I noticed nobody had started an August Exercise Challenge thread yet so I figured I might as well do it this time. Anyone want to join me?

I don't know how to make clipart though so here is last year's clippie (unless anyone wants to do a new one):

http://sunnyshopper.com/augustexercise.gif

To add it in your signature, just copy and paste the following, but remember to replace the { } with [ ]

{img}http://sunnyshopper.com/augustexercise.gif{/img}

I will update the list as often as possible. I am thinking I will use this color for those that reach the halfway point and I will use this color for those who reach their exercise goal for the month.

Please feel free to jump in and let me know what goal you're aiming for and let's all have fun getting our minutes in for the month! I think I am aiming for 1000 this month. Who's with me?

Congratulations to RhondaW for being the first to reach her goal!!! :sunny:

Thanks, Tasha!

I am in for 1200.

I figure with the 1/2 marathon in mid-September this is my last month to get the miles in on long training sessions before I have to taper.

Here we go. ... :cool1:

The great thing about the challenge is it is flexible. It is more of a way for people to stay motivated and feel accountable, as well as receive support from fellow WISHers, than anything else. That means that you can do this however is most convenient for you. If you feel like you would like to post your total for each day you may. If you only want to update weekly, that's okay too. Or you may just want to post when you reach a certain amount. Basically you can post your min. as often or as little as you like as long as I have your completed total for the month by the end of August! Good luck!

Okay, everyone, tomorrow's the first day of August! Good luck to all! :)

If I count canoeing (I was the only paddler to actually propel the boat!) and a hike as the actual work outs I'll just call it 120 minutes.

Do you own any exercise equipment at home? Do you own anything like exercise videos/dvds? Those are a couple of options that I can think of. If you don't have anything like that, do you like to run? You could go jogging. If you don't enjoy running then you could always walk. I know it is hot outside but you could always walk around your mall or something like that. Those are just a few suggestions that come to mind but I am sure there are many more that I am not thinking of right off hand. Good luck! I am sure you will do fine! :)

Everyone is doing incredible so far! Keep up the good work! I made today a rest day for me as it was a long and trying day and my dd was not in the best mood after having her 15 month check up and getting her shot (thankfully she doesn't need any more shots until she starts school!!! :cheer2: ) Add to that a dh that had surgery last week and has needed lots of help lately and I decided that a rest day for me was in order! I will be sure to get my work out in tomorrow though and I have done well the rest of the month so far so today didn't set me back any thankfully. Again, you all are doing great and it is helping me feel motivated, so thanks! :)

If I can get my butt out on my bike today that will be even better.

Tasha+Scott-thanks for the suggestions! I just started a walk-run plan on the treadmill and that's going pretty well. I would need to go to a park or something to do that because our road is very busy after work and it's dark before work. The trick is shifting my AM workout to a PM workout. I've been getting up and hitting the pool or the treadmill at 5:30 for almost 10 years, minus illness and WDW vacations of course! It's really easy to rationalize taking a week off, which is why I made the pledge. I'm hoping that will keep me going through the shut down week.

As of this afternoon 315/1000. I played tennis with my 12 yr old yesterday. I'm on to him. HIs strategy is to make me run around chasing the ball for the first 20-30 minutes, then he gets serious after Mom is exhausted. Well, no more! I make him chase his own wayward shots now!

I am now at 570/2000.

A bit behind where I need to be, but at least I am here talking about it. Hopefully I will stay motivated this month and not give in to the "all or nothing" routine that has done me in over the last few months. I really need to get back on a regular, sensible schedule instead of going all out one day then doing nothing at all for the next few days. That does not work well for me at all!

I finally am getting a chance to count my minutes. I am at 280/1000. A little behind but getting there. Will have a lot of time walkig when I get to DW in two weeks.

Alright, going to get all caught up! These last 4 days had only 3 with exercise, so I am adding 120 minutes to bring me to 310/800! I am going to Detroit again this morning (after I sleep a bit, just got home from work) and will do lots of walking around Great Lakes Crossings, and at my mom's.

Have a great week end all!

Ok, I'm in need of some serious accountability! Suddenly our vacation is only 38 days away (yahoooooooooo! ) but I'm still not where I want to be weight-wise. It all starts with regular exercise!

So, my goal for what is left of August is 570 minutes. That's 30 minutes/day starting tomorrow.

Wish me luck! Now I'm off to find my W.I.S.H. journal and try to catch up on that!

P.S. when you go to an amusement park how do you count the walking? I don't have a perdomer, yet. I figure if we go for 7-8 hours I could count 2 for walking? :confused3

Friday I did 35 minutes of Biggest Loser Intense Cardio, followed by 25 minutes of Pilates. We went camping this weekend and on Saturday we took a 70 minute hike (I'm just going to count 30 minutes of that since it was a lot of stop-n-go with the kids) and took the dog for a 30 minute walk.

Back from vacation and my foot handled all the walking wonderfully!!! I am so much more relaxed about walking around Disney now!

I was able to get in time on the tread mill at the hotel so I got in an hour each day :)

I did count a total of 40 minute for the park and the mall since there was a LOT of walking. The Mall of America is HUGE!!! I think I walked about 10 miles in there :)

My total is up to 360 now!

Hope everyone is going good!!!

This has been a really rough month so far, so I'm off to a slow start. I'm at 417/1500 as of today. I now need 64 min/day to make it. That's doable....maybe!! I will try!!
