When I was reading myself, Nancy Drew...they're all still up in my dad's attic. I thought I'd give them to my DD...until they were all DSs! Maybe a GD some day.

But when I was really young, I used to beg my grandfather to read me The Elephant's Child over and over and over.....and he was a wonderful man who would.

Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown, Homer Pyle, Miss Pickeral, and many others. Was a reader, still am.

Younger Charlotte's Web, Dr, Seuss.

Ann likes Red, We were Tired of Living in a House, Tell Me a Trudy - all books I loved to have read aloud to me. I still have all of them and read them to my kids every now and then. It's funny even though my kids are 15,12, and 9 they all still love for me to read aloud. I do tend to be a bit dramatic when I read:rotfl:

The book I remember reading over and over was Black Beauty. I've always been a reader. My mom has a picture of me with a huge stack of Little Golden Books reading to my sister when she was a baby. I was only two at the time. I thought I was reading but actually I was reciting from memory. My mom says that I knew all of my books by heart by the time I was that age from her reading them to me so much.

Other favorites were The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew and Little Women off the top of my head.

Congrats of 2000 Kimba!

Been sitting here wracking my brain on the names of those books we
wore out as kids. There was a whole set of books my family had and each book had several short stories. Aesop's Fables was a favorite. I did alot of reading growing up and still do, well at times! I go through spells with it now. If I hit on something I really get in to, I won't put it down until I'm done. LOL

If you were in a speech class and had to speak to your classmates on the first day of class giving a unprepared 10 minute speech on anything, would you be able to? Are you an outgoing person? Shy..........?
And what would your speech be about?

Speech class :scared1:

I would never be in a speech class, as a matter of fact I was put into one in school and I was so petrified that the teacher moved me to a different English class.

Heck the only reason I talk with people on here is because I can hide behind my computer screen. If I ever got the chance to come face to face with anybody, I would just clam right up.

Meriweather

No speech for me either  That is a major phobia of mine....standing up in front of people. I used to be "sick" on the days of school that had oral presentations.
Definitely a shy person here (hard to believe, huh?? :rotfl: ).
I agree with Heidi, the being behind a computer screen is a benifit. Although once I know people, I am good about seeing and talking to them.
I have meet a few DISers now :)

Another shy person here. The only class I ever did bad in was Speech Class. I got so physically sick on final presentation I had to leave school and take an incomplete.
I can talk your ear off one-on-one about any subject you wish, just don't put me in front of a group.

It's been a very long time since I've been in college, but that's when I had a speech class. I'm a teacher, so the class was worth it.

The most interesting speech in that class was an informative speech about how to change a flat tire. I've never done one, but I thought it was interesting, and something I should know, and hopefully never have to use:rotfl: Thank heavens for roadside service!

I could do speech class just fine. I used to be the leader of our County's homeschooling group and I had to stand up (or sit!) in front of the group to run the meeting. I was always outgoing though. I was singing at the firehouse Christmas Parties at 5 yrs old!! Plus I was in show choir in High School where we sang and danced! I could easily talk on anything I'm passionate about or really well informed about. Actually I could probably argue anything too!!

My DD9 is just like me. Not at all shy. You know how relatives try to embarrass kids by asking them to do silly things in public? Well at a family get together my aunt (who hates that I home-school) asked her to show everybody her Irish dancing routine. So DD says "Sure!! make some room!!":rotfl:

I am an introvert, but don't have too many issues about speaking in front of others -- unless it is a topic I know nothing about.
AGES ago, I use to even teach needleart classes. But get me where I would have to teach something like auto repair, I would be reading aloud straight from a book.

Today is the first time that we will meet my daughter's teacher, see where her class is...since she is starting junior kindergarten. So today's QOTD is-

For the first day of school, did your parents do anything special for you? Do you do anything special for your kids? Or, does anyone have any special ideas on things that I could do with my daughter-keeping in mind that I do have my son, so it needs to be something sweet and simple, and done at home.

Too long ago to remember for me ;)

I think for my kids, we just took a picture of them in their new clothes heading out and I took them to school.

ADisneygirl

For my first day of school I remember my mother walking me and I also remember not wanting to stay there -- and it was only 1/2 day kindergarten! I wanted her to walk me everyday, for years. I guess I was a big baby. We lived in the city and across the street from our apt. was the side entrance to the convent and church and the walkway to the school. You could see this from our windows, so she wanted to just watch me from there, but I insisted she walk me all the way through 2nd grade.

For my kids I took their picture with their new outfit, backpack, lunch box. We had visited the classroom ahead of time and met the teacher on Meet Your Teacher Day. On the first day I walked them into their rooms and I kissed them and left. A few teary looks, more so on my part. By the end of the week they knew the way to their room so I dropped them off at the door in the car loop.

From another perspective, as an elementary teacher I can tell you I have seen quite a few first week dramas. I've seen parents crying harder then the kids. I've seen the principal trying to pry a kid off the exit door as they run after their parents. I've seen staff members chasing runners. From my experience I can tell you that the absolute worst thing you can do for your child is stand in the doorway of the classroom crying. They see you crying and know that must mean something is bad about this situation. The transition to class for them goes much smoother if you take your tears outside.

:rotfl: last night was hectic and I didn't realize till I read the QOTD and this again that I put today instead of tomorrow. So, Shayla's open house/orientation is actually tomorrow afternoon. Tonight, she is at a birthday party sleepover, and it is her first time sleeping anywhere without us, so we will see how she does. I am waiting for a phone call for me to pick her up, but we will see how it goes.
I will take a picture of her before she goes to school for her first day :). And, maybe make her a special snack for when she comes home. My friend had sent her a special gift for her since she will start school, so she will be very happy to open that present when she comes home. She will soon be a big girl :( :).

Also, I will keep signing her up for exchanges here, and when she comes home and there is an exchange waitiing for her, I'm sure she will think that she is having an extra special day :).

Trip: to Italy with Giada De Laurentis or Ireland with Michael Flatley..people who know the places I'd be visiting!! They know where the good food is!:rotfl:

Snacks at the computer: YEP!! I love gummy bears!! But I eat lots of other types of snacks too. I sometimes eat breakfast at the computer or sometimes lunch.

on another note - I just received the school books I ordered on ebay. They came in a Toasted Corn Cereal box!! Not a wrapped box a plain ol' cereal box!! The mail lady must think I'm a little loony!! I can honestly say I've NEVER seen that before!!

We had our 4 generation party at our Cape May home and neighborhood! DSis hired a professional photographer and we have a great picture of the group already up in our family room. It was our first "all 3 DGC" visit to Cape May...they're making another trip down this week, and here I am in Ohio. I actually love the fact that they love the area enough to make the trip from MA to meet with their friends!!! We bought the home 9 years ago because I missed my NJ family and friends, and now our family is even more spread out, but Cape May as a vacation destination has something for all of us to love!!!

I love seeing my family and after them, my friends came and that was the best 3 weeks of July that I ever spent!

My DMom is failing physically, and so the vacation was a great one because SHE was there. She lives in Cape May. She bought her place after we did because after living in northern NJ for so many years, Bayonne, she was ready to retire to NJ's bit of Paradise!

I usually flip around when the commercials are on. But I absolutely love this one commercial where they are playing this old 60's song - "Downtown" ~~where you can always go, downtown, when you have troubles and la la la la, you can always go downtown, it will be great when your downtown, everythings waiting for youuuu... hahahaha

It's a catchy song, and the commercial shows a girl having a bad day, a bad hair day, breaking her heel and hobbling along before getting scooped up and made over to the tune of that song. Now ask me what the commercial is for? I have no idea! :rotfl:

I used to subscribe to People mag for years, but no longer get it.

I would get it and read it, then my sister would look at it, follwed by my mom and an aunt, then my sister would take it with her to work and a few girls there would look at it, then it got thrown away.

I wouldn't want a mag subscription now. John gets a gaming mag.

Well, when is your birthday Patsy? We could tell you what your birthstone is?:)

We currently receive Consumer Report. We got it last year because of a fundraiser Carol did for the band. We may do Consumer Report's Health magazine. Carol gets Justine and Girl's Life at the moment. I think that she is going to drop Justine when her subscription runs out.

Happy Birthday to you DS Nancy!

If I were to have to choose, I'd pick chocolate cake and vanilla icing. I'm not a big ice cream eater. I like a scoop of lime sherbet on a sugar cone or a coke float. A vanilla milkshake is good too. I really prefer my cake without icing, sometimes with a little whipped cream but not very often.

Patsy, your classic birthstone is a ruby and your modern one is turquoise or zircon. Your flower is holly. (at least that's what's in my phone book :) )

I love fall colors and it was always my favorite season up north. I'll set up my dining room in the fall colors. I'll put out my runner, my napkins, placemats, etc. I will hang a fall wreath on the front door too, even though it will be in the 90's here still! I can dream of fall!

As for decorating for fall. I have some fall decorations that I put outside of the house. Some of you may remember that last year we had the major earthquake and most of my Fall/Halloween Yankee Candle decorations broke. I was able to save a couple, and a nice exchanger here, you know who you are ;), had sent me two pieces to add to my collection. Those will go out, and I bought a new Mickey Mouse fall decoration for in the house that I can't wait to put out. Oh, and my large fall and Halloween garden flags :).

08-09-2007, 02:32 AM
Ok, I am about to do some major catching up..lol Things have been so busy I have not been able to get on to post much.

Patsy, so glad that Shayla enjoyed her first day of school! How awesome!!

If you were in a speech class and had to speak to your classmates on the first day of class giving a unprepared 10 minute speech on anything, would you be able to? Are you an outgoing person? Shy..........?
And what would your speech be about?

No way, no how! I have social phobia when it comes to anything like that. Back in school I, for the most part would just take a 0 over having to speak in front of the class. It just made me so nervous. I am better now but still not something I would want to do.

If you were to go on an out of country trip, and you could take just one celebrity with you, who would that celebrity be, and which country would you choose?

I would go to England... Hmm..and I would want..gosh I don't know who I would want with me.. Hugh Laurie, Capt Jack himself..lol or Angelina Jolie. I think I would enjoy being able to get to know any of them.

For the first day of school, did your parents do anything special for you? Do you do anything special for your kids? Or, does anyone have any special ideas on things that I could do with my daughter-keeping in mind that I do have my son, so it needs to be something sweet and simple, and done at home.

Ok, I don't really recall anything special about the first day of school. I am not sure what I will do for my boys other than take pics of them all ready to go and maybe going out to eat that night.

Do you usually snack while you are on the computer? What are you favorite snacks?

I have been on this diet since January and have done so well with it that I try not to ruin it by snacking a lot. I do sometimes snack on some chips or cereal while on the computer though.

Here is todays QOTD-
What did you enjoy the most about the month of July?

.

July?,, Hmmm.. I would say picking up my photography business some would be one of my big things.

Are you excited for High School Musical 2? Did you watch the first one?

I don't care a thing about it to be honest. I don't even know what it is about. :rotfl:

What current commercial really catches your attention and why?

My faves are the Petsmart BOBO one since we have dachshunds and the one in the commercial looks like one of mine. I love it. I tear up everytime I see it.

My other faves are any of the Cow ones for California Cheese. Those are so bright and cheerful. I love them!!

What is your birthstone, and do you have any jewelry or other items with your stone?

Mine is a diamond. I have my wedding ring and another band with them. I am not much of a diamond person though to be honest.

Do you recieve any magazine subscriptions? If you were to recieve a new one, or one that you used to subscribe to, which would it be?

I get a few baby ones and photography ones. If I were to get a new one I would love to get another photography one..

If you were to recieve an ice cream cake, what cake and ice cream combination would you pick?

I can not be thinking about that stuff right now..haha

If you were to have had the chance to say just one thing to Walt Disney before he died, what would it be?

Thank you for sure!

Next month will be the start of Fall, so what type of decorations do you have, or will you be buying? ....Yankee Candle has some really cute candle accessories, and some scents that sound really yummy.

I have come to LOVE LOVE LOVE fall. I love fall colors, fall smells, fall decorations and the general feel of fall. I decorate my back sliding door with clings that I love and put pumpkins and such around the house as well. I also hang up a couple of fall decorations and put a light up pumkin outside on the porch as well as a straw broom and scarecrow. I also have some yankee fall stuff and love to light up my scents. I actually got some yummy smelling pumpkin patch potpouri the other day at AC Moore that I have in my bathrooms. It smells just like pie! lol

When you go on a vacation and stay at a hotel, what are some of the amenities that you look for?

Indoor pool, jacuzzi, cont. breakfast, etc...

Well, I am caught up for now. Let me see if I can stay that way! lol :)

When you go on a vacation and stay at a hotel, what are some of the amenities that you look for?

Patsy, we bought her a car a couple of weeks ago, a 2005 Dodge Neon. She's been driving my mini van since she received her beginner's license in January so she's a fairly good driver. But she's a teenager so........

I've been busy volunteering up at school with the band this week so I'm behind on the questions.

I'd thank Walt Disney for the magic he's brought into our lives.

I don't decorate a lot but do put out a table runner and a couple of decorations on my bureau in the entry way. I also put out a Fall wreath on the front door.

I like a clean hotel, one that not only looks clean but feels clean when you walk in. There is a difference. I like to stay in a suite if I can. A good breakfast area and a good selection of breakfast food to eat. Location, location, location.

I'm glad to hear Shayla had a good first day. It makes all the difference in the world.

Hope your daughter has fun driving and gets into on accidents or gets no tickets. I see drivers these days, not only younger kids, but adults and elderly people that are so reckless and rude  :headache: . No matter if you are a good driver, you never know who else is on the road.

As for a hotel-somewhere that is clean and safe, a refrigerator in the room for baby's bottles, a place that is kid friendly.

*A brand new house with two bedrooms, a full bathroom, one car garage, and a small patio.

Or

Both houses would not be decorated, so how would you decorate them?

Luckily, the hurricane has now been down graded to a tropical storm.

As for the QOTD-I wanted to either be a cashier or teacher.

Amanda-Today seems like a regular day since we already celebrated Brandon's birthday. We had a party at our house with around 80 people. We had a pinata, birthday cake, games, goodie bags.....and LOTS of food. I wanted to have the party while my SS was still here visiting with us, and before Shayla started school.
I am not sure on Brandon's height, but he weighs 25 pounds, so he is a big boy. We have his next doctors appointment in a week and a half :( more shots :(.

Ugh, I know the feeling Patsy! I will be right there with you! I hate seeing Landon get shots. Hopefully Brandon will do well with them. I remember you talking abou the party! That sounded like so much fun. We are going to have a small one for Landon this Sunday.

Thank you to all who had wished Brandon a happy birthday. Since Brandon's birthday is now over, it is time for me to think of Shaylas. I am going to bring in cupcakes to her class, and is having trouble finding those edible sugar decorations online at a resonable price and resonable shipping price. And, we don't have stores like that in my area that carries them :(. So todays QOTD is-

Do you have alot stores in your area that carries things that you need, or do you look online for the products? What items do you have a hard time finding in your area that you have found online?

kimbac3

I live in a rural area too. I can drive about 35 mins and get what I want but I hate shopping!! It's always crowded at my local stores. I prefer to shop online.

I wanted to be a teacher until high school then I wanted to be a lawyer or a recording engineer. Well I homeschool my kids so I am a teacher:teacher: , and having 3 kids home all day I'm often a lawyer/Judge too!! Along with a nurse and a chef and well -you all know!!

I gave up the recording engineer idea when I saw the math they had to do:eek: :confused3 :headache: :rotfl:

I used to hate the shots thing when my kids were little. My DS had a horrible reaction to a shot (who knows which-they gave him 3 at once!) when he was 3. He hasn't had any since and neither has my youngest DD. The Doc and I felt the reaction was too severe to chance it. He suggested waiting until they were in their teens. I don't mean to scare anyone..just saying what happened to me and mine.

I haven't been on much this past week. My brother in law and his wife decide to throw a "last minute" 25 Anniversary party for my in-laws. And hey by the way can you get a cake and bring desserts? To top it off they are making it a surprise party. My MIL HATES surprise parties...especially when they are at HER house!! She's gonna flip!! She's not the best of housekeepers and while "the kids" are used to it extended family and work friends aren't. She's going to be so embarrassed. I hoping to get there early to tidy up a bit for her.
It should be interesting!!

Patsy, you must have snuck that one in while I was typing!!:rotfl:

I've never been on an airplane before. We drive to Florida. We drove to Arizona back in 2001 (pre-911). It just seems so expensive to fly 5 people, plus DS refuses to fly. He's too afraid. Actually I probably would only fly if I HAD too. Like if I was going to Ireland, Scotland, Italy or Germany.

It is a pie made in Amish country. It has molasses in it. It is extremely sweet. Many flock to Amish country just to eat the pie.

It gets is name from the flies that are attracted to it. So the cook is always shoeing them away. The Amish have a great sense of humor!!!;)

OK, I am up unusually late tonight -- or should I say morning. I woke up -- got frightened by what sounded like gunfire off in the distance and now a helicoptor is flying back and forth overhead.

Anyhow, to take my mind off it I'll answer today's question. I believe I must write out over 50 cards, but I don't mail that many. I give cards out to friends at work that don't require a stamp. I probably mail out 20 or so, unless I am in an exchange -- then its more!

I'm always paranoid when I'm in the ocean...anything that touches my legs when I can't see what it is scares the poo out of me! And DH and DSs found a baby shark on the beach this summer!

I'd probably be afraid of snakes or spiders in the jungle.

Hi all!

Let's see.....

The last time I flew was in 1996. I put the headphones on, turned slighty sideways in my seat and tried to doze the whole way. I don't like to fly! And I have to decide pretty quickly whether or not I am going to chaperone on the band's next trip in March. They're playing in Carnegie Hall and I'm not sure if I want to fly to New York or not.

I prefer peach cobbler, then apple pie.

I usually send out 50 - 100 cards, including friends on the DIS. Last year I sent out Christmas letters so I didn't send as many cards.

I've never gotten up in the middle of the night to eat anything but I have gotten up to get a drink of water.

I would probably be afraid of an eel or sea snake. I don't swim in the ocean if I can help it though.

I would probably be more afraid of a snake or spider or something of that sort that lives in the jungle than an animal.

That's a good one!! I'd like to be able to move things just by thinking. With the chronic foot and leg pain I have, just walking to the sink is a chore. Sure would be nice to "think" the dishes into the sink!!:rotfl2:

Hope we get to run into you at Disney!! We're leaving at 3am Friday. I can't believe I'm not still in bed getting in some extra sleep but..1. I'm suffering through a stomach bug (at least that's what I hope it is!) and 2. I'M TOO EXCITED TO SLEEP!!!!:yay: :dance3:

By the way I voted for your adorable little boy. So cute!!

Kimba

Aww, I hope you get to feeling better.

I will have that too excited to sleep bug tomorrow night I am sure..lol Heck, I am all excited now.

We must run into one another at some point being at the same resort and all. I need to find a lgmh to hang on my camera bag. Look for a couple with red hair (me) brown hair (dh) and a little blondie (ds). ;)

Thank you so much for the vote too. I really appreciate that. We will be gone when the contest ends so I am praying the votes will help him stay in first but I know people get others to go in and vote at the last minute to make their kids win. Ah, well, worth a shot though.

Hi All!! I'm Back!! Sure has been quiet on this thread!!

We had a great time. It rained alot though, and we came back to a dead hot water heater!! DH is under the house as I type trying to install the new one! I've been doing laundry since last night (cold water!):laundy: But if I don't start it now it will get worse.

I'm going to post a trip report soon. Well as soon as I get life back to normal!!

Some highlights:
The red Power Ranger at the MGM parade. DS had a John Cena hat on (WWE wrestler- has a "move" called "you can't see me" he waves his hand in front of his face and says it.) Anyway. We were sitting there, he came over shook my hand ( two handed- nice gesture:) ) and then my DDs hands. He looks at DS..steps back and squats down. I'm thinking he's going to do some Power Ranger move. He looks right at DS and does the "you can't see me"! We died laughing. DS had been hiding in behind his sisters because he didn't want anyone to see him. So how ironic was that!!

DH's birthday at Coral Reef

Mickey at MNSSHP. I got out of my wheelchair to get a family photo with him and Minnie. After the photo, Mickey takes my arm, waves DH out of the way and escorts me to my chair. It was so sweet and I loved it. After we left the room my oldest DD said "Awe mom, that was so sweet I'm gonna cry!!"

The lizard in the room. Ok, we were staying at Port Orleans Riverside. My DDs were coming back from getting ice. The door opens..I hear a commotion. "There's a lizard!! It's coming in the room!!"
"IT'S IN THE ROOM!!!!!!!!:scared1: :scared1: " This is followed by shrieks and screams. In comes the lizard under the bed. Their bed. So now the are running for the bathroom to hide. DH tells them it's ok. I tell DH if the lizard is not removed I will not sleep in here!! So DH and DS begin the lizard hunt. It's under the bed, it's on the wall..IT'S WALKING ACROSS THE BED!!! (insert more shrieks and screams here) So I say "I have a flashlight and a cup..will that work?" Finally Dh catches it in the cup and releases it. It was funny!:lmao: I should have video taped it!!

That's some of the highlights. We really had a great time.

Welcome back.
Sounds like a very memorable trip. Our water heater is leaking, and I found a lizard in our house two nights ago, how weird :lmao: .
I haven't been posting any QOTDs since it didn't seem like many people were checking in anymore and participating :(.
But, it is still nice to come here and chat with everyone. It seems like there are less and less people participating in the exchanges these days. For the Anything in a Flat Rate Box Exchange, we only have a few participants, but hopefully for the two :santa: Christmas ones, the numbers will pick up. I can't wait to get started on those :). I already have one person signed up for the stocking exchange.:santa:

Hi Patsy!

My kids said to tell you thank you for the postcard. They thought it was cool to come home to a postcard for them!

Did you post the sign ups for the stocking exchange?? Did I miss that one??

For what it's worth I liked the question of the day. I know I didn't always get on fast enough to post an answer sometimes, but I liked it.

My mom was here dog sitting while we were gone so we knew the hot water heater was having issues. The breaker for it kept tripping. Oh well, it's in now. We are just waiting for the water to heat up.

They are welcome :).
No, I did not yet post the exchange sign up for either of the Christmas ones. As of now, I am planning on doing that either in the middle of Oct. or at the very start of Nov. We will see how shipping goes with the other exchanges and if everyone seems to be recieving their exchanges in a timely manner. And see how my schedule goes.
I will post a QOTD since there is interest :).

I need to dig up the recipe.

Welcome back! Eww! :scared1: I am terrified of those icky lizards too. They seem to LOVE to hang around by my front door -- especially the baby ones and slip in whenever you open the door. I have taken to entering and exiting through the garage door exclusively. That way I have a lot more room to avoid them.

Do you make any special fall/Thanksgiving/Halloween treats for your family, neighbors, friends...? If so, feel free to also post your recipes. Or, do you recieve anything from anyone?

My inlaws have an annual Halloween bonfire. I always bring rice krispie treats, brownies, and my apple pie coffee cake. On halloween night instead of trick or treating we make homemade soft pretzels.

Apple Pie Coffee Cake

2 large eggs
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
¾ cup sugar
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon allspice
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups apples: peeled, cored and thinly sliced
Topping: ½ cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon mixed in small bowl (not needed but yummy!!)

*Preheat oven to 375 degrees (350 if using Pyrex or dark finish plate). *Grease 10 inch pie plate. *In medium bowl combine the eggs, oil, vanilla and sugar. *Beat with wooden spoon until thick (about 1 minute). * Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and salt. *Beat vigorously until mixture has a crumbly consistency about 1 minute. *Fold in the apples until evenly coated. And batter becomes moist and smooth. There will be LOTS of apples held together by a stiff batter. (There will look like there is not enough batter as compared to the apples..There is. Don’t worry!)
*Scrape into prepared pan into even layer. *Sprinkle with topping. (We like it thick here!) * Bake on center rack for 30 to 40 minutes until center is firmed when pressed. *Cake top and bottom will be a deep brown. *Apples should be tender when knife pierced. *Remove. Allow to cool at least one hour on folded tea/dish towel. *Serve warm or room temperature. *Cut into wedges.

Amish Soft Pretzels
YIELDS 12 PRETZELS

1 ½ cups warm water ¼ cup baking soda
2 packages granulated yeast 1 cup cool water
½ tsp. salt shortening
4 ½ cups flour Salt (prefer Kosher or coarse)

1. Measure 1 ½ cups of water into a large mixing bowl. Use warm water from the faucet. Run the water over your wrist. When it feels quite warm, it is warm enough to make the yeast work. If you prefer, use a thermometer. When the water reaches between 110-115 degrees it’s the right temperature.
1. Stir in the two packs of yeast until it disappears.
2. Stir in the salt and up to 3 ½ cups of flour if you can.
3. Dump about ½ cup of the flour on the counter and your heads.
4. Roll the dough out of the bowl onto the flour and start to knead. When the dough gets sticky add up to ½ cup more flour.
5. When the dough is smooth and elastic and no longer sticky, put it back in the mixing bowl. Cover it with a tea towel and set it in the oven with the oven light on or sit it in a warm spot for 15 minutes.
6. Get the dough out and tear it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope shape about 8 to 10 inches long.
7. Shape into pretzels or any shape you’d like (letters, funny shapes, wreaths)
8. Put 1 cup cool water in medium sized bowl. Stir in the baking soda into the water until it is dissolved. Then, one by one soak each pretzel for about 2 minutes.
10. Grease 2 cookie sheets with shortening on a paper towel. Or use a spray like
PAM.
11. Set oven to 350 degrees
12. Place each pretzel onto the cookie sheets. Be sure not to allow them to touch. Sprinkle with coarse/kosher salt.
13. Bake for 20 minutes
14. Eat while warm!! Enjoy!!

Every Halloween, I do make a dessert for our neighbors, and family. This year, I had seen this on the Kraft website, and was thinking of making them.

Scary Pudding Cups

1 square BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate
2 cups cold milk
6 drops green food coloring
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling
8 OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, crushed

MELT chocolate in microwave as directed on package. Use a clean small paint brush to paint a monster face on the inside of each of four clear 5-oz. plastic cups with the melted chocolate. Refrigerate until ready to use.
ADD milk and food coloring to dry pudding mix in medium bowl. Beat with wire whisk 2 min. or until well blended. Immediately pour into prepared cups.
TOP with the cookie crumbs. Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. Store any leftover desserts in refrigerator.
