We are doing our 1st cruise next year ,not sure on which room category to select. We are leaning towards a Cat 6, any recommendations? Thanks!

We have sailed in a Cat 6 and a Cat 8. Only difference was the verandah (and the price). Although it was nice (first 2 cruises with verandah), when we cruised the third time in a Cat 8, we found we didn't miss the verandah that much at all.

However, in a few weeks we are sailing in a Cat 3, so I may get spoiled all over again!

How many people and is it a 3/4/7 day cruise.

If you have four plus people and its a 7 day plus cruise i would say Cat 5 or 4, if a 3/4 day one you can go for a lower cat say inside etc as you really will not be able to enjoy the verandah.

Do the Cat 8 rooms have the oversized port hole window?

On a short trip go for the cheaper staerooms you will not be in the staterooms a lot maybe sleep and thats it, you still get all of the services, the higher CATs are better on longer trips.

Yes all the Cat 8's have the large porthole. It is the Cat 9's that is split. The Cat 9's on the deck 2 have the large porthole, the Cat 9's on deck 1 have two small portholes.

To the OP - since it is just two of you try looking at the Cat 7's. These are the Navigator Verandahs in the aft of the ship. They are cheaper than the regular verandahs but still give you the space of a verandah. They are also a little cozier and private than a regular verandah (IMHO).

We loved our cat 6. We are doing an inside cabin this time (just DH and I) and then on our Nov cruise we booked our same cat 6 room with DS. We love the verandah, but we went way cheap on this upcoming cruise, but hey we did get an upgrade this time around!! :cool1:
