We have reservations at hrh week of X-Mas. Anyone ever have any luck on room upgrades at that time of year. I Don't have a great relationship with TA and thats why I asking this board first. I am wondering should I call hrh myself and see if they are running any specials or wait until we get there. If I wait till we get there do I ask when we check in? If there are any promotions will they still be available for us even if we reserved our room 6 months ago?

You can try, but the week of Christmas is quite busy. I wouldn't count on an upgrade.

Slip the guy or gal checking you in at the front desk a 20 and then politely ask for your upgrade.

Before you do this, try to find out first if the hotel is sold out. If it is, you are not getting upgraded.

I have a question. What is the 20.00 for? If there are available rooms do I pay 20.00 plus the room rate increase. Or does the 20.00 take care of everything. I'm new at this and don't travel a lot!!!

He is trying to bribe the desk clerk with the $20. It might work or they might be so insulted that you lose any chance of an upgrade.

Frankly, I suspect that Christmas week will be sold out and the you will have no chance of an upgrade, free or not. Free upgrades occur when the hotel is not full and they decide to make your vacation more special by giving you an upgraded room. If you really want the upgraded room, reserve it now (if still available) and pay for it.

I'd go with the $20 trick, frankly the desk clerk was blown away with it, guess they don't get many tips, we got concierge level, my tip is to book pool view, get free Loew's card at their web page and put $20 with card.I persoanlly think they always hold some rooms back, like a casino, so even when it's full it's never totally full. We enjoyed the concicerge level it was like being royalty for a couple of days, she even made an extra key for a sixth person in my group, we easily saved $100 over 3 days in free breakfast, happy hour, water sodas to take to park. they don not uncap/open them so you can take spares to room, we drove, we had a happy hour every evening on the way back.No it's not certain you will get upgrade but this would improve the odds....
