This will be my first trip traveling with my digital camera. Should I worry about the airport? Has anyone heard about memory being lost when going through security.

Apprecaite the help.

Your digital camera and memory cards will be perfectly safe going through the x-ray scanners. Airport X-rays have no effect on magnetic media such as memory cards, so your cameras, memory cards, PDAs, laptops, iPods, cell phones, and other electronic devices are perfectly safe going through the x-ray scanners.

However, I always pack my camera gear and laptop in a carry-on bag, because I have had horrible visions of my beloved Digital Rebel or WillPAQ (my Compaq Presario laptop) being used as a football by the baggage handlers.

I have sat in my seat and watched the handlers loading luggage into the plane, and they are not terribly gentle.

Thanks so much for the info. I am feeling less overwhelmed about our first trip to DW already. By the way love your additional information found it very helpful. Love the maps especailly. Do you know how I can get my hands on them prior to my trip?

The actual printed maps, I don't know. I only get mine at the parks or from friends who send me sets after their trips. But if you save the JPG images from my maps page, you can print them out with your photo editing program.

Just wanted to agree with WillCAD your camera and memory will do great and say that I have also watched baggage handlers and it's a scary sight! Reminds me of the time in Memphis when one tossed a bag to the other, took two steps back and tossed again, took two more steps and tossed again and so forth until the other one missed and then they laughed and switched off...terrifying! That's when I started shipping my souvenirs home!!
