Ive read all the links but cannot find exactly what a fast pass is?

I understand it is a ticket you buy on top of your park hopper ticket (I have a two day one ) to access certain raides...correct?

Does it mean I go to the head of the line or what?

Its not purchased on top of your ticket- its part of your ticket. Some of the bigger rides have fast pass. You use your park ticket in a special machine to get a fast pass. It will give you a return time. It will list a one hour return window. It might be 30 minutes away or later that evening depending on the ride, how busy the park is, how late in the day you are getting. They only enforce the begining return time, not th ending. So, say it says 1:00-2:00. You can return anytime between 1 and closing. You can get a FP every two hours or after the beginging return time.

When you return there will be a fast pass return line. The regular stand by line might take an hour or more. Most FP lines are going to be under 20 minutes. Most way under that time depending on the ride.
