View Full Version : Refillable Boardwalk mugs
I was glad to see that finally Boardwalk has refillable mugs without an added charge after purchasing the mug. A small thing but something that we really use. They can be purchased at the bakery and refilled at places on the boardwalk that serve quick [verses sit-down meals] food, including the Boardwalk pool.
I didn't see it advertised anywhere and just happened to notice it in the bakery so thought I'd share with everyone in case anybody is interested!

Thanks for the update - we won't be there until June, but I hope it's still in place when we get there. :p

Are the mugs different from the mugs they use to sell that cost $.99 per refill????

That's great for coffee on the long stays.
Please elaborate, CLC! We purchased 6 BW mugs over the last year, for @ $4 each, then had them refilled at the bakery for @$1. On our trip this past Sept., the bakery items all went up by $.25 or $.50, but the refills went down to $.75($.80 with tax), as the castmember and I were laughing about it(I was excited to save $.11 on each refill, and did not notice I spent an extra $2 on the baked goods!) We were told the only place to get the mugs refilled was the bakery or the bar at the pool(we have never taken our mugs to the pool, so I can't confirm this). If this has changed, please give the details, as we are trying to figure out a way to keep our New Year's reservation(hubby's work schedule has changed) and I have a feeling we will be drinking LOTS of hot chocolate(like last year;) Thanks!

how much the mugs cost - because at the Grand Floridian this June, the refillable mugs were $9 . (After paying the $9, the refills were 'free', however) Hmmmmm... :)

Yippie!! Thanks for the update. We always loved our refillable mugs at Dixie Landings. I am thrilled that they have implemented the same deal at our new home away from home, the Boardwalk.:D
Hi everyone-to answer some of your questions-
The mug was $9.99 [the one at Vero last week was $9.50]
Refills are free-no more .99 charge
And the cast member said it was 'good forever'.
We tried to clarify this-and asked what would happen if we brought our mugs back next summer, next winter, etc. and she repeatedly stated they were 'good forever'.
Now this would be different than other refillable mugs, which are usually good for your stay [or until the pattern changes]....so I hope this part is accurate!
We do drink enough to justify the cost...
Hope this info helps!

.I've never heard a CM say it,but we purchased PO mgs in '98 during the 25th aniv. With the big 25 on them it was very obvious they weren't current yr mugs when we used them at PO on our '99,00 & may '01 trips and no one bothered us at the refill island. However, I guess since they closed POFQ recently it doesn't matter anyway.

So I guess that leaves OKW as the only on-site resort without a refillable mug program with free refills. That disappoints me.

Just looked at my old mug from Boardwalk.. It has Donald pushing Daisy along the Boardwalk in some type of Surry and she's holding an umbrella. Are the new ones different? I have a collection (Cruise, PO, DX, new combined PO/DX, Animal Kingdom lodge, Poly,WL, Fort Wilderness, Beach Club and Grand Californian at DL) I always bring the mugs along accordian to which resort I plan to visit or stay.. I've never had a problem refilling any of these. Even at PO last July when I had an old mug the cashier told me I could still use it, tho I did buy one of the new styles anyway.
So are these new mugs different from the ones I described or do I need to buy a new one when I'm there? Just trying not to bring anything I can't use anymore. We're staying at both BWV and WLV ,3 days each for a short trip in DEC and trying to pack light....

Looks like you're going to have to join the other team now too :)
What the heck, it's only an add on!

On one of the other boards there was a huge battle a while back about whether or not refillable mugs were good for life...some were told no and some were told yes and it was a neverending battle with lots of namecalling, etc....(kind of like the discussions of room limits here sometimes!)
But anyway, I'm thrilled to hear BWV has a refillable mug program...we'll have to get WL and BW mugs on our next trip to add to our collection...we have CS, FW, Poly, and CBR so far. Cool!

Refillable mugs are the greatest thing since the wheel. My wife and I were at Dixe Landings for our honeymoon last year, and I can't tell you how funny it was to see all the Dads (for some reason, it was almost entirely Dads...) wandering sleepily through the morning fog on the winding Dixie Landings walkways towards Boatwright's, carrying three or four mugs to fill with coffee and soda for the rest of the family.
I guess all those DL mugs are collector's items now, huh?

This is awesome news!!! :D It's so good, in fact, that I'm not going to completely believe it until I have my first free refill behind me.
I would like to ask for a little clarity on one point: When you say that you can get it refilled anywhere on the boardwalk that isn't a "sit down" restaurant, does that include the coffee stand? And the hotdog stand? I wonder if the beverages you can choose are limited?
Can't wait to try it out!!

That was the best description I've heard yet. :D :D
I was laguhing out loud and my DH came in to see why. After he read it, he said "Yeah, and I was probably one of them!" That's why I was laughing. But he only carried 2 mugs as there are only the 2 of us!
Before we bought BWV DL was our favorite and still holds a special place in our hearts. I was very disappointed when they merged with PO, but as you can see.....it's DL that has survived!!

LOL - What makes you think they were for the rest of the family? Speaking as a Dad, one cup aint enough!
I doubt the coffee cart will be part of the program. I asked a CM about refillable mugs and they mentioned the cart as part of the problem as it is an independant contractor and people kept tryring to get the old mugs filled there.
Hi-I am not sure either about the carts but I don't think they are included-sorry for not being able to be more specific! We go to the bakery often-probably a bit too often.....
The refills are at least coffee and soda...at Vero we were able to get coffee, soda, ice tea and lemonade [no hot chocolate].
Anyway, enjoy.

I wouuld like to go on record and say that the most deciding item in joining DVC was the refillable mug program...... I figured that my family and I over 42 years would save well over 250.00 on the ever rising cost of soda and coffee.
I hope that Disney does not cancel this widely popular program. With EE and E-Nights currently shelved I'm not sure my family can take much more of the cuts..... What's next, bring your own towel to the pools, Clean your own place on trash and towel day. Heck, I've even heard rumors that we may have to start making our own reservations.
I'm not sure my family can take much more.
The mugs have a white background with a beach scene and say Boardwalk on them.
I would love it if we could use all of our mugs anywhere-I am hoping when we go back to Vero the second week of Dec the mugs will still be the same!

That's great - I'll remember that.
Hi disneydawn 6-
I am sorry I can't remember if it is the exact mug you described-it did have a beach umbrella on it I think....I wish I could be more help. I understand about trying to pack light and we also have a great collection of mugs (we have the old Dixie Landings mug)
We didn't notice the mugs until the day we left and were only there one night this time so didn't buy them-we will be back the second week of Dec-a split vacation between disney and vero.

does anyone have a description of the NEW BWV mugs?

Why is it that OKW has such a poor mug program? OKW is my favorite resort, but this really bothers me. The mug costs $10 and then refills are $1.65, as opposed to $1.89, big whoopie. I'd have to buy 42 cups of coffee to break even.
Someone once told me it's because the resort has kitchen facilities to make coffee....well so do BWV, WLV and many others who have much better mug programs. I don't mind paying something, like at the BW where they pay 75 cents, but what they have at OKW is useless.

This is too funny--I'm sitting here drinking iced tea out of my mug w/Donald pushing Daisy on the BW. I also got some "Have a great fourth of July" mugs with Tinkerbell on them this summer.
I have a POly 2000 mug--maybe I'll take it back next month just in case.
I'm also glad refills will now be complimentary--I'm definately packing the BW mug in July.
