Cucumber Salad

My late mother in law used to make a cucumber salad that was delicious. It had cucumbers, onions, sugar and egg whites as part of the recipe. I can't remember the rest or the exact name of the recipe, its a "warm fuzzy" and I was hoping perhaps someone else may know the rest or the name of the recipe?

That was back when you rarely heard of salmonella......... I am very sure.
