If you were to go into a health food store, what three items would you buy?
AlexWyattMommy
09-20-2007, 06:42 AM
Pomagranent juice, calcium chews, kids vitamins.
Oh, I guess that is stuff I could find anywhere, which would explain why I don't make a special trip to the health food store.
I found my pumkin bread recipe!!
2-3/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup shortening
4 eggs
2 cups pumpkin
3-1/2 cups flour
1/2tsp baking powder
2tsp baking soda
1tsp cinnamon
1/2tsp nutmeg
1-1/2 tsp salt
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease pans
Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy. Stir in eggs & pumpkin. Blend dry ingredients seperate and add to the moist ingredients. Pour into pans and bake 40 minutes. Remove from pans & cool on a rack. DO NOT SLICE FOR 24 HOURS or put in refrige for a while. It will slice easier and not crumble.

Is there a Tinkerbell in the house? :lmao:
My daughter had recieved a postcard yesterday from Tinkerbell, and I am not sure who that fairygod sender was, so I am not sure who to thank. But, to that someone, if you read this....thank you very much. Shayla has the postcard on her bedroom door, with the rest of her Disney postcards.
Also, is anyone here familiar with the book and project Flat Stanley? I wanted to do a twist on the Flat Stanley project for Shayla. I am wanting to send the actual Flat Stanley book around with a journal, and a special friend-still to be decided on. But, I wanted that special friend to go around on an adventure and have pictures taken of him/her.
If anyone here would like to participate, and join in on our project, could you let me know.
I will compile a list of names and address onto who will next recieve Flat Stanley, so you will send Flat Stanley onto the next person below your name.
***I am not sure if there will be an international participants that want to join us, but if you would rather not send internationally, please let me know :).
Shayla is looking forward to this project.

Hey, put me down for the Stanley saga. I would love to take him on an adventure in rural Ohio. I can mail him international.
I would love Elia or Sam from last season to come cook for us. Elia because I  her flavor combos & Sam because my neighbors just found out that their little girl is diabetic Type 1 and he could help with their menu planning.

I also received a post card from a fairy godsender. Mine was from Cinderella. Thank you.....it put a smile on my face :teeth:
Patsy, I would be happy to have a "flat Stanley" variation come visit. I have had a couple come to visit in the past from DISer's children.
If you can get it organized and ready to go before 10-15, we are going on a cruise and it would be more than welcome to come along.

Thank you to those of you who are willing to help Shayla with her project. I will put together the info. and send out the packet. We are doing a twist on this project. Instead of a Flat Stanley, Shayla wanted to send out Pinky, her pink bunny. And I think we are going to be adding on a friend, so that he/she can take a trip since we have two DISers, that will be going on two great trips.
As for a Food Network Chef-it would actually be a toss up between these three-Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, and Sandra Lee. I have seen all of them make yummy things.

Hello!! I've spent the day trying to recover from vacation. Ya know I leave my home all nice and neat and in the 1 week that we've been back it has been turned upside down. Plus I've decided to pack up some of the summer clothes. I hope it's not just wishful thinking. I am so looking forward to fall!!
Any QOTD:
1. Spectro Magic
2. Soarin!
3. Pirates
4. Fun
5. Happiness
I love WDW but I think we will go someplace else next year. I just think that we'd have more fun if we missed it more. I hope that makes sense. DH thinks that the kids are getting spoiled and taking it for granted. Plus this was the first year I left not crying. I was actually glad to go. I was tired!! So maybe every other year will be better.
Thanks for letting me ramble!!! I needed that!:grouphug:

Hi Exchangers, I have decided this year that instead of having the Christmas Exchange closer towards Christmas, to have the sign ups now, sort of like a Pre-Christmas Exchange before all the stress of the holidays. Mine would be based on the Incredibles.
It would be a simulation type ride in that the car does all the moving for you.
You would be a new super hero and be testing out your powers AND your new suit. (like when the mom watches all the suites being tested) So you would get bounced around a bit and lots of different scents & hot/cold/windy stuff. It would be Wicked!

I have a question for all of you-
My daughter is in her first year of school, and I knew this was coming, but she mentioned about having to ask family and friends for money. She was talking about the Turkey Trot which is a way for her school to raise funds to help buy or upgrade equipment within their school. Then, all the children who had collected money, will be able to participate in a fun day like thing held on the field.
She was soooo excited in having to do a task, that she started asking my mom for money yesterday :lmao: . I mentioned to her that we didn't get the sign up envelope yet, and maybe it will come in the Thursday envelope tomorrow.
So, here is my question-how do you raise money for things like this? Do you go out and ask family, and friends for donations, or just donate out of your own pocket?
We will be making a donation, but Shayla would like to ask others as well, and I am for it as long as she is the one asking. A couple dollars...anything would help. I think Brandon may even donate some money to his big sister.
mommytotwo
09-26-2007, 11:09 PM
I am not that creative, but it would be something similar to the It's a Small World Ride. Something that is fun, yet something that anyone could ride. From a few weeks old to your later years.

09-27-2007, 05:45 PM
A vacation of the month would be great as long as I didn't have to fly. Maybe a dinner or tickets to the musicals or something would be good too with a chauffer included.
Patsy, fundraisers are hard. Some of them are such a joke. Does Shayla have to do something or is she just asking for money? The band Carol is in is hosting a car wash this Saturday. Their goal is to wash 250 cars and are taking pledges on the number of cars they wash, so a person can pledge a certain amount of money per car.
With Carol being in band and drill this year, we are having to be very careful not to hit the same people up too many times for fundraisers. In fact, I keep very good records on the neighborhoods that she goes to and for what. Her current drill team fundraiser is to sell eight posters of the drill team. We are going to end up buying out on this one because who wants that poster? :confused3

Patsy, they are selling them for $10. Her boss is buying one to display at Bahama Bucks to show his support for the drill team. That is real big around here. So Shayla is taking pledges, that's not too bad. I'd hit up family members first.
If I could change my screen name, I would probably change it to Susan. But Kirby is fine, it's easy.

I wanted to get more input on this situation happening with Shayla at school.
A classmate is scratching her, and today was the second time. I asked my daughter if she had done something to the child, and she said no, and that he just did that. I have seen this child before, and spoke to him once when I brought in cupcakes for my daughter's birthday, and he is the one that the teacher has to always keep an eye on.
I wrote a letter to my daughter's teacher to ask her about what happened, and even asked if maybe my daughter might have caused something for him to be that way-just so it doesn't sound as if I am blaming that child.
What should I do?
My daughter is the type of child that is on the quiet side, and would not act back. But, she does tell the teacher, and once she was going to get in trouble, until she told the teacher what was actually happening.

As a side note: I was with a group who was treated to see the new Disney movie "The Game Plan". Very cute family movie. :thumbsup2
The only preview shown was for an upcoming movie called "Enchanted". That movie is going to be a MUST SEE. :woohoo:
Have a fun time :).

Patsy ~ about the issue with your daughter being scratched/picked on: definitely inform the classroom teacher that it is unacceptable for your child to be sitting near the boy "who has to be watched". The teacher can easily move him to a desk by himself if he can't keep his hands to himself. If the behavior continues or escalates, let the administration know how you feel. We have a bullying committee in our school that tackles these types of issues because unfortunately, these issues come up frequently. You need to address it though and not chalk things up to kids being kids. Teachers here are limited in what can be done about behavior issues in their rooms until many interventions have taken place. If no one complains about the bully, the ball can't start rolling.
Now, on to your QOTD. I've missed answering them!

It's here, as is the ragweed. It's still in the 90's during the day but dropping to the 70's at night.
What clothing color do you think you match with the most, and which color would be your last choice?
My skin used to lean towards the olive tone (though I'm not sure anymore). I wear about any color I want. Do they always look good on me? :confused3 You would have to be the judge. ;) I gravitate towards blues and greens. And lean towards darker shades instead of lighter. I also prefer shades instead of the actual color, like pumpkin instead of orange, gold instead of yellow, magenta instead of red, etc. I don't like to wear solid white or black at all but don't mind those colors in a print. But I will wear black dress slacks.

I'd order some form of creme brulee. I don't often order dessert after dinner because I am too full -- usually from all the pre-dinner bread I eat! I did get to order dessert with every meal on our most recent WDW trip this past June. We were on the dining plan and it was included, so we ordered it! My favorite cookies of all time have flour, powder sugar, butter, & finely chopped pecans. Rolled into a ball is easiest, but most people make little partial moons and they are called cresent cookies. They take forever to make, because you have to roll them in the balls & then roll them a couple of times in the powder sugar before baking and once after if you want the melt in your mouth texture.
So, what is your half-baked idea??

Nancy's Chocolate Whoppers
Recipe By :Nancy VE
Serving Size : 16 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Cookies Drop
Formed
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
6 ounces semisweet chocolate
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 large eggs
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup flour
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
4 ounces walnuts -- chopped
4 ounces pecans -- coarsely chopped
Oven rack in middle of oven. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheet with foil.
Microwave both chocolates and butter in a medium bowl on high for 1 minute, then stir. Repeat at 30 seconds intervals until chocolate and butter have melted and mixture is smooth. (Or melt chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth). Let cool slightly.
In another bowl, with mixer on high speed, beat eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt and baking powder until lighter in color and bubbly, about 2 minutes. Reduce speed to low and beat in chocolate mixture (which may still be quite warm). Add flour and beat just until blended. Stir in remaining ingredients.
Drop about 2 tablespoonfuls batter per cookie, spacing about 2" apart (dough is gooey).
Don't flatten tops.
Bake 9-11 minutes, no longer. Surface will be dry, shiny and cracked, but inside will be soft.
Slide foil off cookie sheet onto countertop. Cool cookies on foil, or remove to a wire rack to cool.

Truthfully, I had only come up with "it has chocolate in it"......:rotfl: Hey..it was early and I was only starting to drink my coffee.
I make those cookies, too, but leave them in a ball--my mom called them Snow Balls, and I've seen them as Russian tea cakes I think (she was 1/2 Russian). LOVE them. I think my recipe uses walnuts, tho, not pecans.

I had penpals when I was young--it was sooo much fun. I think that's something my kids are missing out on. I had one from France, Hong Kong, England and Italy. I got closest to the one in England, and even got back in touch with her a few years ago thru email.

So QOTD: My favourite TV show? Overall Friends or the X Files (I have every episode of both on DVD!!) plus Stargate (I have all those on DVD too!!) At the moment I'm loving some reality shows such as America's next top model, Hells Kitchen, Top Chef etc.
My favourite movie is Oceans Eleven, although I loved Oceans Thirteen too.

I've missed so many questions over the last two weeks. My MIL went into the hospital and passed away last Sunday morning. The first week was mostly spent by her bedside and last week was planning her funeral. It feels strange and sad with all the family gone back to their homes.
Let's see, my encounters with the police have been for a ticket a very, very long time ago and when our house was broken into 16 years ago.
Hmmm, I would like to go to a seafood buffet. I've never been to one.
That's all I can remember off of the top of my head. No, wait a minute, I do remember one more. I make Sugar and Spice Pecans at Christmas. And I have received one of Mickeyfan's crocheted hand towels. Those are awesome!

Have you ever had an encounter with the police? If so, tell us your story ;) .
Three times in my life. First time me (17y.o) and my boyfriend were pulled over for speeding (he was driving) and I got us off by asking the officer nicely to please let us go, that we didn't know we were speeding.
Second time was for speeding too, only I was driving and I was speeding. I don't know what possessed me to go so fast, but we were all eating in the car and laughing, not paying attention to how many cars I was passing. Totally shocked me when the sirens went off and I was getting out of their way, when I noticed it was ME they were after! The officer let me off for that one too.
My husband said I was laying on the charm!
Third time was when our house was robbed and vandalized very badly. Police came to the house to take a report. I remember how surreal it all felt as the officer brought a dining room chair outside to the garage to talk to me. (one of the few pieces of furniture still fit to sit on)

I would choose a month's supply of groceries. My monthly grocery bill comes to a little more than that so $500 would do.
Or, I wouldn't mind restaurant gift cards. We don't spend $500 a month in going out to eat but I wouldn't turn it away.
Gas would be even better (edited to say that I mean gasoline:rolleyes1 ;) ).

Chain restaurant would be Macaroni Grill -- favorite thing there is the warm rosemary bread they bring before your meal! Favortie entree would be some form of pasta.
Local restaurant would be Rossi's -- favorite meal there is stuffed shells/manicotti. They make the best sauce.
Sun.-10/28-If you were to give your used car to one organization that needed it, which would you pick?
Salvation Army because they rehab them and give them to the needy.
Mon.-10/29-If you were to relive something that happened from your childhood, what would it be?
Any of my family holiday dinners because I would so love to see and hug all the relatives I miss so much who have passed on. Of course you don't think about those things as a kid so you don't appreciate Aunt Helen's odd presents, Grandma's heavy irish accent, Aunt Bessie's sloppy kisses that we used to hide from or Uncle Edward's yearly retelling of the same old stories.
