Glo, I only made it 4 times, too! I was hoping for five, but the same Saturday thing happend for me. Ours is opened on Saturday from 8:30 until 11:00. I usually can make it, but I had a commitment at the Spring Fair at my DD's school.
Anyhow, this morning I am so mad at myself for eating that da*n candy bar!
It was so not worth it!!! I'll be leaving for Curves in about 40 minutes. I can't wait to get weighed. I better not have gained from that stupid thing I'll let you know!
Update - I just got back. My weight stayed exactly the same. At least I didn't gain, but for working out as much as I did last week, and sticking to my diet (except for the candy bar), I should have lost something!

I went this morning and will try to make 4 times, but this is a short week. We are closed Good Friday and on Saturday too. Usually only open from 8-noon on Sat.
Mrs PH that was a high price to pay for that choc bar, that is my downfall.
Good luck everyone!!
Keep up the good work!

Hi everyone!
My name is Tricia and I usually hang out over at the DVC Board. I have been doing WW for 2.5 months now and have lost about 13 lbs. I need to lose over 50 more, and decided to give Curves a try after lurking over here. I joined yesterday and worked out yesterday and today. I love it! This is my first try at exercising since I was a teenager aside from walking. Unfortunately they are closed due to Passover two days this week and two days next and I am going away for Easter this weekend. I will try to visit another Curves in the area but they only gave me one travel pass. Do I hand that pass in when I go to another Curves, or can I use it a couple of times over the next few days at different locations?
Mrs. Potato Head
03-27-2002, 07:05 PM
Hi Tricia and WELCOME! You will love curves!
When I traveled, they too, only gave me one pass. They did take it, but told me I could come back anytime. I would ask to keep it, or have them give you another travel pass where you visit, just incase.
Do you have the little membership card, that you swipe when you go? If so, bring that and it will show proof of membership, too!
Good luck and have fun!
TriciaT
03-27-2002, 07:22 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot about the membership card. I can't believe I haven't exercised in years and I am stressing about missing a few days. It is so much fun it is addictive!
Thanks for the info.

Hi Tricia,
Welcome to the Curves Cult!! Er, I mean Group!! :D Like you, I think it is addicting! I am disappointed that I can only go 3 times this week! :)
Welcome to our group!
Cathy
Hi Tricia,
Welcome to our semi obcessive Curves thread!! I staherd 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. There isn't enough time in the workout to get board as you are constantly moving. I also love that is takes up only about 45 minutes of your time. I am all excited because I walked 11, .36 miles this week, did 375 crunches and went to curves 5 times this week. Our curves did not close for Good Friday or Sat. I get weighed in 2 weeks and can not wait. My weight has not budged, so I am hoping I am loosing inches. If not I will be very disappointed. Have a great Easter everyone!!

Glo, I heard the ladies say that no weight loss is not uncommon for the first measurement as the fat turns to muscle, but when you see the inches change and your clothes feel better, you feel better! :)
My next measurement is Tuesday and our Curves was closed Fri, Sat and of course today. :(

There is lots going on at our Curves! They are starting a new 30 day challange, and new 6 week challenge (the diet) and if we get 30 new members from referrels we will get a new glute machine. Since they opened 4 months ago, we have already gotten 2 other new machines. This will not be a 30 minute workout with all this new equipment!
I made it 4x last week, but this week I will be lucky to get there 3x. The kids are off school so I have to go when my DH gets home and that is difficult. I did go last night and will try for 2 more times.
Cathy, did you get measured today? How did you do? I am suppossed to get measured on Friday, but it will probably be on Monday instead.
Just started reading this thread - so far have only made it up to page 9.
So I may be asking questions that have been asked before.
I gather that each franchise may have a different number of machines.
Does anyone know the minimum number of machines that one
should have access to in order to get a good benefit?
The Curves in my area will not open until the end of the month,
I have an appt set up to check it out, but I'm wondering just how different each
franchise might be.

Hi dt!
I don't know the exact answer to your question, but I think that most are quite similar. I have been to two different locations (in different States) and machine wise they were almost identical. I believe that when a new franchise is opened they all have the same equipment, which is about 10 different machines, plus the recovery stations. New equipment is added when there is a certain number of new members. Our Curves has been opened for 4 months now, and we already have two new machines, and are working on getting another! If you work all of the machines that they have in the circuit (and you will), you will benefit greatly!
Let us know when you go and if you join! It really is a great place!
Thanks Mrs PH - that is what I needed to know.
I don't go until 4/22, and I'm of the mind thought that I will join
as long as I feel comfortable there.
Right now I'm doing the treadmill at home, but know I need
to do a total body workout and I just don't do it at home
like I could.
This thread has really perked my interest in it. I just saw the ad
that a Curves was opening in the next town and that is all
the incentive I needed after reading all the great posts here.
So glad you all are doing well with it - it certainly is an intriguing
concept, and I'm looking forward to trying it.

Hello Curves ladies! How is everyone? So far this week I have made it M-T-W! I will miss TH, but will be there Fri. I love it when I can get four days in. When I went yesterday, one of the owners was walking around correcting everyone who was doing the machines wrong. I was doing two of them wrong. It is amazing what a difference it makes (and how much more you feel it) when you are doing them right! We just started a 30 day challange, and I signed up for that. I was weighed and measured last Friday. From my last weight and measurement one month ago, I am down 1.5 lbs. and a total of 3.74". I am happy with that! For the first time since I joined my abdomen is smaller than my ****s!!!!!:D That made me quite happy!

Hi everyone,
Yesterday was two weeks since my first workout at Curves. I am really enjoying it and feel great that I am finally exercising and can't wait to see some results. My last two weigh ins at WW have been two one pound gains. I am not sticking to the program very well. I am making good choices when eating, but not counting points which probably means I am going over. I am not sure if I'll make it to WW tomorrow night because of a conflict with my kids' schedules, but I may be able to run in and get weighed. Hopefully I lost this week. I keep telling myself to get that journal out, but haven't yet.
Anyway, I hope everyone is having a great week. I've made it to Curves S-M-T-W so far this week, will definitely skip Saturday and probably Thursday if I go to WW instead.
Take care,
Tricia

Where is everyone?! Surely I can't be the only one still going to Curves!!! Come out, come out where ever you are!!!!!
We have 40 new members, so now we are getting a new Glute Machine. Sounds kinda scary, doesn't it! On Thursday we are having Bring your daughter to Curves, day. They will be doing crafts with the girls. My DD is so excited! She is counting the days!

I am still going!!!! 3 times a week every week. In 2 months I have lost 8 inches overall!! not bad since I have not really been watching what I eat like I should be!!!!!
MaryJ
04-22-2002, 10:49 AM
I've been wondering the same thing! I'm still going. Won't get measured until next month. I'm even thinking about skipping a month and getting measured in June. Maybe I'll see greater (and more encouraging) results that way!:)
I tried going back to Weight Watchers two weeks ago (I am a Lifetime Member). Then last week they closed the class because they didn't have enough paying members (20) to keep it open. It really bothers me that there are people like me who really want to try to make a positive change in their eating habits, but the places that can help you aren't there because their in it for the almighty dollar! There is a WW class in the next city (about a 25 minute drive) and I am thinking about going there instead after school gets out.
The take your daughter to Curves idea sounds like fun. I think I'll mention it to our owner. I think it would even be good for the teenage girls (like mine) because they could see just how fun fitness can be.

I am still going! I LOVE that place!!! My first measurement was on The 18th. I lost 13.75 inches in one month!!! Weight Watchers and Curves are a good combo for me!!

laurenK and Jiminy102 that is WONDERFUL! You must feel so good! Keep it up!
MaryJ, that really is too bad about WW. It is discouraging to have to drive so far, just to go to a WW meeting, but if it will help you stay on track it would be worth it.
Have you guys noticed my tag. How embarrasing!!!:o

hello. i usually lurk on the CB but came over here looking for some weight loss inspiration. and boy did i find it! and much to my amazement there is a Curves where i live. yippee! i am trying to get my best friend to go with me to check it out next week. the 1 drawback i can see right now is the location. it's all the way across town and in the ritzy area to boot. i'm hoping it feels friendly when we go over there next week.
i told Tommy about the program and how excited i was getting just from reading your posts and he is excited for me and is encouraging me to check it out. he is sooooo good to me. :)
congratulations to all of you doing this and on your weight and inches loss. i'm looking forward to the day when i can post my achievements in Curves!

Anyone ever think of opening a Curves franchise?
Mrs. Potato Head
04-29-2002, 06:29 AM
Gilllian, as a matter of fact, yes I have. Curves has been consistantly rated as one of the best franchises to own. It is not expensive to buy into the franchise (around $19,000), but the royalties and rent (expecially around here) are what get you. The women who own our Curves pay 2x the recommended amount of rent, and it took Curves 6 months to research and approve this location. They put an additional $15,000 into this location in decorating, retrofitting, etc. I do not think that you could rely on one for a sole source of income, but I do think within a couple of years, you could show a decent profit.
Gillian
05-01-2002, 02:04 PM
Mrs. P, are rents very expensive in general near you? What does your Curves charge monthly? My location is 29, but another location the next town over charges more because their rent is higher. It may be nicer as well, but I've never been there. The one I go to is very plain. I can't imagine that they spent very much on fixing it up!
I read over the materials & the royalties do seem high.
Mrs. Potato Head
05-01-2002, 02:27 PM
I pay $29.00/month. One just opened in the next town and it is also $29.00, but it is not nearly as nice. Ours has really nice carpet, two big dressing rooms with really pretty curtains, a nice big (and pretty) bathroom, and in general the decorating is beautiful. Our walls are painted a dark rose color, with one wall being a dark teal. The new one that just opened is much smaller, and all white. I was under the impression that they all had to charge the same amount, which is determined by Curves.
Not only did I find the royalties to be high, but you are also required to sign a 10 year contract, that no matter what, the royalties will be paid for this duration, even if you have to close. That is a commitment I am not sure I am ready to make!
To answer your first question, Gillian, yes, rents are high where I live. We are in Metro Detroit, and real estate in general is very expensive. I am not exactly sure, but I think the owners of the location I go to pay around $2,400.00 a month, just for rent.
Gillian
05-02-2002, 07:25 AM
Now I don't want to start trouble, but I know that one of the curves bear me is charging new members more than that. They have permission from curves. I don't know what their rent is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is around $2000. Central NJ is pretty expensive!
If you sell the franchise do you still have to pay royalites, or does the new owner have to pay them?
I think the one I go to used to be a restaurant. It doesn't look like they did a whole lot. The walls are burgundy & the floor is black & white vinyl tiles. There are 2 bathrooms/dressing rooms & an area for stretching. They have 11 machines now and they just fit! The township is very large & there are many many strip malls so maybe they picked this location (not the greatest) because it was affordable for a new business. If they move to a nicer place or bigger place they won't lose a lot of money.
Mrs. Potato Head
05-02-2002, 10:08 PM
Gillian, I don't know what happens if you sell the franchise. I would think that the new owner would pay the royalties. My concern would be if you owned one, and had to close it for some reason, you would be stuck. I don't know. Part of me really wants to look into it further, but another part of me is not sure if I really want that type of commitment right now.
Our Curves is in a brand new strip center, so there was not anything else there before. Everything is new. I would imagine that Central NJ is more costly than it is here. We have 11 machines now, and a Glute machine on the way. There is room for about one more, then it will get pretty tight. Our stretching area is small, but that has not really been a problem.
Anyhow, I still really enjoy Curves! I don't think I have ever really stuck to anything like I have this. It has done so much for me, both physically and mentally. I feel so much better than I have in a very long time. I have to say I look much better too. Now, if these last 10 lbs. would just fall off of me, I would be very happy!
Gillian

I've only been going for a few weeks, and I was sick for 2 of those, but I really like it, too! Between Curves & Atkins, the weight really DOES fall off! Have you tried Atkins? It's awesome!
BTW, my curves said that people who come 3 times a week lose more that people who go 4 times a week. Isn't that funny? I haven't had a weigh in yet, so we'll see how the 2x a week people do
Mrs. Potato Head
05-06-2002, 09:32 AM
Well, today was measure day. It's getting slower, but it is still coming off. Since last month I have lost 2 more lbs. and a total of 1.5" and 1/2% body fat. This is a total of 19 lbs. , 12.25 inches, and 3.2 % body fat since January.
Gillian, I did the Curves six weeks challange which is basically the same diet as Atkins. I did great on in. When the six weeks ended (about 11 weeks ago), I continued on Atkins. I really do like this diet. I am not as diligent as I should be, but my eating habits sure have changed for the better! Atkins is wonderful, and I would recommend it to anyone!

This was my best month ever at Curves!:D :D :D I'm a slow loser, and have had some ups and downs, so when I measured today and had lost 3.5 lbs., I was thrilled! That makes a total of 4.5 lbs. I also lost another inch for a total of 2.75 inches and 1% in body fat. I also lost 2# in mass for a total of 2.5#. I am doing the happy dance here in Indiana!
The people at Curves think it's amusing that I have my internet buddies that I report to, but you are my greatest encouragers. Thanks everyone!

I just had my first measurement at Curves! I am so excited! In my first month I lost 6 pounds, 5 3/4 pounds body fat, 2 1/2% body fat and a total of 15 inchs! My butt got kind of flat but they say it will get rounder (again, but in a different way?) soon. I'm in my 3rd month of doing Atkins also.
I've 20 pounds to go, unless I get pregnant :D
I really enjoy the workout now, and can feel muscles in new places! Thanks to everyone here for reccommending Curves :)

I'm back!! I was embarassed because I had actually gained inches at my last measurement. The owner asked if I was to get my period soon and I said yes and she showed me that I was retaining water (which I knew because my rings were so tight) and said we will re-measure AFTER my period to get a better idea. Worked for me. I have been faithfully going 3 times a week.
I have to thank you ladies. I was really down after my last measurement and really had a hard time going back but I kept thinking of you all and it inspired to keep at it.
Thanks!!

Well I haven't been measured in a couple month, but I got measured today and since January, I have lost 12 1/2 inches and 6 lbs. The lbs is more upsetting to me. I have not posted on here for quite awhile as I feel like such a failure. I can not seem to get my head in the game regarding the lbs. I lose a couple, gain a couple etc. It seems I eat when I am stressed and when I get the stressed solved in one place of my life, it gets out of control somewhere else! Anyways...I was surprised that I lost inches and that gave me a boost to my morale and makes me want to try again.

Great job Laurie & Cathy! Never give up! I know what it's like to have bad days, & even bad weeks. All you can really do is just start over :)
I track my weight every day, and those silly hormones sure do mess with it! I use excel to make a chart & every cycle I see the same pattern of ups & downs. Sometimes it's so annoying!

Hi,
I am a big Curves fan. I lost 17 lbs. last summer with Curves and WW. This summer I hope to lose the last 17 to take me to goal weight.
I go to the Curves in Central NJ that Gillian mentions - it is more expensive than the prices cited on the last page. (The one you're mentioning is in a town that starts with W, right Gillian?) I used to go to Gillian's, which is in a town that starts with H? That one got really packed, big lines, so I switched to the W one. I love it, they really have done a beautiful job. There is tons of Bath and Body Works stuff everywhere, I come out of there smelling quite fresh and fruity. :) It's just white and crisp and new, it's really lovely.
My calves are killing me from the glut machine. I just started doing that machine when I switched to W, and I think I'm doing it wrong. Next time I go (Wednesday) I am going to ask for instructions.
:D Dana
Gillian
05-13-2002, 04:38 PM
Yes, that's right dana! :D How did you switch to the other one? there's one opening in P, where my mom lives, so I'd like to be able to drop off my 2 year old & go work out there sometimes. A friend of ours works at the W one in the mornings.
The owner of my curves is opening her 3rd one! They are gonna be rich! I'd love to open my own, but I'm not sure this is a good time for me. And I'd need a partner.
Is the glut machine the one where you squat? I just checked & I'm doing it right. At first I couldn't sit down all the way, but now I can. It gets my heart rate going! I do pretty well with lines there. there is a big 6:30 am crowd, so I get there at 7, when it empties. I can also go in the afternoon & mondays are the only bad day.

Hey! I had a student membership at H, so when the three month period was up I just signed up for a new student membership at W. So Sue and Julie are opening up a third Curves? Good for them!
I don't think H has a glut machine, but there is one at W. The squat machine is different (who else thinks that the squat machine is the toughest piece of equipment at Curves !?! ME!!!). The glut machine involves standing, leaning forward and pushing back on a hydraulic resistor. It really firms up the patootie, but my calves are feeling it big-time! :)
Gillian
05-14-2002, 09:49 AM
I'm not sure if it's Julie & Sue. They have 1 together, Julie & DH have another one, Sue has a third one, and this is yet another one, but I'm not sure with who. I didn't get to ask.
I think we have that machine. It has a long thing that you lean on? And you do one leg at a time? I don't think that's supposed to hurt your calves! Do you bend your resting knee a little?
Julie said I can get a visitor pass to go to WW sometimes. I have to check it out & say hi to Carla!
I am being lazy today. I have to go to the dentist & then drag myself over to workout. Please send me some energy! :)

d d I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it.... (sorry that was the best I could do with a music note! ;)
The last time I was measured was 2 days before my period and I have been retaining water like crazy so I was sooooo depressed at the results, but today......wooohooooo!!
I lost a total of 6 1/2 inches!!!!!!! Including 4" off my abdomen (did I tell you I was bloated?) and 4 1/4" off my thighs. It has been almost 6 weeks since my last measurement too.
I have been doing extra ab work at home and this will only spur me on! :)
Still doing the happy dance!!!

Today at Curves I forgot what station I started at! That's what I get for not paying attention. I try and start at the station in front of the squat machine, so that I can get that one out of the way first. Do you have a usual "starting station"?
Also, I wonder if all Curves are laid out the same way. This is the order of our machines (starting at no particular point):
squats
tummy crunches (in seated position)
flash-your-crotch machine (you girls all know the one that I mean, the inside-outside thigh machine)
bicep curls
glute machine (stand, push your leg out behind you)
oblique (turn side to side, work your tummy)
front thigh curls (sit, ankles between the pads, straighten and bend your legs)
chest/back (pushing horizontally)
quadriceps (feet on the board, push out quickly)
back (pulling vertically).
My old Curves used to go backwards through the order on Wednesdays, but my new Curves does not.
Is this the order of your Curves? :)
laurenk
05-21-2002, 05:57 AM
That is the order of our machines. Too funny about where you start. I start in the same spot for the same reason. I am bummed though, beacause after next week, I can't go for six weeks. I am having gall bladder surgery:( I have lost 16 inches in 2 months. When I start back mid-July, I will have to begin all over again.
Mrs. Potato Head
05-21-2002, 08:22 AM
Dana, too funny! I always have to start at a "corner" or else I get lost!!! I don't know why, I have the hardest time starting in the middle! Our machines are not in the same order as yours. As a matter of fact, once every couple of weeks they change them around! It keeps thing interesting.
Lauren, I pray all goes well with your surgery. Take care of yourself! 16" in 2 months, that is awesome!

Curves just opened in my town. My DH brought home the paper about it. I want to check it out but heard they don't have babysitting. I am hoping to join at the end of June when DD #2 and DD#2 will be in summer camp for the month of July and DD #1 will be old enough to stay at home while I go.
I will be lurking around this thread and have read half of it so far!!
Sounds like everyone is happy with Curves.

Jiminy - 9th place is great! I would be thrilled with that. I got measured, etc. yesterday and I stayed exactly the same everywhere as last month. I really am not surprised, since I had quite a few binges here and there. At one point during the month I was up 4 lbs. so at least I took that back off! I still love going! I Hope everyone is doing well.

Well ladies after spraining my foot and then going on my cruise, I am going back to Curves today. You know I really do miss my workouts. I am really excited about going back.

I just joined today--and this board was a big reason! I've been gaining weight for the past 7 years and I've finally decided I can't do it alone and at home. I'd like to lose 25-30 pounds but since it took 7 years to gain it, I doubt it'll come off quickly. Anyway, I just loved my first workout! I can't wait to go again tomorrow!

I just joined Curves too. I've had one workout so far. I haven't read through this whole thread, but I was wondering if any of you have lost a significant amount of weight or inches. I'm excited and I really enjoyed the workout, I'm hoping to lose at least a few inches.
I can't believe I saw this thread. I had lost forty pounds after a year of trying. But then my husand got sick and was in the hospital for 3 months and has been sick for a total of 6 months so far. I ate my way back to the old weight by eating out of machines in the hospital. I am so mad at myself, but by finding this thread I found that there is a Curves right down the street from where I work. I will go there every night after work and see what happens, at the very least I will get a good work out. Thanks for the information.

I read with interest a post that said "BTW, my curves said that people who come 3 times a week lose more that people who go 4 times a week. (posted by Gillian). Anyone have any guesses as to why that would be? I also read in the book "Make the Connection" by Oprah's trainer Bob Greene that you need to exercise aerobically 20 minutes 5X a week in "the zone" in order to get your metabolism up and thus burn more calories. A section about "circuit training" said that this wasn't an efficient way to do that. Would Curves be considered "circuit training" since it also adds in the jogging stations? Anyway, I'm wondering what everyone does on their non-Curves days. I was intending to go at least 4x a week and walk on the off-days. I'm somewhat obsessive and I really want this to be the year to get the weight off!

I go 3 or 4 times per week, and on my off days I run a mile or so. When I get to 140 lbs, I am going to start training for the fall 5K races in the area, which I love.
Any exercise will help you lose weight. Once per week, five times per week, circuit training, running ... they all help. There's no magic recipe.
I cannot believe how much I still enjoy going to Curves. I usually hate the gym beyond a month or so! :D

Dana,
I am like you, I am surprised I am not getting bored at all. I am getting to know a lot of the ladies and it is really quite a social club. I think the 30 minutes part helps a lot!

So I go to one of the local Curves, only to find the door locked since they close from 1:00 to 2:00pm. :(
OK, I'll drive to the other location. It's on a main road, so I'm thinking it stays open. Surprise, surprise!!!:(
I'm stuck waiting in a little strip mall, with an Oreck, Talbot's (which has about 2 things that I can fit in), Country Curtains, and a BAKERY. I managed to avoid the latter.
Curves opened, and, I've got to confess, I wanted to laugh when I first got a look at it. It's so tiny, and there's that disembodied voice instructing you. It wasn't what I expected, but it looks like fun. I have an appt. to try it out on Monday.

I did it I did it!!! I have a Jane Fonda Step Arobic tape that is something like an hour long. I knew I would never get through an hour but thought I would see what I could do. I did about 25 min of the tape then used my hand weights and kept going for another 5 including a few stretches!! I am sweating more than I ever do at CUrves but it is also warmer here than at curves. I hated it and loved it at the same time. THink I can do it again tomorrow?????????

Sure you can do it tommorow!! Keep it up. I made it this AM too. Can you believe that two women snuck in. They went to book like they were signing in and went to exercise. The attendant checked and saw they didn't sign in. She asked them if they signed in and they said - we will. About 10 minutes later they left after going around twice. It was slow and they would of been the last ones there and probably figured they better get out while the going was good. Jeez - the nerve of people!
Well I finally went today and signed up at Curves. I am really to start tomorrow. Wish me luck.
I leave for Disney in three weeks and I hope my shorts are a little more comfortable by then.

Good Luck Lynr!!! Curves does make your cloths loser!! Drinlk alot of water too. I am in WDW 8/16 - 8/29 - how about you?
I have been four times this week! Getting ready for the trip!
Niagara2:
I am supposed to be at Disney 8/23 - 9/2 with my son. However, my husband was re-admitted to the hospital yesterday, so our plans maybe on holding depending on the outcome of his tests. Hopefully it is only a minor setback. Say a prayer for us. He has already been sick for 6 months and has only been back to work 2 weeks and now he is out again.

So sorry to hear that Lyn. Will definitely keep you both in my prayers.
On my off days from Curves, I use the Mari Winsor Pilates tapes and they are terrific. The first time I tried the "buns and thighs" one I couldn't walk the next day! :)

Lyn - our prayers our with your family for a fast recovery for your husband. Its a bummer to have to cancel, hopefully your DH gets better fast and a vacation will be just what the Doctor ordered
I just wanted to update you. It looks like our trip is still on. My husband will probably come home tomorrow or Sunday. Even though he isn't going with us I wouldn't go if he was still sick.
Thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers, they did the trick.

We got an oblique machine at our Curves, but.......we can't use it yet because one of the pieces (the rubber piece that goes between your legs) is missing. I have heard both good and bad things about this piece of equipment on these boards, but I can't wait to try it!
I've been very hit and miss about going to Curves over the summer. Too many things to do with my DD's home from school. Now that they are all back in school (one is a first year teacher!), I hope I can be more regular about getting into Curves.

I'm joining Curves tomorrw. My SIL owns one - but it's too far away for me to go to - bummer:(
I don't know what their sign-up fee is or their monthly, but I gotta do it! I went to SIL Curves yesterday so that they could do a "mock" interview for a new employee - I was shocked at my body fat % - and I weigh more than I ever have before (even pregnant - which was 20 years ago!)
I need to talk DH into getting a treadmill too - he needs to exercise and lose weight too - & I figure I could use it on my non-Curves days!
SIL is in the process of opening a 2nd Curves and this one has only been open for 2 months! - I think she's nuts to open a 2nd one so soon - but she made the commitment, so she needs to get it open. It looks like she has some nice employees.
How's everybody doing?

So I joined Curves today, got home and my Mom shows me the little local newspaper with an ad for a Curves opening at the end of the month DOWN THE STRRET from me! So I called the new one and she happened to answer the phone and said I could transfer to her store once she opens. (or I could cancel the membership I just bought and wait and sign up with her.) I'd probably only save about $30 by joining the newer one. The one I joined today has 10 machines and is open on Saturday mornings, and I'm sure the new one will have the 8 machines and she won't have Saturday hours right away. So now I need to decide whether to go ahead and work out or wait and start in a month.
(am I talking to myself here? does anyone come to this board anymore?)

Glo-
I wasn't very good this summer either. I went, but not very often. Didn't follow WW too faithfully either, which is really stupid since I had made my goal and was working on lifetime. Well, now that my twins are back in school I have NO excuses. This was my first week in forever that I went to Curves 4x and stayed on track for WW. It felt GREAT to go back to both. If I can do it, so can you. :D
CC- Good luck on WW! Drink LOTS of water. It really helps!!

I've ben going 3X a week for two weeks. I've already noticed that I have less trouble with my knees. I'll transfer to the new (closer) one once it opens.
C'mon ladies - let's get back to Curves!! We know we need the exercise!!!

Glad to see this thread again! We are having a contest at our local Curves, but as it is a national contest, I'm sure that many of you have heard about it. There is a list of 31 things to do during the month of January. If you do 15 things before Jan. 15, you can put your name in a drawing for prizes. One of the things on the list is: "Find a Curves buddy to share your workout habit." I would like for all of the people who see this thread to be my "buddy." My workout habit basically consists of walking around my neighborhood and Curves. Haven't done either one today, but plan to leave for Curves in about 20 minutes. How about it? Anyone want to "buddy up" with me?

Count me in MJ! (& count on me too!) My sis & I encourage each other to go. I feel better when I DO go (altho I'm having trouble with my left knee - I can't do the "squat" machine.) So, I'll check in here at least once a week - I usually get to Curves 3X each week. Good luck!
I have an appointment for tomorrow morning. I'm doing the free week trial that they are having. I'm really excited and I hope that I like it.

Ladies,
I just joined Curves last night... It opened in my town about 2 weeks ago! Am going tonight for my first workout! It is great to see so many other women enjoy it and are seeing results. :)
Good luck to everyone in their quests for losing a few inches. :)

:D I did a search to find this thread. I popped into the Curves for Women this morning while my oldest was out job hunting. I have an appointment for tomorrow morning to start the free week (March break, here, although the place is actually @ 5.8 minutes from my job. :jester: )
So...is anyone at the beginning of this epic thread still going to Curves? Did you find that the interest waned over the year. And is it possible to pay month-by-month rather than the automatic withdrawal??
Enquiring minds want to know.
MaryJ

Yes, I'm still going to Curves. I'm well into my second year. I think you can pay month by month, but I'm not sure. I do know that if you pay for an entire year by credit card, you get a price break.

Hi Debbie, Thanks for bumping up this thread!;) I just joined Curves last month and so far, so good. I really do like it. I, like you, would be very interested to hear from those who started this thread as to what their thoughts are now.
Perhaps we should start a new thread.....Curves Part II??
To answer your question (which they will probably do for you at Curves): If you pay month by month it's $10 more than if you do auto withdrawal for 12 months. Here it's $29/month (auto) or $39/month (by check or cash).
I decided to make the 12 month committment.
Good luck to you!
