I'm looking at the Sigma 70-300 APO (I? II??). Does anyone know if there is a real difference between APO and APO II (I assume II is obviously a more recent model; wonder if there are significant improvements)?
The reason I ask is that I will probably buy this lens used off eBay, and it is hard to tell sometimes whether it is a I or a II. Just wondering if I should care, if the I has some real weaknesses.
TIA!! :wave2:

i've never seen APO II?? i had a look at their webpage and they don't say anything about II. do you want to PM me the link on eBay and i'll have a look?
the APO glass is much better than the standard sigma glass. you will really notice colour rendition and absense of chromatic anomalies.

Yeah, Oblio, I don't see anything on the Sigma site either. Looks like the newer(??? my guess) ones come in a gold box and say "Sigma APO f4-5.6 II" or something close to that.
Thank you for your offer - I will try to find the link tonite (gotta get back to work now  )

I only know of APO and non-APO version, The former which gives far better quality.

i'm pretty sure the 18-125 ever came out after they dropped the gold box style. it should be in a black box with a red stripe. if they've gone back to a gold box then it's something new that i've never seen and they don't talk about it on any of their websites.
