river.

CSR is a large resort that doesn't share services with other resorts and offers some deluxe amenities because it's a convention resort.
CSR offers a salon, spa, workout facility, full menu room service, a courtesy coach to assist in getting to and from the main building, and is the only moderate to offer suites.
If you're on the dining plan, you won't find a better CS spot than the Pepper Market (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1133200). Huge portions, great choices and tasty food. Lunch/Dinner Menu (http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_pm.htm)
CSR is situated around a 15 acre lake and CBR is situated around a 45 acre lake. Great place for a romantic walk romantic walk (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1131673) around the Lago Dorado, across the lighted bridge to the hammocks on the white sandy beach.
CSR has terrific transportation (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1130921). It doesn't share with any other resort (like POR / POFQ) and it only has 4 bus stops within the resort (vs 7 at CBR). And since CSR is centrally located, you'll have a quick ride to all the parks.
And being a convention resort, the buses seem less crowded because guests are busy with their conventions.
CSR is the most central to the 3 parks. See the map below.

CSR has the best pool of the mods and probably the second best on WDW property.
Best mod pool (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=830638). It offers a great slide (123 ft long), an arcade, a sand volleyball court, and a playground at the main pool area.
Review from mousesavers.com!! (http://www.mousesavers.com/wdwresortfacts.html#moderate)
Coronado Springs is my Best Value choice in the Moderate category. It has several advantages compared with the other Moderate resorts. It is newer, so there has been less wear-and-tear on everything. Also, Coronado Springs is a convention hotel, so it has a few extra amenities not offered at the other Moderates, including a salon, a health club and a more upscale food court.
The theming is radically different in the three areas of Coronado Springs. You can request a specific area when booking but there is no guarantee you'll get your request.
The Spanish-style Casitas at Coronado Springs are very peaceful, with courtyards featuring tiled fountains. Casitas Buildings 1, 3 and 2 (in that order) are the closest to the restaurants and services. Casitas Building 4 contains the salon and health club, if those are important to you.
The Cabanas at Coronado Springs have a beachy Caribbean feeling. Cabanas Building 8A is very close to the feature pool, which may be a blessing (convenience) or a curse (noise, light). Cabanas Building 9B is closest to the marina and relatively convenient to the restaurants and services.
The Ranchos at Coronado Springs feel quiet and secluded -- some would say isolated -- and feature desert landscaping and pueblo-style architecture. They look closest to the main pool on a map, but in actuality they are separated from the rest of the property by a swamp, so it can be a fairly long walk from these buildings to the pool, and a very long walk to the restaurants.

Well I did it - I changed my reservation yesterday afternoon. I decided on POFQ - thanks to your help. Although Mario - you are very convinicing on CSR. I think if we werent taking the girls - I might have opted for CSR - but I think the pool slide at POFQ will be much more their speed. Only a month and a half away and I can't wait!!! :woohoo:

Hi fellow NE Diser!!!! We changed from ASMo to POFQ too. Our children will be turning 4 and 7 on the trip. When are you going? We're there 9/30-10/7. Hope you have a great time! We stayed at POFQ last Dec for the 1st time and LOVED it!!!!! The pool slide is perfect for little ones....the boat to DTD is very nice...and we walked over to POR and took advantage of their bigger gift shop too! Have a great trip!

Good choice! When DD was 1 1/2 we stayed at POR and really took advantage of the quiet pools. We never saw another single person in the pools the entire week we were there (Sept). The next year we choose POFQ and DD loved the dragon slide and the pool area. You made a good choice!

My kids have been enjoying POFQ since the youngest was 3, now is 11. They love the dragon slide and the whole atmosphere of the resort. It is so easy to get around because the size is smaller than most.
When my 11 yr old found out we were going to disney he brought out a old postcard we have on our fridge of the dragon slide and said ' I hope we are staying here.... (hope he won't be disapointed that were staying at WL this trip).
Anyway POFQ is wonderful for kids and adults of all ages...we thought the bus service was very good too, no driving for a whole week- heaven!!

if she acts like my niece she will not want to leave the pool to go to the parks....
even the MK didn't tempt her. and this was one person who loved Pooh!
but doesn't your son at 11 find the slide a little boring.... I would think CSR slide would appeal to that age so much more.

Hello Ms OJO!!! We are going for my DDs bday as well. We will be there Sept 21-25th.
Thanks for all the reassuring responses. I was a little disappointed we couldnt stay at ASMovies since I thought our DDs would really enjoy the theming. But I think in the long run this may be a blessing since they will enjoy the pool so much more. If FL is as hot in Sept as I remember it too be - we are going to be there alot!
