Working.... Though on Friday after work, I am giving my first PAID professional massage. I've been so busy working as a receptionist for the school, that I've not had a chance to go out and ply my trade. *grin* I'm hoping that my hands will help my friend heal from the heartache she's currently going thru. She lost her Father in December, and in mid January, her sister literally dropped dead on the spot. Her daughter is having difficulties dealing with this and so both of them are going to have a massage from me.

Good luck with your first gig.
I need a massage as well. My shoulders, neck, and back are hurting. Carrying Brandon all the time doesn't help since he is a big baby.
My sister is coming over tomorrow and not sure till when during the weekend, but I need to clean up and get things done around the house, and we are going out to dinner on Saturday night.

I would pay for a massage today! I've got stress!

I just got off the phone with my sister, who's been fighting breast cancer. I'm starting to get really worried about her, and since she's in Ohio I don't get to just run over and see her. :sad1:

Yes, I mean picture frames.
I'd LOVE a plush exchange.. you'd have to see my room to understand. :lmao: So right now, what would you personally choose?
1. Picture frames.
2. Disney plush.
3. Baby item.

I'd get my mom to join, but she's always busy.. but perhaps I can persuade her!

I'm about a week late, but I'd go for the plush! Did you mention charm links awhile ago? I'd love that one!

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. I hope she's fighting her battle well. Cancer hits hard. *hugs*

The massages went well, and she didn't even quibble on the price. Normally for an outcall, it would be $90 because I'm going to their house (have to drag my stuff there) but because they're my friends, I gave them a price break, $60.00 each. They LOVED the massage, both said they'd never felt so relaxed before.

Thanks, Bobbi--my sis has a dr appt tomorrow. I'm nervously waiting to hear what they say. She's only 45, so it's been tough.

We still have a frozen layer of snow/ice on the entire lawn...no chance of outside work. Patsy, is there a chance you can get a massage? We like to go to a town in West Virginia, Berkeley Springs for massages. We try to get there on one of our car trips east, with a night stop there. It's about 6 hours from here, not exactly convenient, but it's a perfect way to break up our 11 hour drive to Cape May.

So for us, it's only a once a year pleasure, but we do enjoy it.

Hi Patsy, sorry you are having a stressful day. It was raining here all day so didn't get out of the house...I'm not a winter person at all and the rain needs to go away and come back.....well next winter? ;) When it does dry up I've got some yard work to do... and my favorite part... planting some color in the garden. I also have a crazy habit of making .......all over my post.....love those .......

It's just a moment...this time will pass

Janet, what are you thinking of planting in your garden?

Mini daisies, pansies, snapdragons...I'm still thinking of other plants....I hope to go to our garden center this weekend and look around...I really want color and they have to be heat tolerant...we get days over 100 and for long periods of time...so sturdy is a must.

Those all sound nice.
I wish we could plant pansies here like I see on t.v. or in magazines. I tried planting them before and they grew, but once I transplated them to the ground, they died and the plants didn't grow big :(.

It's a new day here, and I hope everyone has a good one. I'm thrilled because it's a Tuesday and there's not any ice or snow in the forecast. I teach Tuesday afternoons and evenings, and it's been a tough winter quarter, 2 Tuesdays have been cancelled due to weather.

Have a good day everyone! :goodvibes

PS. Snapdragons are my favorite annual! What's yours?

pennst8r
02-27-2007, 09:27 AM
I don't have any annuals planted, but we always plant impatients along our front walk in the spring. They end up huge and brighten up the yard.

I always say I'm going to plant tulips, and then miss the time to do it! :rotfl:

Hope your day is better today, Patsy.

I LOVE tulips. We live in a major tulip bulb producing area.
April brings our annual visit to the fields. Gorgeous!!
I have over 300 bulbs planted here also. They are starting to come up :yay:

I have someone coming today to get my new kitchen countertops ordered :woohoo: We went through the measuring and picking last fall and then decided to wait and see if DH got his promotion or not (might have been moving if he didn't). He did....so it's a-go on them now!

I am jealous of the ones with flowers, we have all kinds of wild life here to eat anything I plant. O' well its nice seeing the wild life and they are around year round eventually the flowers die.

Also the ice and snow we got Valentines day is still around and probably will be until June. :( Did I mention that we got 5" more of snow this past Sunday and now they are calling for a winter mix, or thunderstorms that could bring power outages. :headache:

Meriweather the tulips sound beautiful. I always want to plant bulbs..I always forget.
Some of the plants I would like to get for this year are sweet williams, strawflowers, johnny jump-ups violas, cupids darts, sweet peas, maybe some carnations.

Heidi, I have never lived in your kind of weather....I don't think I would do well....I don't even like it when it rains. :sad2: Maybe the snow would be fun for awhile, my DH is originally from Ohio and at times he misses the snow.

I'm looking forward to our Morning Glories on the fence. I've got Pansies on the porch in pots right now. They almost didn't make it through the "Winter Blast". I didn't think that they would do well in the shade but they are. But they do get a lot of indirect sunlight.

Check to see what exchanges are up for sign ups. Read the requirements and send in your info. to the organizer via a pm. At the ending of the sign up date, you will be given someone's info. and you will send them an exchange, and you will recieve one as well.
Look at the top of the exchange thread where there is the list of upcoming exchanges to get an idea of what is coming up....there are also exchanges that happen that are not listed, so just keep checking back from time to time to see what is going on.

bobbiwoz
02-27-2007, 10:10 PM
Scrapple is well,....I don't think you want to know...but it is pork. Around here, I think something like that is called "getta." I had some at a buffet once, I thought it was sausage patties broken up.

I could do without scrapple, but an East coast food item that we both like is Pork Roll! I always try to bring some back when I come home from NJ.

Yes, and I also love tulips!!! I put many in when we moved here 13 years ago, and they are getting fewer and fewer, and I always forget about planting some more every fall! Shucks!

From Wikipedia:
Scrapple is typically made of hog offal, such as the head, particularly the heart, liver, and other scraps, which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth. Once cooked, bones and fat are discarded, the meat is reserved, and (dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush. The meat, finely minced, is returned, and seasonings, typically sage, thyme, savory, and others, are added. The mush is cast into loaves, and allowed to cool thoroughly until gelled. The proportions and seasoning are very much a matter of the region and the cook's taste.

I wouldn't touch scrapple with a ten foot pole.

Now, I could send some Florida heat (82 today) and a crate full of oranges -- right from my trees in the backyard!

The ones here are actually crane flies--gross, and there are days when they hatch where there are just swarms of them when you walk through the grass. Our dog tries to eat them....she's not the brightest bulb in the pack.

BTW, they really don't eat mosquitoes! ;)

My DH did finally come home, and yes, he really did stop with his buddy at a bar & grill for some dinner!
Normally when the weather is nice the Springs are only 35 minutes from Parker (my town, the southernmost metro suburb) and maybe another 30 minutes into LoDo (downtown Denver proper), but when it is snowy and/or icy and rush hour to boot I can totally see it being 5 hours or more! Monument Hill is about the halfway point 'tween Springs and Parker and it is a traffic accident nightmare when it is cold and wet :scared1: .

And for the record, the mental picture of those ginormous insects really has me creeped out, but if I keep referring to them by the 747 nickname I somehow start to giggle and it isn't so bad! :rotfl:

Hello to all the DIS exchanger...just wanted to post some information that might be of help to us all...it is about using DC (delivery confirmation) with our exchanges. If you have used a DC and after 14 days the package has not arrived you can fill out a PS Form 1510 with the postoffice (this can be downloaded from their site USPS) or call 1-800-222-1811 ( number to call with issues related to domestic mail tracking) These tools can help in finding lost letters and packages and if we were good...and put our return address on our packages... it could help us get the lost package back. I hope this will be of help...

So is the weather getting better in everyones area? It is usually sunny here during the mornings, then it gets cloudy and it sometimes rains during the afternoons. I realized today that the sun has been setting later during the evenings. Tonight, at 7:00, it wasn't totally dark yet. I like being able to stay outside till a later time watching the kids play, and then coming inside for dinner.

So not something that helped me get out of bed this morning. And now they say there is snow coming. :(

It's called Bahama Bucks. They make shaved ice snowcones, smoothies and fruit cups. It's a good place for a first job. And they're closed on Sunday. My favorite snowcone is blue raspberry. It turns my lips and tongue blue! :rotfl:

Say that today was the first day of Spring. The weather outside is 80 degrees and there is a nice breeze. Everyone in your family wants to go out to enjoy a day in the park, so you decide that you will have a picnic. What food and drinks would you bring with you? Would you do any other activities while you are there-(bike riding, kite flying....)?

Pooh67_68
03-07-2007, 06:47 AM
Patsy, its hard to pretend when we got an inch of snow last night and it is still snowing this morning, but OK.

I would need a cooler instead of a basket.

Chicken Salad w/a nice thick white bread (Paula Dean recipe)
Macaroni Salad
Deviled Eggs
Iced Tea (John would want soda)
Cupcakes
I would put the chicken in a container and make the sandwiches once we got there.

I would love to give kite flying a try, its something I have never done. But other then that no, all we would do is enjoy the meal and then go for a walk.

I'll have what she's having! Sounds good. Actually, I AM having chicken salad on a thick bread today for lunch, and it will be about 74 degrees today. I just finished putting the sandwich together. And on my picnic I'd add some relaxing bike riding to the mix.

Although today I'll be inside testing -- NRT's at school. Last week were the dreaded FCAT tests. No fresh air for me until late afternoon.

I would make musubis-rice balls. My husband is not a big sandwich person, and I would make chicken and other sides to take along. And for dessert brownies, and some cut fresh fruit.

If the day was nice we would fly a kite, if not then we would play some board games.

I make a very easy chicken salad. A few of my friends and I used to celebrate each other's birthdays at this tea house for lunch. We all loved it there, and we usually always ordered the same thing -- chicken salad on a croissant. They also had an "afternoon tea" meal, which consisted of a three tiered silver server, one level filled with mini sandwiches -- cucumber, chicken salad, lobster salad. The middle level had scones and cream, and the top plate had the mini desserts. How I miss that place since it closed!

Anyhow, I tried to copy what they made. I sprinkle white meat chicken breasts (no skin or bones) with fresh ground pepper and bake them in a glass dish with some water at the bottom and cover it in foil. This sounds odd, but the chicken comes out so moist. Then I cut it up very small, mix in a handful of slivered almonds, 1 minced up slice of spanish onion (only 1 slice of a med. onion) and mayonnaise to taste. Mix it all together and refrigerate. It comes out practically identical to my tea house version!

Hmm, a picnic sounds so nice! If we were going on a picnic, we would just grab stuff that we had, no preparation at all. We'd take bread, lunchmeat and condiments. A bag or two of chips and what cookies we had on hand. And pickles! Must not forget the pickles! :rotfl:

Then for activities, we'd take a walk, fly a kite or throw a ball or frisbee. Or maybe we'd just sit and enjoy the sunshine.

Patsy, here is Paula Dean's recipe.

1 (3-pound) chicken
Salt and pepper
1 onion, quartered
2 celery stalks
1 cup chopped celery
4 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
2 teaspoons seasoning salt (suggested: Jane's mixed up Krazy salt)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon lemon-pepper seasoning
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 to 3 tablespoons chicken stock

Place the chicken along with the salt, pepper, onion, and celery stalks in a large stock pot. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer until the chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken from pot, cool, and remove skin and bones. Reserve the liquid. Dice the chicken and place in a large bowl. Add the chopped celery, eggs, seasoning salt, mayonnaise, lemon-pepper, pepper, and some reserved stock and mix well.

All this talk about picnics reminded me of the times when my sons were young, and there was a group of women in my neighborhood and we would go on picnics with the kids...on weekdays, and usually we would bring a small grill and have hot dogs.

Sometimes we would bring bikes and ride together through the paths in the woods....Those were great days...If anyone's from PA, we especially liked Tyler State Park in PA...and we were from NJ, but it's a wonderful park.

If you were to babysit 3 kids all the same age, what age would you choose, and how would you occupy your 5 hours with them?

What ages would you stay away from and why?

Pooh67_68
03-08-2007, 05:54 AM
Any age, I babysat from the time I was 9 till 18.

Baby's, well they mostly sleep, but I would have a play mobile depending on the age. (the kind that sit on the floor and they baby lays under).

Toddlers, read to them, have coloring books and crayons, puzzles, and other assorted toys.

School aged, make sure that their homework is done, first and foremost. Then we could go outside and play. Or they would be allowed one friend over as long as said friend's parents agreed and that they were told they had to follow my rules. I would make sure to have age appropriate things for them to do outside, frisbee, basketball, ect. because they would not be allowed out of the yard.

ADisneygirl

No thanks on the babysitting. I love kids, but I spend all day teaching them to read, so my two are enough for me when I get home.

i think 3 older kids are easier to watch than 3 babies, so if I had to choose an age I'd pick school age.

Kirby

If I had to babysit three kids at the same time, I'd pick six and seven year olds. We'd play board games, watch a movie, work a puzzle, maybe make cookies (if it was at my home).

Ok, I'll share the recipe that I'm making tonight. It's in the oven as I type.

Chicken and Cheese Rice Bake

1 can cream of chicken soup
1 cup water
1 cup uncooked long grain rice (I also use regular rice)
1/2 cup shredded monterey jack cheese (I also just use whatever I have, tonight it's a colby and monterey jack mix)
6 chicken breasts (I like to use thighs)
paprika
pepper

In an oblong baking dish, combine soup, water, rice, cheese and pepper. Arrange chicken bone side down on rice mixture; sprinkle paprika on top. Bake at 375 degrees for one hour or until no longer pink. Stir rice before serving.

Note: I cover it with foil because I've found that it keeps the exposed side of the chicken moist. I have also cooked it with boneless chicken. You just have to experiment to see what's best in your kitchen. I've never had to cook the chicken longer than an hour.

That sounds yummy Susan. I have never used uncooked rice in dishes before.

Here is a recipe that Shayla and I had made for our dessert tonight-

JELLO "POKE" CAKE

1 bx. yellow or white cake mix
1 (3 oz.) bx. red jello
1 (8 oz.) carton Cool Whip topping
9 x 13 baking dish
Optional flavor combination: lemon cake mix - orange or lemon jello

Bake cake according to package directions. While cake is cooling in its pan, poke holes all over with large fork. Mix jello according to package directions. Drizzle jello liquid over cake. Make sure jello penetrates all holes. Chill several hours or overnight. Frost chilled cake with whipped topping. Serve.

Pooh67_68
03-09-2007, 09:30 PM
Patsy we call that Jello cake, but we add a layer of vanilla pudding under the cool whip.

Here is my recipe...
Ultimate Potato Soup

5 large potatoes, plus 1 small, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
2/3 cup chopped onion
2(14.5 oz) can chicken broth
2 3/4 cup half & half cream
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cubes chicken bouillon
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large pot, bring potatoes, celery, and onion to a boil in the chicken broth. Cook until potatoes are tender. Drain & reserve liquid.

Combine reserved broth and cream in pot. In a bowl, combine melted butter and flour, stir into cream over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
Stir in reserved veggies, bouillon and pepper. Heat through and serve.

That sounds yummy Susan. I have never used uncooked rice in dishes before.

Between the water and the soup, the rice plumps up just as if you were doing separately. It turned out with a little more liquid left than I like last night. Next time I might bake it uncovered for a change. That way a crust forms on the rice which I like also. You just have to play around with it to find a happy medium.:)

Heidi, that potato soup sounds delicious! That's on my list of what to make soon!

bobbiwoz
03-12-2007, 05:07 PM
I very much like blue cheese dressing, and blue cheese. That's the "good" way, on the side, dipping your tines in...but that's not the way I take it...I do use less than they give me...I just like the taste too much!

We visited New Orleans last weekend, and ate at a place that served brown gravy on the french fries. That's apparently a delicacy, I tried them that way, but no thanks!

"My" potato salad, is a country potato salad from a Betty Crocker cookbook...eggs, radishes, relish, celery, celery seed and some more ingredients combine to make a yummy combo for my family!

I've enjoy reading your likes...especially the ranch dressing with pecans, blue cheese, and the cranberries. Yummy!

Hmm, my favorite childhood memory? That's a tough one, I have quite a few. When I try to come up with one, it's more like feelings or tastes. Today I had lunch with my best friend, but it was at a beach restaurant -- nothing St. Patty's related. I am half Irish, and would like to be doing something St. Patty related today.

When I was a kid we went to the St. Patrick's Day parade a few times. My mother loved to go to parades down in the city (NYC) and took us to quite a few. We stopped going as often as I got older becase my parents said there were way too many drunks there. I remember being very shocked to hear them say that to us, about drunks, and I guess that's why I remember it to this day! They said it to all 4 of us, but I was the youngest and I guess I hadn't hear that word very often.

We had corned beef and cabbage tonight for dinner and my daughter wore her St. Patricks Day green tank top that she recieved from the Kids Outfit Exchange :). But mommy did not wear green and she pinched me :rotfl: .

The only thing I remember doing as a child is being sure that I have some type of green on so that I don't get pinched.

Up until I got married I had a teddy bear, but the thing was so old I had to throw it away.

I also had a baby blanket, afghan, a crocheted doll and a toy chest. When my cousins had their children the items were given to them.

I have a stuffed dog named "Boo Boo". It was my great aunts..I got it when I was three. It's easily 100 years old. It was beat up some when I got it..hence the name! It has one regular eye and one button eye. But I love that thing!! It gets tucked in my suitcase for every vacation, it's been in my suitcase at the hospital every time I had a baby and it even went on my honeymoon!! Something about it just being with me makes me feel secure.

Wow, does that make me seem a little  ??

I had a bear named Bobby the Bear. I had gotten it from my aunty and uncle during my first Christmas. As I was growing up I used to always play with him, then the stitching by his neck started coming off and I was able to see the stuffing in him. He is now just sitting in the spare bedroom.

Today's QOTD is-
Are you familiar with Webkinz? If so, do you have any?

-(This is mine and my daughter's newest thing. I am selling some now, and may become a rep. on this island for my cousin since she had gotten the line. If you are not familiar with it...it is a stuffed animal-dog, cat, monkey, elephant....it comes with a special code that you use when you register your pet. Then you can play with it in its virtual world. You can play games, buy things, decorate your pet's room, play with other Webkinz....)

Hi Patsy!

Thanks! The appt was easy to reschedule. I just was flustered that on top of everything else (or because of it!) I completely forgot!

I'm co-chairing the boys' elementary school fundraiser. It's getting to the stressful part, and my sister is still in the hospital.

Ok--I'm done whining! :upsidedow

On the plus side of things, DH's cousins were thinking of going to WDW this fall, and I kiddingly told her to go when we're there. She booked it! :yay: The boys are so excited, because they'll have their cousins to run around with.

Well, we're doing a Walk-a-thon, with a twist. ;)
An ex elementary school principal started this fundraising company with his wife when he retired. We have a walk-a-thon, and the students ask family and friends to sponsor them--but it's a letter they help write in school that's sent out. Pure profit, minus a small % to the company this year. In future years, it will be 100%.

A nearby school the same size as ours made over $40,000 with this last fall!!!

But before this, we sold the basic fundraising catalog with candy, wrapping paper and knic-knacs. :goodvibes Our sport clubs usually sell pizza kits.

You are all so sweet--thank you.

Trying to get some normalcy (is that even a real word? :) ) back. The kids are great with this, since they've always got something going on. Some friends are making us dinner tonight.

Totally different topic:

I'm going to make my yearly attempt at this bunny cake I have a mold for. I've never gotten it to work before, and I'm a pretty good baker. It's an old metal mold--2 piece. The cake never comes out well, or if it does it breaks.

I read something about adding cream cheese to the mix, but don't remember what to take out!

Anyone have any ideas? I think I'll google...

mickeyfan2
04-05-2007, 11:33 AM
I find that you need to have enough cake mix so that the entire mold is full. I spray mine (not a bunny) with pan first. I cut a piece of cardboard larger than the mold bottom, cover it with aluminum foil and then place it on top of the slightly cooled cake. Then I turn the entire mold over and it always comes out for me.

Good luck with your bunny cake.

Alas, Patsy, I (still) don't have a digital camera. I do use Kodak's gallery, so maybe I can do something with that!

Our spring flowers like forsythia, daffodils, magnolias, hyacinths bloomed early, before this most recent frost. However, the frost has ruined most of the tulips, the dogwoods, maybe even the lilacs. It's a strange spring this year.

I've been know to grill anything and everything!! One of my favorite things to use is Italian dressing. I buy the seasoning packets (dry). I add a little oil and water - no vinegar. Then I put it in a ziploc baggie with boneless pork chops and set it in the fridge to marinate for an hour or so..could be less but at least 30 mins. Then I throw them on a hot grill, after they are all on the grill I turn the grill done to low and cook. They are so yummy!!! Even my "I hate pork" teenage daughter loves this!

Recipe: Tator-tot Casserole

1 bag of tator-tots

1/3 cup chopped onion
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
Salt and Pepper

Mix meat, onions, salt and pepper.

The kids, husband, and I are now all sick :sad2: , but hopefully that will pass soon.

Here is today's QOTD.

As a child, what was your most favorite game you liked to play?

I loved and still love to play games. I guess my favorite was playing Pinochle with the adults as a small child. By the age of 8 or 9 I could hold my own.

I enjoyed playing Monopoly and still do. But, that game just takes way too long to finish :rotfl: .

Didn't play a lot of games as a child, we spent all our time outside.

You'd be a welcome member of my extended family! Teaching them Pinochle is how we welcome members into our family!;)

If you were to create a new smile-ex. one of these :goodvibes on this board, how would it look like?

Reminder-Don't forget to change your calendars tonight since tomorrow is May 1st :).

I would make one that is a rainbow over a bridge for the posters who have lost pets. It would tie in nicely with the rainbow bridge poem that gets posted.

I would make a smilie that has the little guy spitting out his coffee all over the computer screen. I do that often while reading alot of comments.

I would make a Beauty and the Beast one since it is my favorite Disney movie.

Hey, guys! How's everyone been? Patsy, I hope that your family is much better now.

I have to brag, been away with Carol's high school band in Branson for a competition. Those kids are awesome! They are such a well behaved group. We had a great time. And brought back a 4' trophy for best band over all.
