Hi!
Specifically I am interested in the rooms. I am thinking about switching my room from POFQ to POR so that we have the option of being near a quiet pool. The only thing is I don't know what the plantation mansions rooms look like and it's been awhile since I've seen pics of the rooms in the bayou.

Also - which do you prefer? Any help would be great!

:thanks:

I have some but I can't post them right now because I am on my way out the door, but wanted to mention that there is a POR thread with beautiful pics in it. We stayed at POR AB last July and really enjoyed it. DH didn't think he'd like the room style/decor based on the pics but he wound up loving it. We were in building 38 which was quite close to a quiet pool (with laundry facilities if you need them) but not so close that we could hear/see activity from it while in our room. It was perfect. I think the decor in the mansions area looks nice but it's too much my mom's taste for me to really like it hehe

Here are a few photos from our Dec. 05 stay. I like both sections but prefer the Bayou a bit more. I like the rustic feel of the rooms. The rooms in the Mansions are more formal feeling and I love the exteriors as it feels like you are staying in someone's estate.

I'm not the OP but thanks so much for posting the photos. They're great!!! We're staying at POR for the first time May 23-31 so I really enjoy seeing everyone's photos of the resort.
I have requested Alligator Bayou because I think my two teenage sons would like it better than the Mansions but the entire resort looks amazing. I can't wait until we're actually there!!!

The only request I had made was to be in the mansions in an elevator building since we had a stroller. They put us in Oak Manor which was perfect! We requested this building again for our Christmastime trip. As mentioned before, it is right across the bridge that leads back to the main buildings/main bus stop.

I've heard that Oak Manor is a smoking optional building. Did you notice any lingering odors?

I have beenin Building 38 and 14 in the Bayou. I did not request 14 but we got it and it is the closest to the food court and lobby and store. It was really convenient. I really like our spot in 38 as well. It was a longer walk to the food court but I love the grounds of the resorts so don't mind the stroll. 14, 15 are close to the food court. 16 is a bit farther away but still somewhat convenient.

since you have little kids - I would stick with POFQ

this slide
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1390&sort=1&cat=541&page=2

it is very, very tame - although looks a lot wilder....

here are pictures of POR
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=540

here are all the pictures of POFQ
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=541

little kids seem to love the slide at POFQ - almost as badly as Dumbo - they can stand in line with patience (something most kids don't have)

I certainly don't understand it - but I have seem it. No hour waits like Dumbo, but since the patience to do this thing....

have a good trip no matter what you decide.

You are not the only person I've heard this from! :teeth: I think a lot of people with kids had problems with the transportation, but we generally don't use the onsite transportation...we just found it easier with the stroller and such to take our rental car and park it at the parks. Do you have another reason why you don't think we would like POR with kids? I appreciate all the help!

Not at all. Our room was a non-smoking room. Plus Our room was spotless- and I'm pretty picky!!

The only smoking I saw was outside near the benches, next to an ashtray so it was fine with me!

We were there last October (same time frame as you) and had no issues with the buses ever. We always got a seat and the few times it was full, someone always gave up a set for me so I could sit with DS2.5 on my lap. Also, we never once shared a bus with POFQ to MK at any time during our trip. I really like this resort and can't say enough good things about it!

Thanks - since I HATE making major decisions (and 10 nights in a room we hate does seem pretty major to me), it really helps that you shared this! I think we will like POR...and if my DH or kids complain - they sleep in the car...
Is it wrong to HOPE they complain then??? :rolleyes1

I thought I'd post some pictures of what a King room looks like, thought it's not much different than the others!

We went to Disney July 17-22, and I didn't request the AB or Mansions, because I couldn't decide. I thought I'd let Disney make that decision for me. I guess I secretly wanted the Mansions, because AB seemed a bit rustic for my tastes, but we loved our room! And I think the "rustic-ness" (aka "manly-ness" for my husband) was good since he was just going along on this trip for me!

We were in Building 25, which seemed to take forever to get to from the front lobby and dining area, but it was pretty close to the West bus stop. We loved the West bus stop; some days it was the first stop, and if not, it was always second. The South bus stop (main bus stop) always seemed crowded when we stopped there (if West is picked up first, South is last). Also, West never had more than 10 people waiting for a bus, so it was nice and peaceful and relaxing before jumping into all the excitment!!

One word of caution about Water View Rooms. I requested this.. well, the helpful CM told me it was a good choice anyways, I didn't really know what I wanted. We had a beautiful view of one of the quiet pools (see picture below) and it was nice, but our first night there we were exhausted and it wasn't really all that "quiet" at the pool. We heard people till at least 2am. However, we were really tired so we managed to zone them out, and it was the ONLY night we dealt with that (thanks to some late night storms that pretty much cleaned the pools out by 11pm or so).

Here are some other POR pictures:

Those are GREAT pics! Thank you for sharing! I had heard somewhere if you want a view of the river you should specifically ask for a "River View". If you say water view you can end up with a view of the pool (which I agree with you isn't a bad view at all!)

THANK YOU!

WE were in the SAME building nov 19th-29th last year. We also requested a Water view room....AND we also had the same experience!!! spooky. We stayed up one night listening to kids screaming, and jamming ear plugs in my ears...Other that this issue ...we LOVED our room..and as you mention the bus stop is soooo quiet! I didnt mind the walk because the grounds are soooooo beautiful. In sum - I will NEVER request a water view room again.
BUT I WILL return to POR. :teeth:

(Not this Year though - we are going with a large family and will be staying off site. ) You will LOVE POR  ...5 yo slept on own bed....3yo who slept on the trundle bed and LOVED it - thought it was her special magic bed. :sunny:

I have a photobucket account (it's free) and I download my pics there. Then when I want to post them they have the link set up (it's the last one of three) that has the already added...

Does that make sense?

Mine look the same as everybody else's but I'll still share :goodvibes We were in building 16 with a courtyard view. It was a little bit of a walk to the food court and bus stops but the walk is so beautiful that you actually enjoy it. I didn't miss a water view at all, the view of the grounds is just as nice.

Our room, those are my two oldest kids enjoying the room to it's fullest...

Someone mentioned the pool at POFQ being better for little kids. It just might be, but it seemed very busy to me and I didn't like that it was out in the open for everyone on the ferry to DTD to see. Ole Man Island at POR is secluded and private. You have to cross a bridge to get to it...

They even have a baby pool...

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g101/HilOski1974/AB12.jpg

Ole Man Island looks like fun fun fun! Now, can you tell me which room to ask for where we do not have a huge walk to this pool? Preferably a room that is centralized, so we dont have to walk a long way to the food court, pool or bus stop. I dont care if its alligator bayou or the mansions, tho i think the mansions are so pretty. I think i'm going to buy an air mattress (twin) to slide under the bed for my DD22. thanks so much!

We'll be there in 8 days too! I keep telling everyone around that I get to go to Disney in 8 days. I think I am getting rather annoying, I better try to calm down some about it. I don't even want to think about the "being over" part. I always start to feel that way about day two of our trip. I am going to try not to think about it this time.

As the pp stated AB is the only area with trundle beds. You can request one when you make your ressie, but it is not guareenteed...UNLESS you have 5 people staying in the room (that is my understanding from other posts I've read on the DIS)...

Here's some more. One just 'cuz it's pretty and the other because it shows the landscaping in the AB area. We stayed in Bldg 15 in 2004 and have requested it again this trip.

We won't be there for a while but I am so excited about staying at POR. We have 5 going and were thinking of doing 2 value rooms but this has changed my mind. I booked POR for Sept 2007. Yeah!!

all your pictures are gorgeous. we stayed at POFQ last year and loved it but want to try a different resort next time but we enjoyed the boat to DTD so I'm tempted by POR. DH wants to stay at CSR and i must admit it looks lovely but i think he may be swayed by the boat.

we were at POFQ lat week. AND LOVED IT. Its def. smaller than POR Riverside and its easier to get around but I like the look of Por RIverside a little better. THe big deciding factor for us to stay at PORFQ was the bus. They share at times with riverside and they pick us up first which was important with my son being in a wheelchair. both are great though. id stay there again without a doubt...

Oh man, now that it's looking like we're going to upgrade and CSR is booked, I've been trying to decide which mod should be my first choice. I THOUGHT I had decided on POFQ. Until I stopped by here. :badpc: :lmao:

Okay, I'm off to find pics of CBR now so I can really confuse myself before heading off to bed.

Make sure you post a report when you return. We're moving our trip (I think) up to March and it's been 12 years since I've seen POR!

And don't post it in a bottle either. I may never see it. :lmao:

You are not the only person I've heard this from! :teeth: I think a lot of people with kids had problems with the transportation, but we generally don't use the onsite transportation...we just found it easier with the stroller and such to take our rental car and park it at the parks. Do you have another reason why you don't think we would like POR with kids? I appreciate all the help!

Our kids preferred POR over FQ. We stayed at POR and took the kids over to the pool and playground at FQ. They announced after 20 minutes..."let's go back to our place." They just hated the playground--it was very small. The pool slide was too tame, my kids were 8 and 5. We even visited the WL and ate at WC. I was hoping the kids would like the place enough to stay there on our next trip--nope--they only want to stay at POR. We used the bus system and our rental car. No real complaints. Wait at the end of EMH at MK was long, but that was the only time.

LOL!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I have been looking at all the moderates for our trip in october 2007. I am totally confused also, but not so much now since I looked at this thread. I was leaning towards POR since my kids will be 10 and 7. One of my DS looked at these pictures and said "I want to stay there. The waterslide is cool!!!". I think these pictures made my decision. I had heard how beautiful the resort was, but now I am convinced it is GORGEOUS!!! I am looking at the Alligator Bayou section because it is more outdoorsy and just more our style. Thanks for posting all the great photos!!!!

:lmao: I will definitely post pics and reports after our October trip..but I won't use the bottle format...I can't use smileys :dance3: there!

We don't hit the 45 day marker until the 1st of September so now I am in the long wait. This is more nerve racking than the 2 week wait when I was trying to get pregnant!

I stop by every so often to look at the pics and do a bit of dreamin'...my SIL is at WDW as I type this...I'm so jealous!

Yeah, but she'll be home when you're there!

I just booked my Destin hotel for our trip to WDW in March. I'm getting excited and my trip is still six months away!

I think I'm going to split our stay, with the first two nights at POR and the other five at the Poly. The thought of four adults and a 9-year old in one of those rooms, gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I figure I can do it for two nights, but I may be jumping in the river if I try to do it for the whole trip!

My SIL will definitely hear it from me! She missed my DD's birthday for Disney (and last year she missed her BIRTH for Disney)...lucky for me the weather here in WI has been wonderful and I smile thinking how she is sweatin' it up in WDW! hehe

I think you are right about the rooms too...even with the optional trundle bed it would be pretty cramped quarters...my other thought is book the Poly for 3 adults and a 9yr old and spend some blissful "alone time" at POR... :rotfl: Wouldn't that be nice!

It is HOT down here in the southern states right now! I can guarantee, she's sweating her tail-end off. :sunny:
