Here is a place for us to just chat about this and that. It can be about the exchange that you had recieved, everyday life, what you are cooking for dinner.....just a way for all of us EXCHANGERS to get to know each other better. :thumbsup2

So what are you up to today?

Hi everyone! We saw the same movie today Nancy! It was cute - but no great piece of work - perfect for a rainy afternoon, though.
Patsy, I think of you every day and wonder if today will be the day!

Pretty much. It was quite a job.
Now getting ready to help DD move to the other side of the state :(
Next weekend we load the truck. I will be kitty sitting while they drive over, get into the new place and unpack the bedroom so kitty won't be too scared.
Then I get to drive over with kitty  We did get tranqualizers ;)
Stay a couple days. I get to set up the kitchen things :hyper:
And take her shopping ;)

How is your mother doing, Heidi?

It was fun....I like mindless entertainment :rotfl:
I saw it in a theater with 4 men...and me. Interesting to hear the parts they laughed at ;)

We were going to go see Lady in the Water, but hadn't heard much good about it, so skipped it for now.
Anyone see it yet?

Guess you all can tell, I have nothing to do right now :teeth:

I sent the email out on the 18th! I emailed 2 days later and no response to either. PM me if you want their username. Maybe you know something about them I don't? They may be one of those people who sent their exchanges a week late (or at worst not at all).

Have you seen POTC2 yet?

It is by far my favorite movie this year. I still think the first one is the best though and I will go and see the 3rd opening day!

Meriweather
07-22-2006, 10:11 PM
I liked the first best also, but did enjoy the second. I was there opening morning...first show. Couldn't do the midnight one
I have seen it twice so far and will go again, I am sure.

I will PM you.

Leslie.....we almost hit 100 too....and that very rarely happens around here. And Aug. is our hottest month, so who knows what that will hold for us.
I am headed to eastern WA soon....and right now they are over 100....I don't do heat well anymore, so hope it cools off some before then.

Nancy, glad to hear you are settled after all that company.

Where is your daughter moving to? Good thing that you have tranquilizers for the kitty, pixie dust for that trip. :wizard:

Setting up her kitchen huh? right up your alley. :teeth:

Mom is doing good, she had her tattooing done for the radiation and she gets her first on 7/24. She will have treatments 5 days a week for 33 days.

Mom and Dawn are coming up tomorrow for Turkey with all the trimmings.

Nancy you could send that heat this way. Most would say no its been hot enough, but shorts, t-shirt and flip flops keeps you comfortable, and AC helps a lot.

Besides I'd take the heat over the cold and snow any day. I can't wait for our trip to get here, but can because that means we will have snow. :(

I so totally agree, Heidi! I am such a summer person that I was chilly today when it was in the high 70s and low 80s. :sunny: By the way, I "waved" last weekend when we drove to and from the DIS Meet in Allentown. Wish that you could have made it.

Hi Everyone. I'm fairly new to the exchanges, but I really enjoying putting a package together. I like to receive too :thumbsup2

I have four kids, five if you count my husband. A whole pack of dogs, a few cats, a few birds and a goldfish. We live in Iowa and I work in our family business. We like to travel, camp, read, craft and of course Disney.

This weekend has been a blur...finished up bible school last night, went car shopping today and a birthday party. Tomorrow is church and my DH's bday. I'm hoping he'll want to go see POTC2 for his bday, lol.

I have a question for those who have organized exchanges....I know you round up elves for people who don't send their exchange, but do you ever allow them to do a exchange again? Do they ever respond when they don't send? I think organizing an exchange take a lot of dedication and patience. Kudos to all of you who do it.

I'm so sick of the heat here too. Over 100 again today and we had the most incredible thunderstorm last night. I have never seen so much lightning in all the years I've lived here.

My youngest DD is expecting a baby in October and she's really suffering in this heat. Summer can't be over soon enough for her.

My Dh was so good to me on our anniversary this past week and took me car shopping. He has known that I have had my eye on a Chrysler PT Cruiser for a long time. He took me to the dealership on Tuesday and I got to pick out the one I wanted. I got the most beautiful electric pearl blue one.

POTC2 is a GREAT GREAT GREAT Movie!! What type of exchange do you want to host? I just did 2 exchanges so I can't tell you if they let them exchange again. I don't think I would but that is me and I am not sure on the rules for that. I have one person who is not responding so...... It does take a lot of patience but it is fun!

We're all invited to Heidi's for turkey :bounce: Yummy!!

DD is moving to Spokane, about 300 miles from here. She went to college a bit farther, so we are used to it. She has been back "on this side" for 2 years. She is looking at about 2 years over there. She will go back to school next summer for a year. Housing is less over there, so they thought they would move now. She likes it hot :sunny:
Yep...it will be fun organizing her kitchen. She hasn't even seen her new apartment yet, so we'll see what I have to work with.

Glad your mother is doing well so far, Heidi. I hope the radiation isn't too bad for her.

We keep a list of nonsenders. I have had it going for several years now...and you all would be surprised at how many names are on it :(
Usually if they are nonsenders, we never hear from them again.
I have let a couple in, but they usually don't even realize theirs was never received.....a good reason to follow up on the things you send ::yes::

I live in Woodstock. You wouldn't believe the TRAFFIC! If you are driving between 4 and 7 be prepared to be delayed at least an hour depending on if there was a wreck or not. We had some big lightning bolts today! You could tell they were very close to the house. We needed the rain though.

I have been trying NOT to buy any because my stash is so huge, but when the local craft store comes out with a 40% off coupon, I have to go get a jar

I won't be around until late tomorrow....going to the zoo with my best bud (from the girlfriends trip counter :) ). We are arriving before the zoo opens to make ADR calls for Jan :hyper:

Compared to what you get Nancy.. not cold.. but cold enough.. esp when you don't have air con or central heating or anything.

There is a little rain around at the moment, and some winds blowing off the snow down south, so it's been quite chilly come late afternoon/evening.

Wow! I've got alot of reading to do!
DH is usually travelling all week, so it's easy for me to spend some time here after the boys are in bed. I'll get started on it tomorrow.

The sun's out here, too, Vannigirl! We've even got the windows open--I really hate AC, so I'm loving it!

I did see something on this page about spiders...you don't want to know what's in our garage most days! DH 10 will probably end up being an entomologist (only know this $10 word because I live with him! :goodvibes ) ....LOVES bugs! The catarpillars are cool, but the praying mantis that he keeps in a bug cage as a pet.....ugh! :crazy2:

I just found out that my friend had her baby girl this morning, so we might go and visit her. It's an hour drive to and an hour back, so hopefully my husband will decide to come along with us.

So, for all of you who visit friends and family at the hospital after giving birth, having an operation.....do you bring them something? If so what? I also bring a gift, flowers.... but have heard some interesting things before so just wondering what everyone here does.

Leslie, enjoy your pork loin. We grilled yesterday and this morning my fingers were swollen again. My husband thinks it is from the seasoning that I put on the steak :(.

Congrats to her!
I bring them baby gifts, a small cake, and flowers if they had a baby. After someone gets out of the hospital for anything. I usually bring them dinner a couple nights or order them a pizza and have it delivered to them.

I hope you feel better soon! :sunny:

kimmikayb-what are you making to take along with you?

I took a double batch potato casserole with corn flake topping....you know that one? Yum, it's always a hit. And I made three meatloafs because this year our church wasn't providing meat. I was worried about it, but it turned out fine...lots of great food. I love potlucks. The kids behaved well and sang beautifully. It's my DH's bday so he's taking a nap now because that's what he wanted to do. I'm going to clean house....bible school week keeps me away from my regular chores and then he and I are going out without kids to this great local restaurant....Johnny's Italian Steak House YUM!! Then we'll either catch a movie or play mini golf.

Patsy, I was preeclampsic with both pregnancies - NO SALT AT ALL - even the bottoms of my feet were swollen! It was really bad the last couple of weeks. Mrs. Dash has a salt free seasoning that's pretty good. Other than the swelling, how are you feeling?

It does sound good. Can you post the recipe??

kimmikayb
07-23-2006, 05:31 PM
Potato Casserole...very easy.

(1) 2 lb bag of hashbrowns (the chunks, not the shredded)
(1) 8 oz sour cream (get light if you want to cut down on calories/fat)
(1) Can Cream of chicken or mushroom soup, depending on your taste (ditto for the reduced fat)
(1) bag of shredded cheese, I use mild cheddar or cheddar jack depending on how I feel
(1) chopped onion

Mix this all together, throw in a Pam sprayed casserole dish. Sometimes I add garlic powder to it, all depends on who I'm kissing ;) Salt and pepper lightly. I also like to microwave the bag of hashbrowns first to thaw them out and even get them slightly hot. I think it cooks faster that way.

Crushed up a cup or so of cornflakes, pour a stick of melted butter on those and toss together. Sprinkle this on top of the potatoes. Bake at 375 for about 45 minutes, uncovered. This is a GREAT potluck dish. I never go home with any.

I was getting my mugs off eBay, but people are starting to bid high on them, plus shipping. Most times they are going for more than what a new one would cost you at WDW.

Sounds really nice! We stayed at Timberland Resort Campground in Sturgeon Bay but we wished we would have gone further north. I couldn't get over the beauty of everything and to think we've lived only 5 hours away. We were there the 2nd week of June and there were very few people there. But the lake water temp was only 59! I would love to talk my DH into tenting just one night but like you, we are into roughing it too much. We have 38' trailer we tow and have 2 tvs, dvd, garden tub, lol....all the luxeries. We loved the fish boils, but it scared my little kids. Is your campground public or all permanent sites?

Hi everyone:
My name is Juli and I love doing exchanges but my work schedule and lack of funds get in my way A lot.
I Enjoy scrapbooking, BAB, B+BW and Love shopping at Yc store for others even though I hate candles. When I do an exchange I always feel like such a slacker.

Well Hope you all stay cool or warm today.

Where we stay is half permanat sites and half permanent. But the permanent ones are all filled up. He just keeps adding more every year. We love it there. Thanks to everyone for wishing me a happy Anniversary. Maybe I can talk my dh into going on a disney cruise this spring. I think 30 years deserves a trip. I'll even bring him with me! :rotfl:

Hi Nancy and everyone else.
I had a long day yesterday and am still tired, but have things that need to get done.

Is there any upcoming exchanges that you are waiting to participate in?
I am looking forward to the notecard/stationary exchange, and also to the Christmas stocking and present exchange.

I dropped it when the school supply started, but if there is enough interest, I will do one anyway.

DH is published also ...and also not in anything we would read (well, maybe some would).

The stationery/office supply is going to be a $10 exchange....and I would recommend using a flat rate box...that stuff is HEAVY. I can't see having a $5 exchange when postage will most likey be at least the $8.10 of a flat rate.
It will go on tomorrow....there is enough interest....hope to see some of you join in.

Yep, I've been ignoring the dis board. I was at disney Aug 16-20, then at Jobbie camp last Thurs- this past Sunday. Then I went to the Minnesota state fair. Worked this week. I leave in the morning for the POP again with my brother. I am bringing a wheel chair to push him around because he has such bad lungs. We are staying til Tues morning and are planning to go to all the parks. Wish me luck taking him everywhere. Free dining again. I'm definately going to need to get back to weight watchers after the last 2 weeks. I have my DIS pin to bring with me that you made me. I'm excited!

This weekend DH and I have a choice between attending the State Fair (which we have never seen after living here in CO for just over 7 years- it is located two hours away from us, an easy drive but boring!) or visiting another town with a restaurant we have heard good things about...not sure which will win in the end.

On a side note, I really hope I get my job offer soon- they seem to be having issues getting a hold of my past work references  . I want a paycheck again so I can join the exchanges again! I was so bummed about having to force myself to not join the Disney only and the Christmas in July exchanges :guilty:

I would choose the State Fair, since it won't be around too long and then go to the restaurant another time.
Good luck with getting a job offer soon.
The Christmas present exchange and the Christmas stocking exchange will be starting in Nov., so hopefully by that time you will be able to join us. :)

Nancy, as for weekend plans, yes we are going to have my daughter's birthday party on Sunday, so that means I will be busy doing some last minute shopping, cleaning, cooking, baking....and hopefully we will be able to get some rest on Monday and just grill some burgers and sides.

Hi guys! Figured I would stop in here while I had a minute to sit down.

My name is Alissa and I am a fairly new exchanger. We just did our 4th one and have been having alot of fun with it!

I have DS Andrew who is starting Kindergarten on Tuesday and DD Ellie who is almost 17 months old and into everything that her Big Brother does.

As for me, I am in the middle of opening a new business in 10 days and have been trying to get everything in order for that so I am ready for it.

And for weekend plans, well it looks like what is left of Hurricane Ernesto is coming to the area tomorrow and they are expecting flooding around here Ugh! Kind of messes up our weekend plans to go swimming and apple picking - I think the orchards will be too muddy to try to walk around them.

Aloha exchangers! I've been thinking about hosting my first exchange before Halloween and was looking for some tips and basic things I need to know. I also have some questions, these are pretty much all about your personal exchanges:
How many people do most exchanges have?
How long should sign-ups usually last?
When people sign up, what information must you know?
How long does it usually take to match up people once sign-ups are done?

Anywhere from 3 people to LOTs...I think they most has been 250 (but that was the OE)
Sign-ups usually 7-10 days is enough...especially with this board.
You must know name, address and e-mail is helpful in case PM boxes are full or the DIS goes through some of the strange things it has in the past
Then depending on the exchange there might be some other things....if food, any allergies. If decorations or such....themes or colors
Match ups are usually done by random draw and only take as long as it takes for you to write down names and then draw them....mine usually go out within a few hours.
Hope that helps....any more questions, just ask.
have any idea about what kind of exchange you might be doing?

I posted this on the Chicago thread this morning, but I thought everyone here might like to know.

My son Eric and Amy's DH were in an accident outside of Springfield Missouri late last night. They are movers and drive an 18 foot truck. I guess they went off the road and the truck went down a 20 foot embankment and flipped a couple of times. Amy got a call around 1 am this morning.

Eric was sleeping and leaning over by Tim who was driving. He woke up when the windshield broke. His right leg went out the passenger window and was trapped under the truck because the truck landed on the passenger side.

I talked to a paramedic who was transporting Tim to the hospital which was almost an hour away and he said Eric was concious and alert and they were working on getting him out.

About 3 am the chaplain from the hospital called me to tell me Eric was at the hospital and going for tests and x-rays bet seemed fine except for his leg and lots of cuts.

Tim fractured some ribs and alot of pain in his back. He was released this morning but not Eric yet.

I talked to Eric this morning and it took almost 2 hours to get him out with the jaws of life then putting air bags under the cab. They flew him to the hospital in Springfield MO which took 18 minutes.

He is in alot of pain and have been giving him morphine since he was trapped. Right now I am waiting to talk to the Doctor.

It's 518 miles and 8 hours away.

Updated at 8 pm.

They must have had a Guardian Angel I am sure it was my mom

Eric is doing good, they cleaned him up and gave him some sweats, since they had to cut his pants off. I just talked to him and he is going to sleep for the night. They took him off the morphine and just giving him pills now. He also ate lunch and dinner.

Amy is fine, she has someone with her and they are getting everything ready for Tim, I called her about an hour ago and she is finally sleeping.

Tim was picked up by his sister and is on his way home DH and I are leaving about 1am to go get Eric, he is being released at noon tomorrow. I am going to get ready and get some sleep. We will drive carefully :thumbsup2

I've loved many things I've received. What comes immediately to mind are these 2 beautiful white Christmas serving plates trimmed in silver that I got last year in a Christmas decorating exchange. :)

Catching up.......

Favorite Candy - lately it has been plain hershey milk chocolate, although I am partial to apple flavored licorice - yummy!

Favorite Item from an Exchange - has to be the sandwich keeper (looks like bread shaped container for a sandwich) that we received in the School Supply Exchange. I know it's an odd choice, but we have used it almost everyday. Still new to the exchanges and having a great time!
